Lines like that make Clubber more of a rival than a villain. On some level, even Rocky was clearly feeling deep down that he agreed with that statement. Needed more guts, to defend his belt like a real champion. Mickey and Adrian didn't see it that way, Mickey saw a miracle he had to protect. Adrian saw the man she wanted to love for her whole life. But Rocky agreed deep down. The crass line about Rocky's wife helped pave a road for Rocky to not retire, and justify it. But there are other scenes that show Clubber being pretty unnecessarily mean and loudmouth to Creed, calling him a has-been. So he is ultimately a villain. But I wouldn't have minded a callously encouraging rival.

He could have had respect for Creed as a former champion or just ignored him and stayed focused. One thing they missed was not giving Clubber his own spinoff He was too good for just 1 movie

Clubber Lang would have had to carry the majority of it since he would have more then likely done most of the talking. And when it comes to the fight I think Ivan Drago would have won simply because he had technique. Clubber Lang would try to brute force his will and would have tired himself out early. Which would have left an opening for Ivan Drago to just pick him apart within minutes maybe even seconds.

Clubber Lang should have been represented in some of the other subsequent Rocky franchise movies. They act like the events in Rocky III never happened. I mean Ted took his name which is great but they should have had him fight Drago or someone later in the franchise. I think he's my favorite character in all of the 32 movies or so in the Rocky Franchise. 😅

To me Clubber Lang was not an antagonist. He might have tried to have gone about it in a "nice" way to get a shot at Rocky, but he made several great points. To me, Clubber's humanity comes out when he is speaking to the crowd, while Mickey speaks to Rocky. Here is what Clubber says (from 3:11): "I'm glad you people are seeing this here. Here are two things I don't understand: One, they make it sound like Mickey could choose who Rocky fought...I thought in real life you had to fight whoever the governing bodies tell you (WBA/WBC/maybe also IBF at the time)...or else. Insiders know that T really did not like doing that confrontation scene. Did NOT like the offensive line delivered to Talia. His mother did NOT like it. And didn’t quite get that ya know it’s a character it’s not T actually saying it. But it upset his mother just the same. And if you know T he LOVES, worships and ADORES his mother. All that said T did just a great great job. Sly did a great job getting it out of him.
