It's basically a chain reaction.. That's why MBA from a great college matters as that gets you campus placement into BCG, McKinsey etc.. Once you have that stamp it helps get the next big job & then the next etc.. On other hand it's very difficult for outsiders to get into McKinsey Bain etc. even experienced guys cause those firms only prefer people with experience in similar companies!!

Tech role salary are usually very inflated. Commerce field salaries are not usually inflated because many dont provide stock options, etc. You can consider like 70-80% of CTC as base salary. So in hand will be like 1 to 1.3 LPM.

I question the ability of a MBA grad even from the best college to start on Day 1 as a mgmnt consultant in a company. To be a consultant one should know the inner workings of various depts in an Org, and in depth knowledge of individual dept process and methodologies. A consultant is one who can review the current process, identify the gaps, and recommend improvements. A fresher has NO CLUE and will take couple of years to learn before advising. Just my opinion having worked in top corporations for decades. Open to constructive comments.
