Thanks for giving the link to this complete version! It is so well done and the beginning is there for a purpose. It's great to include the source for the quote, like Secrets of Heaven 6832:1 which I find wonderful and profound. It is so true that we perceive everything in accordance with our nature. So we all have a unique perception of the divine and probably the universe. Maybe that's why there's a great wisdom in sharing these perceptions in order to "see" those perspectives which are otherwise out of our reach. The challenging part is to have a sophisticated enough language in which to couch our ideas. God, being the Teacher, needs to teach us where we are spiritually, or else no understanding takes place. The idea of using different trailers suited to different demographics is an interesting and smart way of thinking. Maybe this concept can be applied to religion as a whole as seen over all of history. Each age and culture is a different demographics needing a specialized "trailer" to do an effective job. So to appreciate the "trailer" of any culture, you have to have a feeling and knowledge of the spiritual state of those people at the time they received their "trailer". You don't judge the second grade teacher as being less knowledgeable than the 8th grade teacher because her lessons are so simple in comparison. I really like the Heaven and Hell trailer because of the need for people to not live in fear, but have knowledge of the continuity of life into a meaningful and joyful eternity. The NDE experiences reinforce this understanding. The whole meaning of life comes from this knowledge. "God is the husband of all religions" is profound for someone in the 18th century or even today! And the idea that professions and creative work of all kinds is a connection to God is wonderful and true. Baha'is have a teaching that work done in the spirit of service to mankind is a form of worship. What you are doing here is for sure a form of worshiping God.

I’m a year late since this was produced, but I was really impressed by what I saw. Swedenborg definitely had a rare gift and wished to share it with others. I don’t know but, maybe the timing was right. (that is, in the 18th century). In today’s age, and if Swedenborg were alive today, I wonder how he would do? I mean with all the endless opinions on religion. The computer has brought everyone’s opinions to your doorstep. It’s brought the world down to the size of a golf ball..... I thought the trailers were very good. I’m so glad for this show and everyone’s participation in it. I’m not much of a reader, most of the time I have trouble visualizing in my mind what I read. I can read and write words very good, but I don’t have the patience as say, Dr. Rose has. I’m sure he has read every word in Swedenborg’s works and visualized their meanings. That’s why this show is so good for those who have an interest in Swedenborg. My thanks go out to Curtis who put this all together many years ago. Now we have a visual read along, together with questions, rationalizations and things of that nature. Its a GOOD thing to help others and I’m sure Swedenborg would agree.🙂❤️👍🏻🌸

So glad you enjoyed this one, Julian! Those trailers were fun to put together. :) Yeah, interesting to try to imagine how Swedenborg would have operated if he were alive today, but, I'm sure it has all been unfolding just right in God's perfect timing!

Hey guys. Since you were using film trailers as part of this episode, I thought that I would mention the 2014 film, "Heaven Is For Real". This film was based on Colton Burpo's real life NDE that he had experienced in 2003. I found some Swedenborg connections in Colton's NDE. Colton claimed that he had visited the afterlife and met Jesus Christ. He also experienced meeting his sister that had been miscarried 5 years prior. His parents admitted that they had never spoken about their unborn child to him. Colton also interacted with his great grandfather and knew details about him that should have been impossible for him to have known. Colton also observed that when children pass away, they get to grow up in heaven/the afterlife to adulthood. He also noticed that older people in the hereafter, eventually become younger as well. He stated that most people/spirits appear to be in their late 20's, when they were at their best in their natural lives. I believe these facts from Colton's NDE align with what Swedenborg has taught us about the afterlife? Colton's father is a Protestant Christian Pastor in a small church in the States/US. I don't think that they knew about Swedenborg back then or even now. Maybe Colton's experience is just a Swedenborg coincidence lol ? I look forward to hearing some feedback from anyone !!!!! Great show guys !!!!!!!!!!!
@offTheLeftEye6 жыл бұрын
Hi, Justin! I have heard about "Heaven is for Real," but I have not seen it, so thank you for telling me a little about it. I don't have the impression that the Burpo family are familiar with Swedenborg's books, but I am not surprised that nevertheless there are similarities between Colin's experience and things that Swedenborg wrote about. Yes, Swedenborg also saw that all children go to heaven and then grow into young adults, and that adults who die grow younger, back to young adulthood in body. And most certainly it is a parallel to meet ancestors or others that the person hadn't met while living on earth. Swedenborg didn't mention meeting unborn siblings, but I have heard a few other stories like that.

I woud just gently suggest that you not take all such stories to heart as literal truth. Evidently you have not been kept up to date on the exposure of another similar story about the same time period. My point is that such stories are pleasant and interesting and can be inspiring but do not really prove anything. At their best, their intent is to bring people to a particular protestant denomination's vision of God via fiction. We just do not really know. Here is a news item on one such book recently. Nearly five years after it hit best-seller lists, a book that purported to be a 6-year-old boy's story of visiting angels and heaven after being injured in a bad car crash is being pulled from shelves. The young man at the center of The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven, Alex Malarkey, said this week that the story was all made up. The book's publisher, Tyndale House, had promoted it as "a supernatural encounter that will give you new insights on Heaven, angels, and hearing the voice of God." But Thursday, Tyndale House confirmed to NPR that it is taking "the book and all ancillary products out of print." The decision to pull the book comes after Alex Malarkey wrote an open letter to retailer LifeWay and others who sell Christian books and religious materials. It was published this week on the Pulpit and Pen website. "I did not die. I did not go to Heaven," Alex wrote. He continued, "I said I went to heaven because I thought it would get me attention. When I made the claims that I did, I had never read the Bible. People have profited from lies, and continue to. They should read the Bible, which is enough. The Bible is the only source of truth. Anything written by man cannot be infallible." He concluded, "Those who market these materials must be called to repent and hold the Bible as enough." Here are a few key background details of the story: Alex Malarkey was paralyzed at the age of 6 when he was in a car wreck. He then spent two months in a coma. He's now a teenager. The book lists him as a co-author along with his father, Kevin Malarkey. Calling the book a "spiritual memoir," The Washington Post notes that it "became part of a popular genre of 'heavenly tourism,' which has been controversial among orthodox Christians." Alex's parents are now divorced; he and his siblings live with his mother, Beth Malarkey, who has previously spoken out against the book featuring her son. She has also said that profits from the book haven't been going to Alex. Another book about a boy who said he had gone to heaven, Heaven Is For Real, has been turned into a movie. Last spring, Beth Malarkey wrote a blog post stating, "Alex's name and identity are being used against his wishes (I have spoken before and posted about it that Alex has tried to publicly speak out against the book), on something that he is opposed to and knows to be in error according to the Bible." She added, "I am fully aware of what it feels like to be pulled in. There are many who are scamming and using the Word of God to do it. They are good, especially if you are not digging into your Bible and truly studying it. They study their audience and even read 'success' books to try to build better and bigger ... 'ministries/businesses.' " Thanks to NPR editor Susan Vavrick for flagging this story.

Absolutely delightful! These series will become classics in their own right! I did some reading about Other Planets, in particular, "burping on the moon". Actual landings on the moon have not revealed present or past life forms but that does not rule out those entities we cannot see except with spiritual eyes. Also it is interesting that Swedenborg himself was bound by time and place as per his own visions, so saw sheep (if I am correct) and people looking and acting like 18th century folk. This in itself corroborates what he says about understanding deeper truths dressed up in what we can grasp or understand.
@offTheLeftEye6 жыл бұрын
I love how you are open to these kind of perspectives! Yes, I think more and more people are becoming open to the possibility of life and things existing in other dimensions, thus actually being there even if we can't see it with normal physical sight. I'm so glad you enjoyed this episode!
@harlanlang65566 жыл бұрын
Our current knowledge of physics also opens up the understanding that what we perceive as solid reality is in fact not solid. Solidity is sort of an illusion that we all share. Everything is composed of atoms which are in themselves empty spaces with electrical charges. This is all real but invisible. In our physical form we are able to tune into the vibrations of the physical universe, but we know scientifically that this is but a small part of reality. Scientific experiments and mathematics has opened the door to this expanded understanding. NDEs also open the door to a much wider vision of life and reality. So we won't know the possibilities of life on other planets from a scientific standpoint until we reach a more mature understanding of life in all its dimensions. This may be a never-ending journey of discovery.

I love that perspective, Harlan. Be open to ongoing discoveries that may be beyond what we can comprehend right now!

What another terrific show!! You all make learning something new about Swedenborg and Life look easy and fun! and like the Lord, you work hard at reaching us where we are and with what we like such as movies and TV - thanks so much for all your efforts! This week I was back at mulling over your question on connecting with others, as it seemed more important the more I considered it. Here's what I came up with: I need to keep my practice and meditation simple in order to stay focused on the goal of living the Way. As I continue to define what is for me the central challenge to loving others as myself I continue to consider the question of connection to others. The question concerning connecting with people is essentially about connecting with difficult people - for as He pointed out - what do we gain, what improvement in our character do we see, what challenge do we face, when making easy connections? Getting to heaven (eventually) means in part getting away from "difficult" people. We leave behind those who want to be difficult, choose it, live it. We also distance ourselves from good people who are different from us - for heavenly happiness is being nearest to those with whom we enjoy a great deal in common - and who are therefore not "difficult" for us. Quite the opposite and this evidently makes for heaven's happiness. But here and now we are are all mixed together, being 'tares' for some and some being 'tares' for us. So in thinking about the way it is (or maybe the way it must be to find out who we are really, deeply) I thouhgt about the need for what i have labeled extreme empathy. I feel challenged to develop extreme acceptance of, or empathy for, those different from me. I see the earthly Lord Jesus seeing the commonality in our human condition - we are all born as someone's precious child, we were all once innocent children, we are all meant for salvation and heavenly happiness, we are all meant to help each other reach heaven - and know heaven now, here, as we work toward bringing his heavenly kingdom to earth. I find developing extreme empathy is the core of loving our neighbor as friends and family - and essential for connecting with those "difficult" different people.
@offTheLeftEye6 жыл бұрын
What a profound message! I'm truly touched by your development in thought, from a confession regarding the challenges of connection, to a spiritual solution in light of the qualities of heaven. Empathy is a huge asset in relationship-building, especially during times of friction with others. I have to say that you've left me with a lot to think about. I feel blessed by your presence here, Mary!
@maryvalentine49246 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you thinking what came to me from the Lord is helpful. After working through this idea I have felt much happier, and very centered and calm. I have felt a change in confidence when the bad guys try it on in my thoughts, and I feel freer and closer to the Lord like pursing empathy and sympathy is a really good idea. And it keeps me in a positive mind set; helping me stay away from anger, feeling put upon, feeling the victim when someone "takes it out on me", etc. - and feeling "in control" which to me is really saying I am being led by the Lord. I am so grateful for a venue where I am challenged to think about questions that had not occurred to be before.

Ha, I totally honor the scenario you presented. The essence of love, according to Swedenborg, is to love another outside of oneself (person to person, God to humankind), to become one with them (humankind and heaven becoming one, people growing closer in friendship or marriage), and finally to render the other blessed. It's an amazing formula that rests on freedom in order to be validated.

Hi Curtis, I have been listening to you for a long time now. You said something quite some time ago that I can't shake. Things have really changed in my life over the last year or two. Could I be dead? Could I have left my human body on Earth and don't know it? You said it's possible. How would I know? Am I crazy? So much of the things you say make sense to me and things have just changed so much that I wondering if that's it. Please tell me. Thank you. Oh, and I could see myself not moving on in fear that my adult son needs me and my love for him.
@offTheLeftEye6 жыл бұрын
I'd be happy to help you navigate this situation. To start, if you have passed on, that means I have also passed on (we wouldn't be able to chat like this otherwise). So, my initial response would be that you're not dead and very much still in the natural world. Here's another more specific nuance that may help you: babies/children that have passed on earth go straight to heaven. If an adult passes, they would most likely enter the world of spirits, the place in between heaven and hell. If you see babies or children in life right now, or have recently, that means you're still in the natural world. I hope that helps!

Dreams! I like to think of them as being the language of imagination. When I dream I am in dialogue with my imagination. I also like to think of God as my imagination, as was Creation the first act of Love through which I in turn learned how to create. So, how does God reach me personally? He reaches me through my creativity, through the heightened sense of my Highest Self as I engage with His spirit. Suffice it to say, without my creativity, I might not have realized the existence of God in my life so readily as do I now acknowledge everything of any good that I have ever done serves as testament to my belief and faith in Him.
@offTheLeftEye6 жыл бұрын
What a blessing such creativity can be. I'm often awestruck at the human potential for creativity, simply because each effort is a reflection and testimony to Divine Goodness. Swedenborg noted that all beauty is from good, and all good comes from God. Hence when we engage in our creative/imaginative faculties (with good intentions), we open ourselves to receiving the Lord's essence into heart and mind.
@PhillipLWilcher6 жыл бұрын
" ... when we engage in our creative/imaginative faculties, we open ourselves to receiving the Lord's essence into our heart and mind." Yes. We enter an arena of Life much larger than self to engage with the truth of who we are, and of whom we are is the Truth of God. Without God, nothing of any good can be. Blessings, friend.

How does the idea that all paths lead to God reconcile with what God's Word says in John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."?
@offTheLeftEye6 жыл бұрын
It's a great question, and I'll share with you what Swedenborg learned. Swedenborg does assert that the Lord Jesus Christ, the manifestation of God, is the one who leads everyone to heaven, and also is the Divine Human form of God that we can actually interact with and relate to (because we cannot fathom or approach God's inner Divinity directly). HOWEVER, it is not necessary to be an earthly Christian, having an intellectual idea of Jesus Christ, to be interacting with him. Everyone of any religion who is living the kind of life that Jesus taught and demonstrated-a life of service, compassion, integrity, etc.-is actually bonding with him whether they are aware of it or not. And people who live good, useful lives in non-Christian religions actually have a better bond with the Lord than Christians who profess a belief but don't live it. So, Jesus is not concerned with the intellectual beliefs people live by, but instead his is concerned about what kind of life the person is leading. Here are a couple of passages that reflect that: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’" -Matthew 7:21-23 And notice this one describes "all nations" being gathered before him, meaning, people from all walks of life, from all faiths: “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’ “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”-Matthew 25:31-46

One way to understand this is that Jesus was addressing the people of His time. At that moment He was the Way. The millions of people who lived before Him had a pathway to the Father if you believe in a God Who cares for every human being. All religions follow a Person they believe to be a Manifestation of God, a Perfect Mirror reflecting the Light of God to mankind.

I think Swedenborg's humor is essential. Jesus also has/had sense of humor, that also is essential otherwise one can go mad with earthly or worldly problems. In other words don't take life so seriously. It can make you old before your time. Jesus teaches us to take things in stride. And when things do happen that you can't handle he said "give them to me". Give all your care to the Lord, that's where faith comes in.

I love this view, Shara. Yes, a sense of humor really does "lighten the load", and help us remember that it's all going to be okay! We're all very loved, and being supported every step of the way. To have some laughs in the face of life's hardships takes away much of the negative power that wants to drag us down.

@offTheLeftEye6 жыл бұрын
All of us were created to be a unique expression of a particular feeling that originated in God. The core feeling belongs to God, but we each can choose whether to open up to that, or to cover it up and reject it. Angels are those who have chosen to shed all the lower-ego baggage and open up to the more pure, loving feelings and interests that come from God, and yet they choose how to express those loves, and so they are not simply robots taking orders, but rather are each partnering with God in a unique and joyful way. So, Swedenborg describes it as acting directly from God's love, and yet doing that consciously, by choice, so "as if from themselves."

A very serious question. How are we to think about the whole people on the moon thing?
@offTheLeftEye6 жыл бұрын
That's a tough one, isn't it? Here are some theories that readers of Swedenborg have had over the years, and you can take your pick: 1. Life on many other planets exists in a different dimension or frequency than we live in here on earth. (In the spiritual realm, people on higher levels are invisible to people on lower levels, so maybe the same thing happens in the physical realm.) 2. Swedenborg was mistaken about which planets these spirits were from. 3. These descriptions are supposed to be taken symbolically rather than literally. 4. Life existed on other planets in our solar system in the distant past, but not in the present, and Swedenborg was talking to spirits who had lived there long ago. 5. There actually is life on planets in our solar system, but that information is being hidden from most of the population.

The problem with having a 'deeper' view is you can open yourself up to competition of those who offer a different 'deeper' view. Gematria being so elusive, it can be easier to make new competing claims. That's part of the price for making it widely available, in the meat and milk market.

It always seems like your foundation tries to explain away Swedenborg's Christian concepts of divine sacrifice and judgment by saying he was only using metaphors and stories. "The Heavenly Doctrine also teaches that the Last Judgement was followed by the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, which occurred not by Christ in person but by a revelation from him through the inner, spiritual sense of the Word[51] through Swedenborg.[52]." "In Earths in the Universe, it is stated that he conversed with spirits from Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Venus and the Moon as well as spirits from planets beyond the solar system. From the 'encounters', he concluded that the planets of our solar system are inhabited and that such an enormous undertaking as the universe could not have been created for just one race on a planet or one 'Heaven' derived from its properties per planet." As with many enlightened teachers, I find truth mixed in with errors. People are imperfect filters. I was raised in the SDA faith. I can see that the prophetess who founded the church was influenced (even plagiarized) by Swedenborg. Her writings were famously exposed 35 years ago as plagiarized books from other authors. Swedenborg wasn't mentioned to the best of my knowledge.

Hi, David. In our show "The Last Judgment," kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5LEpYakqZWUnsU we make clear that this predictions really did happen in the spiritual realm, so, no we are not saying that they are only metaphors. The predictions are multi-layered, being both about things of the mind but also things that really happen in spiritual-world reality and experience. We are only saying that those predictions are not going to come to pass literally and physically on the earthly plane. And we respect your right to disagree with that! Our channel is here to share what Swedenborg wrote down, but then we expect every viewer to think it over for themselves. Yes, we know that all people are imperfect filters, and Swedenborg included himself in that.

Hi David! Plagiarized?
@davidwise34266 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I was referring to Ellen G. White, the prophetess who founded the Seventh-Day Adventist church. She wrote several spiritual books in the 1800s, claiming that she was under the influence of God. In the early '80s, Time or Newsweek exposed that huge portions of her books were plagiarized from other writers. As I read Swedenborg's writings, I see similarities with the Adventist beliefs, too similar to ignore, which tells me White took some of his ideas.
@Syn3rgy-DMS-HANZ6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for elaborating! Okay! I presented you with a rhetorical question, inviting you to remember... Propaganda can be useful when alleged claims of plagiarism (finite perceptions) is encouraged with a debatable mindset (fear & falsities). And it does makes sense to somehow gauge the effective use of an ideal you're seemingly willing to perpetuate (Tone). Unless it doesn't! Such is life! Seemingly confused with imperfection... Til it no longer is! May God continue to bless us all with non-plagiarized ideals. Without the need for the Lord to clarify any doubtful minds... Services provided through the Swedenborg Foundation. And then the morning sun appears... (:
