My step-dad used to be a truck driver, and I remember I was riding with him after he retired from the industry and started his contracting business. He showed the places where he would deliver pipes for construction and plumbing purposes. I also remember when he would park the large truck across the street from our house whenever he stopped by for lunch. He also drove a flatbed truck for a bit too.

I'm surprised you didn't mention how you can talk to truckers with your lights. Perhaps it's a dying thing. When my dad and I traveled cross country in an old 85 pickup he taught me how to be better for the truckers, cause he used to drive. Like if they wanted over in front of me I could stay back and flash my lights to let them know "go ahead". It was so cool when a drive flashed some of his rig lights to tell me thank you. Always give them room and Never cut in front of them. RIP Dad

Well we have to take on commercial gigs to pay the bills, as this isn’t quite sustainable just yet (although we are growing fast!). I’d say it takes about a month to put it all together. We spend a lot of time crafting the story, doing rewrites, trying different edits, animation and all of the music is original! So all of that takes time but we’d rather have it be better and take longer

Hey Chowder Head, they are NOT Semi-trucks! Semi" means "half" and a truck is not half of anything. They are Highway-tractors that pull semi-trailers. A "tag-trailer" has very little weight on the tongue of the trailer but on a semi-trail, about half the weight is on the tractors. Now, the difference between a truck and a tractor is that a truck can, without a trailer, carry a load whereas a tractor cannot pull a load without a trailer..
@toddwieland76643 жыл бұрын
This explains the heyday of trucking being the 1970s. The Eisenhower highway system was the mutually completed and America had a new toy. Then warren buffet and the Oklahoma hunt family struck a quantum agreement with Walmart in 1989 that has kept freight rates virtually unchanged for 33 years. The truck hospitality system we see today is a mere skeleton of what it was in the early 1980s. Drivers have had less to spend steadily over the years and the truck stops are way beyond the honeymoon period with drivers. Bucees in Texas is exclusively for cars. Pilot, ta, and loves are building express stations , with less or no truck parking. In a time of freight growth and a national parking shortage crisis, Commercial drivers increasingly are prey to state police for parking on ramps , etc, when their clocks run out.

How many parking spots? How much to build? Gross and net fuel sales? ( that’s where the money is) Heather said one million visits annually is about 200,000 per week , and twenty pumps sell an average of 210.00 gross fuel every 45 minutes 24/7 is fifty cents per minute is 120.00 per hour per pump Gross. Net is probably 30.00 per hour profit x 20 pumps is 500.00 per hour x 24 is 12000.00 x 29 is around 360,000. Per month x 12 is 4.3 million profit annually before op expenses. For 20 fuel isles. This explains the museum drivers couldn’t care less about or have the time to walk through.

Driver-less needs a Driver if there is No lines on the road, as the sensors need to read those lines.. Years ago they Originally buried wires in the road that certain sensors picked up, and could also tell the distance between vehicles, But what if the Lines break or the Lines disappear, CRASH, or somebody pulls in front of you and break checks{ILLEGAL}, Crash.. Even with the New GPS Satellites that can track you down to approx 1ft, the Previous Conditions Still apply.. I recommend to ALL Truckers to use a Dash Cam, and mount it at Eye Height, and get the ones that have GPS, as again proof your not doing excessive speed and the Car Did pull in front of you!!

Cross country truck drivers are the worst drivers on the road. Most don't know the left lane is for passing and when the do, they never have the power/speed to overtake the other truck to their right, so they just hang therefor miles while other drivers have to wait. The national brands (fedex-walmart-etc) are the best and are pros; the others think they'll get there sooner if they do 66 in a 65 zone while holding up traffic.

I worry about the loss of truck driver jobs when trucks become more automated. The nice lady said "not to worry, we'll still need a driver in the cab," but I don't think so. Big semis will stay on the interstates, where drivers won't be needed. I hope to live long enough to see what happens.
@ramblingbill91014 жыл бұрын
Drivers will always be needed to make the pickup and the delivery. Every shipping and delivery location is different and automated trucks will not be able to handle that part of it. For years now trains have been taking trailers of freight across the country. But when time is an issue the best and fastest option is still a regular truck. I can pickup a load in Atlanta and it can be delivered in Los Angeles in 3 days. A train will take a week or more. Also an automated truck will sooner or later cause a very major accident and that will put a stop to automated trucks.

I think self driving trucks will take these jobs. Initially she may be right but it wont take long until the human drivers a redundant. Also companies who are paying for the hauling dont want the liability of the health of people who sit all day many of which are older. It is significantly cheaper to ship if there is no driver. More money will be pored into removing the driver.
