Going back to gems like this, make my heart hurt so badly. If you're young, please don't under estimate how beautiful your teenage years can be.

I just got into Coheed and Cambria with this red IV album and I'm 18 turning 19 this February. Well my older distant cousin recommended this to me, but I'm telling you that I've been so delighted with this album and really OBSESSED with this song on repeat since 2023 started (3 days). It's so nice to hear old rock stuff for me because it's just so nice to know all about different kinds of ways rock can be rock. I'm also inspired by mixing music and storytelling, not like music with weird or bland lyrics or good lyrics like poetry but awful melodies.
@eine_v2 жыл бұрын
I don't like much rock music from my generation because idk, it feels pretty pretentious or nostalgia baiting in some ways since rock has been trending the whole 2022 yet look how it's not all that creative especially how the drums usually be hiphop with 808 drums but of course there's plenty kinds of rock so I can't really put my finger to what I'm trying to say. I like beabadoobee and Pretty Sick though. I recommend you listen to their new albums, both of them respectively
@eine_v2 жыл бұрын
Sorry I just wanted to share that stuff, I don't have anybody to talk to about cool rock music and that's because there's sooo much scope for older music to explore and yet most rock nowadays are just noise. It's rare to find cool acts out here, you gotta dig since everything is all here online but you gotta be patient. I gave up and stuck to the Dirty Hit record label roster
@weeeeee3742 жыл бұрын
@einev.1373 oh mate lol I've been a metal head (and sub genres) all my life, yet I struggle with today's music alot too. A skylit drive was one of my favorites as a lil emo teenager. Same generation at this lot, and a lead singer that sounds girly, but with more of a screamo/emo sound. Wires and the concept of breathing was an album that ruled my life for a while. Enjoy the journey! Some truly great stuff out there to find.

The year is 2007 and I'm 13 years old. Last christmas I was given a small black MP3 player; it had no display, about 500mb of memory and 4 hours of battery charge. I asked my older sister for some music to download since she had a job and could afford to buy CDs at the HMV in town and among the stack of plastic cases she presented me was Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV. She had bought it because she had a crush on Cladio Sanchez. My Dad didn't really like music being played too loud and my Mum thought it was rude to wear earphones around people- they weren't harsh about it or anything but I was a really shy kid absolutely terrified of getting in trouble at all so the only time I felt comfortable listening to my mp3 player was late at night in my room, lying in bed with the light off so my parents would think I was asleep. Welcome Home, Ten Speed and of course the Suffering blasting in my ears, goosebumps running up and down my arms, and fantasies of learning guitar burning in my mind I discovered the joy of really getting into music. This wasnt anything like the REM or Oasis my parents listened to or the indie rock on the radio. It felt like something that was just mine in a way, something more imprtant than music I merely liked, a sonic niche around which I could grow my nascent identity. I'm sure most people have an artist or a song that impacted them at the same age, a core memory of sound, but Coheed and Cambria is mine. I would eventually move on to Green Day and Evanescence, My Chemical Romance and Slipknot, Iron Maiden and AC/DC, and although all of those bands were and some are very important to me they were pretty much the standard progression of a kid my age who liked rock music. Coheed was my thing and I revelled in the fact that no-one else seemed to get past the song titles and album names or Sanchez's singing or the weird sci-fi concept. My little private corner of the subculture. I'm sure if it wasnt Coheed and Cambria it would've been something else but it wasn't so it isn't. This music is the bedrock foundation of all the music I listen to now, the force that shaped the lense I understand music through to this day. The man I am now at 30 years old is just a consequence of a 13 year old boy, listening to Wake Up in the middle of the night and crying.

It pains me so much that the meanings of these songs are lost on most people. Every song by this band is based on the lead singer's comic books, The Amory Wars. It follows a married couple Coheed and Cambria. It's some amazing writing, and it will definitely change how you think about the music. Devil in Jersey City is a whole new level of fucked up if you read the comics.
@jayhouse_comics3 жыл бұрын
That’s true I still haven’t read the comics because Claudio always says the Music is definitely the interpretation of the Comics but also whatever the listener feels is what it means to them as well

Thanks for this I think i need to find them

I saw a video describing how fans have taken upon themselves to get the comics turned into a tv series. Idk how far they've gotten, but that would be siiiiick

People like Dallas Dettling make me proud to be a CoCa fan. I kinda like the fact that this band is so different, its what attracts me to their music. At first i hated it too but that was when i was in middle school and didnt realize how musically genius these guys are. His voice is unique, the guitar riffs are unique, of course there are gonna be haters.....and to them I say.....congrats on using you right of free speech true fans dont care about your opinion because thats exactly what it is....your opinion. my opinion? these guys are the greatest of all time. And to me atleast, my own opinion is the only one that matters lol

I don't know WHAT THE HELL it is, but I SUDDENLY, after a good ten years since I last heard it, got a very strong urge to listen to this song today! And this is the fourth time I have listened today. It's like an itch I can't scratch.
