Linda's real relationship with Vince has been as his enabler. She never cared what he did (and who really knows what she's done)as long as it didn't affect her lifestyle and her social and political connections. When Vince was in trouble, Linda and Jerry McDevitt (Their fixer) would show up with an NDA and the first hush money payment in hand. Linda may have presented herself well, but she's never been any better than Vince.

I think the anecdote about Vince crying at a Linda campaign stop stemmed from his safety nets slowly winding up - Linda going into politics, Jerry McDevitt getting older and retiring, Laurenitis getting hitched to the Bellas' mom and attempting to be normal and domesticated - more so than any "losing [my] wife" type shit

@@kenthegamer Yes, Vince bought it from his dad, but the deal was made so that it was paid for by the profits that the WWF was taking in. Like Corny was saying, the profits came from deals, partnerships, etc that had been long set up McMahon Sr., so by allowing Vince Jr. to use the company profits, he was never in any real danger of actually failing to buy the company. Had he not been able to use the company’s profits, then the risk of Vince failing to make the payments on time is much greater. So Junior did not “do it all by himself”, his dad set him up to succeed. Nothing wrong with that of course, but just come out and say that dad made it so that you were able to buy the company and keep it under the family name.

Sad to say, rich people still treat thier children like they're breeding horses. They worry more about status than they do about love.
@marilynsgirl013 ай бұрын
Shane is a sympathetic figure and I felt for him. Related. And he should be proud of being a loving father, which you can sense that he is, given how he was treated by his father. I wonder if he’s gotten to the point where he no longer tries to get love from a rock. It took me a long time.

There’s loads of what ifs besides what if Vince Sr never sold to his son. Like what if Owen hart never broke Austin’s neck? What if the Montreal ScrewJob never happened? What if Chris Benoit died before he did what he did? There’s so many what ifs.

The story goes that Vince always liked Triple H and would always tell Stephanie to look for a guy like him. Eventually when they did start dating, he wanted them to stop because he was getting heat from the wrestlers because a wrestler dating the boss’s daughter would obviously cause a lot of heat. They decided not to follow that advice and Vince eventually relented and the rest is history.

Shane’s idea seemed sound, though, I’m sure he’s done fine outside of WWE. TKO is basically what Shane envisioned ~20 yrs ago. Vince’s dad gave him a sweetheart deal. Vince frames it differently but his dad was actually easier on him than he was on his kids.

Paul Heyman just said “Vince McMahon is a textbook narcissist” in a way that would sell tickets. You (Jim) defined it summarizing Heyman’s description. I believe Vince had an extremely traumatic upbringing. Here are a list of traits from Harvard’s website: a grandiose sense of self-importance a preoccupation with fantasies of success, power, beauty, or perfect love a belief that they are "special" and can only be understood by other special people a need for excessive admiration a sense of entitlement, which may include an unreasonable expectation to be treated favorably or for others to comply with their demands and expectations behavior that is exploitative and takes advantage of others to achieve their own ends a lack of empathy or an unwillingness to identify with the needs of others a tendency to be envious of others or a belief that others are envious of them arrogance, haughty behaviors, and attitudes. Sound like anyone we’ve heard of?

Something else related to that build was the pre-taped interview Stephanie did, there were reports back then that people were leaving their seats when that aired in the arena. Also regarding the match, they had to pay a fine to let it happen because the PPV was in Baltimore and the Maryland State Athletic Commission are against Intergender matches (same reason WCW changed the mixed tag match at Great American Bash 91).
