The first song that my brother and I learned from our father who passed away 20 years ago. Never really knew the history of the song before. That was 40 years ago, fond memories. My brother is 51, and I will be 50 in a few months. We both can still play this song in multiple chords, great old song, thank you dad..

@@leekoss7083 , Mother Maybelle played some times on the Grand Ole Opry and with Johnny Cash. I'm 75 if that says anything.

@ Yes, I know. Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters were regulars on the Grand Old Opry stage beginning around 1950. And yes, Johnny Cash welcomed her and the sisters (including June Carter, his second wife) on his show and tours, and also included his children, step-children, and Maybelle's other grandchildren, too. I've 70. Very clever twist on on Wildwood Flower.

I'll never forget watching your show on TV, the skit was doing a cowboy saloon, you and three other cowpokes were sitting at a poker table playing Poker, you bet all you had if I remember correctly, turned your cards over and said "I got 4 aces"! your opponent showed his hand and said"Ha ha! I got 5 aces"! you turned to look at the camera with a puzzled look on your face and said "I thought he was Bluffin!" The audience exploded! I did too, that was so funny, after all these years, I still remember that, lol. I wish you could air some re-runs on youtube, I'd buy a season or two, heck, I'd buy 'em all! lol. Thanks Jim, for sharing all these memories, I'm going to subscribe, leave a thumbs up, and a tap on the bell. I'll be watching for more of your videos. Thanks for sharing.

I remember catching an occasional showing of "Nashville Now" on "The Nashville Network" back in the 1980s. Jim Stafford looks so youthful here! I'm guessing this originally aired in 1985 (where Jim would be 41 years old). He looks thirty here! He was guest-hosting here. Ralph Emery ( "NN"'s regular host) knew how to conduct cordial interviews with the biggest stars of country music back in the day. I miss the classic "TNN". The channel would later see changes & morph into "Spike TV" - so sad.

It was 1986, and I was working for a Nightclub, by the name of "Goodies." Well, one of the bartenders introduced me to a man, who was in charge of the Mobile Del Taco Truck, and he had to be in Yucca Valley, for the Grubstakes Festival. She couldn't work, so I did it. While we were there, I found out that Jim Stafford was performing there, so of course, on our break/lunch, we mozied on down to the stage, sat down, and waited for him to appear. He did. He was hilarious. We were smashed, because the Budweiser truck was there too. So of course, we HAD to partake. Oh man, was I obnoxious. Poor Mr. Stafford, was so gracious about my constant requests for every song I'd played on the album he's talking about, in this video. I finally shut up, and he thanked me(Lol), and he began to sing this song. "Wildwood Weed." Thank you Mr. Stafford, for putting up with me back then.

When Jim Stafford recorded that song and my neighbor friends and myself would gather around a transistor C battery 🔋 operated radio 📻 to listen to wildwood weed. Or we had the little CRAIG transistor radios we carried in our backpacks 🎒 that ran on a 9 volt battery 🔋. They had pull up retractable antennas & they was the size of a pack of cigarettes. Seemed all of us kids had the small transistor radios that ran on batteries back then. Who would've thought 30-35 years ago they would've came out with a device same size as the pocket transistor radio....... That has TV 📺 , Computer 🖥️, talking GPS to take place of the Road Map 🗺️ & A Radio 📻 all on 1 device Called A ( SMART CELLULAR PHONE ) ? A DEVICE RAN BY SATELLITES 🛰️ IN OUTTER SPACE SHOOTING BILLIONS OF SIGNALS DOWN TO EARTH TO TOWERS🗼INSTALLED BY CELLULAR PHONE 📱 COMPANIES AND THEN DOWN TO OUR HAND ✋ HELD CELLULAR PHONE 📱 JUST EXACTLY LIKE THE SIGNAL ⚡ STRAIGHT TO OUR TRANSISTOR RADIOS 📻 BACK THEN ?????? Nobody would've ever in a million years guessed that could've been possible when we were listening 🎧 to this song when it came out on transistor radios !!!! So here i am many years later looking this song up on a telephone 🤳📱 on the internet and listening to it on a telephone 📱 & also a computer 🖥️ !! Listening to it on a device that back then we'd have laughed at anyone if they'd told us this was going to come to pass 😂. So mindblowing 🤯 to ssy the least at the technology now compared to then, because then radio 📻 and Air television 📺 was it. There wasn't even internet or computers 💻 yet in 1974 when Jim Stafford recorded this song. But back when they played this song on the radio We thought it was hilarious 😂. Nowadays you never hear it played on the radio unless you listen to a oldies radio station and then it's usually played only when someone requested it . But they stopped playing it after Reagan took office and Nancy Reagan done her Nationwide "Just Say No to Drugs" campaign while he was in office. Her Just say no to drugs and mothers against drunk driving and other groups put pressure on many radio 📻 stations & requested they not 🚫 play music that encouraged drinking or drug use! Well us as kids and teenagers never wanted to grow 🪴 or smoke marijuana just because of this funny Jim Stafford Song "Wildwood Weed". Neither did we wanna drink from hearing Country or other genres of music that had songs that spoke of drinking or drug use. Maybe a small few did but very few done drugs or Alcohol just because they heard it on A song. But in closing, Jim Staffords Song Wildwood Weed will always be in the Top 200 Funny Classic Songs of all time.
