REMEMBER!! Everyone has a different definition of what a Spoiler is, but if you enjoyed this reaction, then it’s in YOUR BEST INTEREST to keep me as blind as possible! Please don’t talk about any songs beyond what I’ve reacted to, even if you’re just hinting at the future! I’ll be releasing a new part of Six every single Monday starting on June 3, but if you can’t wait that long, the next part will be up on my Patreon THIS THURSDAY!!! I would love to see you there, otherwise make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss it when Six comes back!

I think for K. Howart the line "just one part in a stupid rhyme" references how History barely mentions her beside one Poem and even there she only gets one phrase? No Portraits, Paintings or Literature for a long Time in English History.

(Possible spoilers!) And even when people did cover her story it was always very victim-blame-y. “She was a scoundrel” “she seduced men”, when someone is that age it’s never their choice. Even if they think they’re happy while they’re going through it they were likely manipulated into thinking they were ok with it (just clarifying that I’m talking about when it specifically happens with much older people, if it’s a choice they make with someone else of their age it’s usually more likely to be consensual)

1) Each queen is based on contemporary femme artists for costume and musical style. It’ll be fun seeing you try and guess (a queen can have more than one counterpart but no queen shares an artist) 2) try to find an animatic for “All You Wanna Do” that has audio from a live performance because it will have more emotion than the “produced” album recording. Both are still very good listens.

CA: Catherine of Aragon (divorced) AB: Anne Boleyn (beheaded) JS: Jane Seymour (died) AC: Anna of Cleves (divorced) KH: Katherine Howard (beheaded) CP: Cathryn Parr (survived) The animators have done a good job of carrying over the colors that the costumers use. Each character has several inspirations in their vocal line and costuming. There are several good videos about the choices they made floating around KZbin that would be worth your while to watch once you complete watching/listening to the musical. (Maybe a Patreon special?) The club feel comes from the origins of the musical. Its first performance was at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It is very funny and also poignant. The background music is provided by a live onstage band, listed as the Ladies in Waiting.

As hinted by the ending dialogue, the queens are competing over who had it worst w/That Guy so each song is a different Queen's story (except Haus of Holbien & the finale). The dialogue/story in between is more banter than plot per se for the most part. I think the soundtrack is mostly sufficient to follow along, but we'll happily chime in w/any extra notes/context. Super excited to follow you on this journey, I'm so sure you'll love it! 🩷

Multiple things: 1. I think taking this 2 songs at a time would give really good contrast between the wives and music styles here, so like [No Way and Don't Lose Your Head], [Heart of Stone and Get Down], [All You Wanna Do and Don't Need Your Love] because then you can have a seperate video for the closing song, Six giving it that perfect big finish. 2. I don't think a lot of people pick up on this but During Jane's part she introduces herself, Jane Seymour, and finishes her verse with, "You'll suddenly SEE MORE" and I think it's neat but hardly anyone comments on that 3. The tune in the background of that song might be familiar as it is What Child Is This (the Christmas song) or Greensleeves, which was apparently a poem Henry wrote to Anne Boylen, which is why she later sings the lyric "my sleeves may be green" in reference to the poem and thus the backing instrumentation Edit: Nooooooo I forgot Haus of Holbein, which would throw off the queen to queen songs, but it would make 4 perfect videos of 2 songs each. That song will give you musical whiplash no matter what you pair it with

This only applies to the directors/producers (Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss) who were both students at Cambridge and put it in originally with 6 students who were in the drama/theatre club. Then it was brought to the Edinburgh fringe 2017 and it caught a producer's eye. The cast album was released in 2018 when the original UK tour began. It was brought onto the west end in January 2019 and was supposed to open on Broadway on (I think) the 12th of march 2020 and it was that Broadway was going to close the door same day so six began on Broadway in 2021 (just some six history)

Especially since (as far as I know) the animatics draw their audio from the studio recording, where the focus is on a clean, polished sound; whereas the live version (any live version) will give you a raw, emotional interpretation more in line with what the song is actually about.

1. You could do two songs per video like with epic. That way you could get to Hadestown even faster and the other songs tend to be shorter than the first one. 2. there are animatics for the in between sections but they are probably harder to find if you don't know what goes between which songs. I would check those out after listening to all the songs. SIX doesn't really have a storyline to follow, all the important parts are in the songs. like they explained in the end of this animatic, they are all gonna sing about their lives to see who should win the contest (aka who had it the hardest as queen). 3. can't help with this one XD but the list you found looked good. Also thanks as always for making the videos you make, they are always a delight to watch

In response to your questions: 1&2: i recommend the anamitics of the transition scenes and the song so you get the full picture. Some artists have done both together in their animatic (its typically easy to spot by the time length of the animatic). You can also search up the transition bits and I know at least one person has animated the entire musical in their drawing style 3. I'll get back to you on this one
@Julie-rv1ml
@Julie-rv1ml 8 ай бұрын
Ok I'm back. It looks like you can find on KZbin the transition scenes as animatics for most of the songs with a little bit of choice. The only one I can see being an issue is the dialogue right after ex wives. There is only one animatic for the dialogue (literally only one thing came up when I search ex wives post dialogue. And there is no CC and the audio is a bit rough so you might need someone to transcribe the audio bits as it's very very witty and says up the premis of the whole musical so it's pretty important. Everything else you can search as "_____ intro" enter the name of the queen singing and make sure you add "six" and rinse and repeat for each song.

MUSICAL MONDAYS LETS GOOOOO!! I’m so hyped. To attempt to answer your questions: 1. For the most part each song is pretty stand-alone so one vid per song makes a lot of sense with the exception of Haus of Holbein and Get Down, which are pretty linked. 2. Pretty much all of the bits between songs are a lot like the bit at the end of this one. They’re all only a few minutes long, and they all have animatics made on KZbin. They’re really funny, so if you have time I’d really recommend checking them out. 3. This one’s hard bcs there are so many insanely good ones out there, though Gigi’s were always my favorite when I was really into Six, especially their I Don’t Need Your Love animatic. Love the vid and can’t wait for the next one!!! (And also go Hadestown bcs it rules)

They have a cabaret or musical-esque story telling music style, where their albums basically bring you on a journey and are definitely recommended to listen to the albums in the order that they have on their YT. And the albums have really fun concepts! Like western arthurian tales, fairytales in space, greek myths with a twist, as well as one about norse mythswith an eldritch crossover, which is my favorite! I really enjoy their music not just for the sound, which while not professional has a very earnest and raw sound, especially at the first album. One detail that comes to mind, you and/or Mason will probably figure out. 😏I also needed a reason to rave in my chair, thanks for the Monday dance party! If you you didn't pick up on it, "Greensleeves" is what was playing during the EDM breaks of this opener. The tune was supposedly written by Henry VIII about Anne Boleyn, but that hasn't been historically proven, hence the "my sleeves may be green, but my lipstick's red" line.

When you get to Katherine Howard's song, All you wanna do, you need to listen to a live version of it as the emotions of it live hits you harder than it does the recorded version

I don’t know if there’s any animatics to Sam Pauly’s rendition of “All you want to do” but I like it better than Aimee’s studio rendition for… [spoiler] reasons. Sam Pauly posted a rendition on her YT channel from her room where she sings it with the acting intact and great audio quality.

I finally got to see Six for the first time back in March for my birthday and I nearly lost it. Like, I actually almost squealed when I heard that first “divorced…” They played their opening song in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade a few years ago and I listened to that opening sing ever since, not wanting to listen to ANY of the other songs until I saw the musical to avoid spoilers.

I'M SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU LISTEN TO THIS!! Six is literally one of my favorite musicals (right alongside Epic!) and to see you react is so fun! Definitely check out the live versions of these songs, as a lot of them have dialogue in them that provides some more context! Plus the emotions, are just so much more raw

Love that you're getting down (ha) to this musical! The premise of the musical is kind of meta in that the queens know they are performing. Its only the Queens and their band on stage for the entire musical. I would recommend doing each song individually except maybe do Haus of Holbein and Get Down together. I would highly recommend that for All your wanna specifically you do you find watch with the live dialogue before and after and just watch Samantha Pauly's live Broadway version of it because its genuinely one of the best live theater moments ever! Thats probably also the way to go with Don't lose your head too, because those two songs specifically tell a different story when seen live with the dialogue than what the Studio Album will lead you to believe imo. Idk much about the animatic choices but imo for the most part you should stick to the west end recordings if you can see the choice in the animatics- exceot for Samantha Pauly broadway All you wanna do! And final fun fact the musical has a really fun end remix called "mega six" that the queens give the audience explicit permission to record so you should react live to that too!

25:03 this is what this line is referring to: Henry VIII had four different chief royal ministers while he was king. Two of them (Thomas More and Thomas Cromwell) were executed for Treason, one died just after being arrested (Cardinal Thomas Wolsey) and one just managed to outlive Henry (Thomas Howard). The weird thing is - Thomas Cromwell was his ONLY chief minister from 1532-1540. There were other royal ministers of course, but that’s the only one we hear about during that time really. And he was EXTREMELY good at his job. So basically this is a fancy way of saying “who’s the best?”

Just so you know, these listed Gigi animatics are old. Like, REALLY old. Her arts gone through some changes over time, but if you're looking for more of what your probably used to from her, her Dont Lose Your Head and Heart of Stone animatics are more recent. (not to say I don't love the others, I Don't Need Your Love is how I found her all those years ago so yeah. Super nostalgic). (also, ps. These animatics aren't on her main page, you have to go to her playlists and find the SIX stuff over there).

MORTIUS… YES, MORE! I’m soo glad you’re reacting to SIX because I’d seen stuff about it and was Legit debating whether or not to watch when this video came out! Long story short, I watched it, it’s S Tier, and I’m dying waiting for your next reaction!!! If you liked this song, I just know you’re going to lose your head at the others, the majority are better! Now that’s in no way a dig at Ex Wives, it’s a 10/10 song, but the rest are 11/10 (Except the next one, 5/10 in my unmusicallyeducated opinion) As for your questions: 1. I only watched the songs as I don’t have time to sit down and watch full musicals so i can’t help with the in between bits. 2. I highly recommend the playlist you started on, I watched many animatics in my frenzy for more SIX content and those are the best I’ve seen, plus, song 3 has a extra talking bit from the musical in the video to like this animatic has, I highly recommend! Also Gigi’s outdone themselves with their animatics as usual, for SIX. 3. I could say i want you to do a sit down and listen to all the songs in one big video so we have all the reactions immediately but that’d be selfish and rude. I do think stick to one or two songs a video, not three as, at least in my opinion, these have more to discuss per song than the EPIC songs do. Lastly, if you’re even still reading, I absolutely loved the reaction and just because I unsubscribed from your Patreon, it doesn’t mean I’ll stop watching your amazing content, just can’t afford to pay rn. Love you man!

Love your pure enthusiasm. I think that similarity between K Howards vocals and Eliza is simply bc they are both stylistically pulling from the same contemporary genre/artist inspos. Each queen is meant to be musically inspired by a a couple modern divas. I also agree with everyone saying if you can watch a live version for All You Wanna Do, please do that. I know it can be tricky, but if you can find one that won't get you into trouble go for that bc seeing the live makes a huge difference. But even just hearing it live is better than the canned. They have the Broadway live opening night (audio only) on the SIX yt channel and Sam Pauly is incredible.

I got to see this on Broadway and it was one of the most memorable experiences! I love this soundtrack and the modern take on history and there are so many juicy things to pick out throughout all of the songs. Each queen’s style is distinct and is inspired by one or two pop icons I wonder if you can guess them. I am so looking forward to the rest of your reactions for this musical! :)

There is an amazing playlist of animators who have animated the whole show (or at least the important bits)! Definitely recommend watching. You can break it up easily because it's normally a queen intro followed by a song. The only part that breaks the format is Anne of cleves. I recommend doing house of Holbein, her intro, and then get down all in one video.

Plotwise you pretty much get all of it from this animactic coupled with the songs; theyre singing about their lives and relationship with Henry in oder to determine which Queen was the best. I think the best format would be a song a video except, for a few songs. Haus of Holbien goes directly into Get Down. And there’s two short songs that are like an intro for Don’t Lose Your Head but they’re not very important, just fun.

I also think you definitely should watch the Studio recordings of each song. Don’t know if my previous comment brought it up, but those are the most consistent and cannon voices for the songs. They’re the ones that most animatics use.

As another KH fan, I can't wait for you to get to her song. It's what brought my attention to Six. (I also absolutely love dropping the instrumentation in a song as they bring in acapella harmonies. In addition to being incredibly powerful, the _way_ it's powerful to me rests firmly in the heart of the power of humanity, individually and as a group. There's something inherently moving and triumphant about it, even in moments depicting failure.)

I'm glad you're starting SIX and enjoying it so much!!! This musical is so hype that some of the casts/productions have actually started doing scheduled sing-along-performances of the show. As it implies, the audience is invited to belt the songs alongside the actors at these performances, something pretty new to musical theatre (where it's usually considered quite rude). I was lucky to attend one in Toronto, before it's closing date!

I love watching you lose your mind over things that I've lost my mind over ;P One of my immediate clocks with this piece was the instrumentals doing 'Greensleeves' in a major mode. Yesssss, one of my favourite musicals ❤ I’m so happy! Haha, you got so excited over the part with the harmonies and vanishing instrumentals that you skipped over my favourite line of the song 😂 (the “queen bee” line) If I remember correctly, the little bits of dialogue between the songs were often animated by people and it’s a bit hard to understand the full story without them… so I would at least recommend looking up a synopsis to get the full picture before each song.

I’m very excited to see more musical reactions because I love how excited you get for everything you watch + your analysis. One of my favorite bits from this song in particular is the end of Jane’s solo (“stick around and you’ll suddenly see more”) because 1. It rhymes with her last name and 2. It gets Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors stuck in my head (one of my favorite musicals)
