I heard DeMeo's son talk about how his father knew he was probably going to get killed if he didn't "go on the lamb" and run but hearing these stories from Sammy the bull makes me definitely feel like he deserved his fate. There's a difference between killing for business and killing for pleasure and he clearly had crossed the line. He was dangerous to everyone around him so he had to go.

A good friend of mine served in a reconnaissance role in Vietnam. He told me, "I killed most people with a radio". He would find them and the US Navy and US Air Force would finish them. He would sit in the jungle waiting for the bombings to stop. He counted bodies. He would sneak off to an extraction point. My friend was a soldier. He paid dearly for what he did, he doesn't have a restful night's sleep. Sammy was a soldier. He got an order. He did as he was ordered. If everyone followed the rules than Sammy was safe. Roy, it seems, just killed people. It's a little bit different.

@lp macaco Right now the drug cartels are the most powerful. They make the most money and kill the most people. The MOB is on it knees in the united states, the government has gutted them out. But what makes the Italian mafia special, is its structure and rules. No one has that. This is how they are able to take all these hits and not be destroyed. The Medellin cartel is gone, the Cail cartel is gone. Because they were built on money only, not structure. How many Mob boss have been taken down and the family still survives. This is what makes LCN special. But things are changing, they took down the Sinaloa boss El chapo, but that organization is still strong and alive.

@@riparturogatti1907 Yes. It's one of the better mob books I've read. That said, Dominic Montiglio is one of the book's main sources and he almost certainly lied about his military background and it stands to reason he may have lied or exaggerated about some things. It's still worthwhile, I'd say. I think there's enough alternative corroboration on much of the info regarding the Gemini crew that I don't think the book should be cast aside totally. Excellent, intriguing, and disturbing read. These were extraordinarily cruel and evil people.
