I went to Japan in 2018, at an arcade in Tokyo one of the attendants (who was probably between 25-30 years old) was talking to me about wrestling because I was wearing a Bullet Club t-shirt. He told me the young bucks are jabroni jobbers basically which I found hilarious cause thats how they always came across to me when I was watching NJPW, yet for some reason in the west people thought they were over lmao. Good to hear Brian's heard the same thing from a Japanese wrestling historian.

@@brianmilici3473 I dont know if its changed or not cause I dont keep up with IWC anymore, but it was quite common for people to say they watch NJPW or Japanese wrestling. When in reality they basically watched clips of matches and not the actual shows ,Meltzer's ratings and the way the bucks said they were over. Kenny was over to an extent when he was leader of the Bullet Club the Bucks were basically his from what I remember (I stopped following NJPW as much once AJ Styles left), also Kenny being over wasnt due to himself he took over as leader of an established over faction, he didnt really grow the audience in that role compared to AJ

I think though, even in some of those cases, these are people who don't like the modern product anyway; Cornette doesn't necessarily influence them, they just steal his script in terms of articulating their displeasure.

The whole business was more significant than an isolated person like Omega clearly knows nothing about. The territories were huge in the 80s, and companies drew way more money and had a broader fan base than wrestling today, even with all the exposure.

The vast wrestling market are actually manipulatable overseas foreign markets that will eat up anything marketing executives calculate can be sold most. Not that long ago, Jim Ross used to be one of the most optimistic voices in wrestling. 3 years announcing with AEW and dealing with the bucks/omega camp and it’s just killed his love for the business. I think the internet journalists made fans more miserable overall by spoiling every detail of every angle before they even air live. The real facts are that from its peak in the late 90s and early 2000s, professional wrestling has lost well over 90% of its audience. These are facts. Do you think that's because those people just simply grew up and stopped watching or do you think it's because the quality of the product has gone down significantly? I'll give you a clue. I watched wrestling every single show there was from mid 1993 until 2016. I stopped watching because it sucked. I watched the first few episodes of AEW because I was excited that we might have another big promotion but it was God awful. I tuned in again when CM Punk came back and Danielson came back because I thought they might save it and they did increase the quality a little bit. At least when they were on TV and others like MJF were on it was good and it was watchable. Now that those people are gone however I think it's pretty clear that AEW, the vast majority of anyway, sucks.

Kenny’s legacy in new japan was the matches with okada and, one or two good matches with naito and a very good match with tanahashi. His title reign was abysmal, he was fit to be the quick, athletic guy that hits moves that look somewhat cool to pose a threat to the champion but that’s it, he should’ve never been a world champion

I was at my highest NJPW following during that time, so I remember those days pretty well. Tbh, looking back I think the problem was that New Japan tried to extend the thing way too much, with the Dominion match ending in a draw, then the G1 match, then Omega going on to the Jericho feud while Okada had a feud with Naito at WK and then the Jay White/Gedo thing. This while at the same time doing the entire Cody vs Kenny Bullet Club friction thing ft. Kota Ibushi that then became an Elite (by Elite I mean Omega, Bucks, Cody, Marty, Hangman and those guys) vs BC OG (GOD, Fale, etc.) when Omega was IWGP Heavyweight Champion. And I was a fan of them and still kind of am now (more of a Jericho guy now, but still). You had a 1000 things done over the course of a year when it could've probably been better imo if Omega had won the title at Dominion and then dropped it to Naito at WK before moving on to the BC friction story and end it up with the Jericho match (this in a time when the guys were so over you would see lots of BC shirts in WWE crowds). But I guess it worked well for them having their own company now, so...

Ok I still haven't actually seen a single episode of AEW yet. But I so loyally watch New Japan and have done for years. The Young Bucks have never been a draw in Japan. They were the opening match spotfest match in what is the Junior Heavyweight Tag Team division. A division that lacked depth when they were there and still do. They had a short run in the "Heavyweight" Tag Team division where they looked like children compared to LIJ (Evil and Sanada), Guerillas of Destiny or anyone else, and they didn't even participate in that years (or any years really) World Tag League. And remember tournaments are a big part of their booking. As for Twinkletoes. He was in the junior division heel, as a mid card guy until AJ left. When AJ, Gallows and Anderson went to WWE they went with Olivier and the Bucks to fill that void. Pushed him hard because Bullet Club was a major merchandise mover and really over in ROH. New Japan really valued that relationship with ROH too so that would have been a factor. So to push him they booked him to win the G1 and main event the Tokyo Dome and went all in making him a star. At the time Bullet Club didn't have anyone else because at the time AJ, Gallows and Anderson left, everyone else in the faction were booked to be scrubs at the time. So in short, Bucks were never stars in Japan, management made Kenny a star because they were desperate to save a profitable stable because they had no one else.

Let's be honest, Jim Cornette has been around Pro Wrestling during the time it was considered "believable" and "acceptable". He is considered one of the greats. I do not blame him for getting upset over Twinkle toes, the young bucks, and pockets for making something that most people believed and enjoyed, obviously fake. I grew up on this shit, when I see where it went, I'm fucking embarrassed.

That’s an interesting take. I grew up with wrestling too, beginning with WWF, NWA and AWA in the early 80s. Nearly every adult in my life told me it was ridiculous and obviously fake, and I don’t remember it being taken seriously or having any mainstream credibility even back then. If anything, it was even more ridiculed back then as a product only meant for children and uneducated ‘hillbilly’ adults.

@@desertchrome4538 finally got around to listening to this... I'm indifferent towards Omega because I think all the finger pointing and phone sex voice is stupid.... However, he made a couple good points. As great of a wrestling mind as Jim is, he legit makes six figures basically making bitter old wrestling fans feel vindicated by saying wrestling sucks and was better in the good ol days lol. Although AEW has a fanbase built off dorks who take wrestling too seriously and get real life mad when things in the E didn't go there way... Edit, Jim did those views based off like legit 15 different Vince McMahon clips in less than a week lol

I originally start watching Mr. Jim Cornette's KZbin channel because I'm a big fan of AEW and I heard people talking about his criticism on AEW and I hated him, I just wanted to hear by myself what he trashtalk about AEW. After watching and listening to Mr. Jim Cornette's videos on this KZbin Channel for a while, I realize that what he has said so far are correct and AEW, especially Tony Khan should have listened to him and take his advice to improve the shows.
