Not sure if Eric checks the comments section but just in case: Eric I was living in Austin when you put out the Tones album. I got to go see you play at Auditorium Shores. You played for free. Now you are giving these lessons to me for free. THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I will listen and learn. I am impressed with you as a person, a guitarist, and a songwriter. I know you hear it A LOT but Trail Of Tears has got to be one of the most heartfelt songs ever created. I am part Cherokee (Tsalagi) so it really hits home for me. Of course, it goes far beyond that. We share a common friend, her name is Marsha and she used to go over to your house. She never had anything but very nice things to say about you, so it's not just how you come across and what you do for others you don't even know, you are the real thing. I have enjoyed seeing you play live several times and it's been awesome every time. I have become a world traveler and I will play your songs for the people wherever I may roam, as in I will let them hear your music, I'm not able to play on that level. If you are curious about why I want to get better, you will most certainly get a grin from this...kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIa0apuCrr2soaM I will start with lesson one and keep going as long as you put them out there, and I will make sure to donate to the food bank. The world is a better place because of you Eric Johnson!

Not sure what venues he plays in the US, all I know is that I saw him live in the UK 4 or 5 years back and he was playing for just a few hundred people. @Fretboard Burner Dude, nobody asked for a motivational speech from some faceless guy on the internet, get off your high horse. Not everybody wants to be a guitar god, or has the inclination to practice 8 hours a day 7 days a week a la Vai, or is at a level where they don't need to "see hands". It's perfectly reasonable to ask politely to see the shapes and patterns more clearly: that's particularly important in this kind of lesson, especially for beginners who might not be able to discern between fretted and open strings so easily, and for anyone who isn't familiar with Eric's open chord voicings.

Clayton Kusaj I love holdsworth . Still look up and rewatch things I’ve dug. A new dvd/album comes out at end of month of a performance from 86 in Germany ( husband, akagi, Johnson ; drms, keys, bass , respectively). Those instructional videos of him...,he’s so humble and inspiring “ these are my graphs ...,after a while the notes of the scale or chord just kind of light up and just let your fingers dance around “. Hedges... so different so his own thing ... what a vibe. So complete. It seemed kind of a sleight... despite any hippie look or vibe , his thing seemed worthy of ECM, as opposed to the other label ... not just new age . I don’t mean to disparage the other catalog but another way of saying it- on ECM, I’ve heard stuff that I question it’s “ worth “ and Hedges’ stuff would’ve felt more deserving the kind of attention and prestige from that. It’s kind of sad. His thing is profound and ( despite some footage that looks like a respectable size crowd ), I can’t help but feel he probably didn’t get the deserved recognition . Like, really good ( but for the farmers market or wine country summer thing) . I hope he saw some recognition during his life.
@Claytone-Records4 жыл бұрын
Andres Marino, Question it’s Worth : ). I know what you mean. I have an old ECM comp from the 80’s with Hedges that I don’t ever listen to because of the new age slant, but I guess I am a snob. I prefer ECM’s jazz output and would like more of it in my collection. Preference. Thanks for letting me know about the upcoming release of the German show. Do you know who is putting it out? C,ya. P.S. I have been playing with a drummer friend for awhile and he is a longtime fan of MH. He saw him perform here in Austin a couple of times to decent crowds and this is a guitar town. Very snobbish. There is a video on KZbin of Hedges playing Aerial Boundaries at Red Rock to a size able and appreciative audience. On another note I saw Dweezil Zappa here in February with a smoking band. Nice.
