That intake is for a spread bore carb. You're running a 4150 series square bore Holley. You're going to need an adapter under the carb or the secondary butterflies will not work correctly and might even jam on the intake. The high idle is probably caused from a vacuum leak in your hoses or more than likely on the carb base. Take some starting fluid and spray around the base of the carb and all your vacuum lines while the engine is running and if you hear the idle change then you've found the leak. The popping and backfiring is a dead give away that it's lean and more than likely it's from the leak.

Hey Matt just a little Tech tip don't use those glass fuel filters they have a bad tendency of leaking around the O-rings or just cracking blowing fuel all over the top of engine and burning cars to the ground also don't use the plastic ones either even though they're nice to see how dirty they are the heat from the manifold and the engine can melt or warp it also causing a leak always use steel filters

@@Logan-pi8pr well he wasn't doing anything to crazy then but rings can get caught on stuff and "deglove" your finger AKA rip off your skin. Like imagine dunking on a basketball goal and your ring gets caught on the rim. Happened to Jimmy Fallon actually!

I know I'm late but you need to adjust the secondary butterflies with the little screw under the secondary shaft behind the choke on the passenger side. Then you can use actual idle screw and mixture screws to fine tune.

Not a double pumper, it's a vacuum secondary carburetor with duel fuel lines. Good carburetor for every day driving. Might want to check float levels and air mixture screws. Good video.

No mistaking that Chevy starter! We had a 1972 chevy pickup (my dad bought it new) it sounded exactly like that. I would still have it but it was a long bed.

I believe that you have the vacuum advance hooked up to manifold vacuum instead of ported vacuum. You need to bypass the thermal vacuum switch and hook directly to ported vacuum.

Matt if u haven't figured it out yet a way to counter the high idle is move your distributor. It will most likely solve the back firing issue too. Good luck to ya

Hey Matt -- make the AC guy put in solid ducts .. the drag of the corrugated internal surface, over long runs, will result in lower than optimal flow .. yes, i expect it will be zoned with several boosters .. but solid ducts, bro

Be careful glass filters have had a lot of seal failures. Known for leaking breaking and catching fire. Check for vacuum leaks can cause high idle
