I was working as a Weapons Instructor in Sydney, when the 'buy back' was conducted. Not only did I lose my own firearms collection but I watched the piles of guns as they were butchered and sent off to a smelter. The people involved had no regards for historic or financial value. It was all about politics. No laws relating to the use of firearms in the commission of crimes were enhanced to punish crooks. Just honest people who liked firearms.

Funny that you say that.. I'am old enough to remember the very first Truedope. And I think I recall hearing something like that in the distant past. I also recall hearing many Canadians who moved out of Canada. Speaking to me back in the 1990s. I remember them telling me to get out of Canada. Because it WILL NEVER ever change. They said you want the change? You have to move out! And I did move out... Had to move back because of the "wife". I do regret moving back to Canada. Those who told me to move out were right. I'm also Canadian, and our government totally misses the mark when it comes to guns (and even airgun replicas). It's a well-known fact that criminals that use guns to commit crimes don't follow ANY gun law. But it's just politics trying to appear to do something against crime. These new gun bill revisions (which to my knowledge haven't been passed yet) also include a section that stipulates that all airguns that are made to resemble real guns will also be banned (airsoft plastic pellets, BB steel pellets, and "lead" pellets). It won't be illegal to own one, but you won't be allowed to sell, buy, or use them. Politicians are such hypocrites and liars. I own a Umarex P08 Luger steel BB replica with blowback action, that looks pretty convincing, even down to the action. I'll be darned if I can't enjoy shooting it for backyard plinking fun on weekends because of some stupid gun law...

The date on top of the chamber is 1939 and the acceptance and proof marks are faintly visible. All the serial numbers match. The checkered grips on my luger are still intact but the color has considerably faded. I had no idea there were so many lugers in Canada. Your description of Canadian law isn't correct, the barrel length requirement is: "more than 105mm", which is 4.17" PPs are prohibited. .25 and .32 is also prohibited, so that doubly bans a lot of PPs. The usual thing is to replace the barrel on a Luger with a Dlask 106mm barrel, I've never seen one replaced with a 6-inch although I'm sure someone has. The 7.65mm Para ones have long enough barrels usually. You can own them if you had one prior to the ban date in 1995 and transfer them to other pre-95 owners. The reason PPs and HSCs were never common in Canada is principally because you generally can't own a handgun for personal protection, so only collectors were interested in them. A Luger is more useful for target shooting so they're more popular.

Correct, if it was 4 inches P10c would be legal without threaded barrel. I believe with the threading it is 4.25" not sure mm

@steven-k. 2 жыл бұрын
@@chronicdose the question I always have is: who has ever made a .25 with a barrel longer than 105mm? There are a few . 32s but nearly all of them are exempt from the ban by name. In Mexico anything more than a .380 or a . 38 Special is banned, so the only centrefire semi auto handgun I can think of that appears to be legal in all three countries is the Browning 1911-380. Walther GSP? Not many. If gun control made any sense, wouldn't they at least have a similar definition?

My father had a nice WWII Luger that he took off a guard in Dulag-Luft XIII after his Lancaster bomber was shot down over the Ruhr valley. I grew up shooting it, and he gave me his long guns as he became increasingly infirm. He hung onto his handguns, and, after I gave him hell for still driving after he’d been declared legally blind, gave it to a farmer friend of his, and didn’t tell me who. As a result, not only was this nice little pistol lost to me forever, but I lost the chance to legally own firearms labeled as “prohibited” under our arcane firearms system. I have a decent collection of restricted handguns, but a short-barreled Luger will forever be illegal for me to own. Interestingly, the RCM Police’s service pistol, the Smith 5946 is officially a prohib firearm - the barrel is 2mm too short.

Am I just _so_ elderly and cynical as to suspect that many if not most of these items will _not_ be handed in for summary execution, but will either find their way into buried sewer pipes, steamer trunks in the attic, or, wander across the thousands of miles of border that are little more than lines on a map?
@This_is_my_real_name

PS: I'm old, really old, so my mind wanders. So please indulge my questioning speculation -- and if anyone has an answer, please speak up! What is the difference between a WW2 bringback that's come out of an American attic, and one that's come out of a Canadian attic, which then walked across the border? I am not advocating such hideous activities, of course. It's just that I can't wrap my mind around the notion that such things DON'T happen. "Wow, look what I found while going through Gramp's stuff! He never said _anything_ about this before he died!" "Oh, dear! It was never registered! Now it will have to be _destroyed!_ I sure hope it doesn't walk down to the end of the block and cross the street into the USA where it'd be a perfectly legal WW2 bringback. If _that_ happens it'll _never_ be rightfully destroyed!" Does that happen?

Isn't it bad enough that WWII destroyed so much history? So much architecture. So much art. So much cultural heritage and history was destroyed. It is unconscionable that we continue to destroy history so many years later. Obscuring history dooms us to repeat it. Such things should not be the sole territory of dusty museum closets, they should remain in the hands of the People. There should not be just a few remaining examples that we can't touch. We have young people that commonly don't know what WWII was at all. This is our collective living history. Especially today, when so many issues are socially and politically polarizing. We need to know, understand, and feel what history teaches us. Our younger generations seem to be losing grip on that. It's not one person, not one leader, not one political party, not one group that is responsible. It is a cultural evolution. Even those of us that support the cause must ask ourselves what we can do better or more, how have we contributed to that which we stand against. My father was a military arms collector, his extensive collection was sold off as a financial matter in a divorce for an embarrassingly low price. He never bought another gun except the one he taught me with when I was eight years old. I am fortunate to still own that gun almost 50 years later. As these guns are destroyed the value of the remaining guns goes up and they become less and less accessible to the common man. I am a collector, I have disposable income, and I don't own a proper Luger. I probably never will, and neither will my son. That would have been different if I had inherited my father's collection. I am reduced to being a spectator and watching videos on KZbin. I still have vague memories of my father's collection. The only thing that remains is a single bayonet that is in my possession. As a child I hid it. As an adult I gave it to my father, he cried when he saw it. He told me about the rifle it went with. I inherited that bayonet when he passed. The tragedy of what is happening regarding the defacement and destruction of firearms via thoughtless laws and regulations is unconscionable. I am personally aware of a collection in the US that was confiscated by the police without just cause. The owner fought in court and won but the collection was already (allegedly) destroyed so he was reduced to suing for the value, which only recovered a fraction of his loss. A number of those firearms turned up years later in the possession of the families of police officers after the officers passed away. They were stolen property and were not rightly returned to their owner even after they were discovered, they were again allegedly destroyed. These laws and regulations are a mess and the administration, execution, and enforcement of them is a mess.

“Don’t change the barrel, it wrecks collector value!” Then has it import stamped 😆 at least they will be safer south of the border than up in Canada! Also, for decades Canada has been producing a supply of Lugers to go south because in the war Canadian vets were not allowed bring back souvenir guns, so the k98’s and other long guns couldn’t make it in, but Lugers and other handguns could be tucked away nicely. Although I understand they would scare the guys before letting them off the troop carriers on the way home, and as a result many pistols ended up on the ocean floor as the ships waited in harbour.

If it's a war luger. Then how can anyone tell who brought it here U.S or Canadian soldiers and not all were registered. So why not smuggle it in to the United states.

@@andrewallen9993 Secret compartments. Or hidden in a dirty diaper bag ( wrapped up in plastic of course ) gorilla tape it to the undercarriage of the car ( a heavy triple tapping just to start with ). But there's always a way. If they can smuggle drugs then someone should be able to get a gun through.

She I was forced to have my Mini 15 taken and destroyed. I witnessed a Walther PPK with wood grips and a swastika on one side and SS runs on the other, also a leather holster and extra magazine, all were destroyed.

Can i trade in my Luger with one that has a longer barrel by you?
@CanadianPenguin_

BY CANADIAN LAW THESE LUGERS WOULDN'T REQUIRE BEING DESTOYED sorry for caps but wanted to draw in attention. These lugers were put under prohibited class because of the barrel length, if you owned one befor the law was made you'd get it grandfathered onto your license allowing you to own any hanguns with barrel lengths less than 105MM called a s.12(6.1). Now if die with one of these handguns the first option for the inheritor is they can get a s.12(7) added to their license which allows them to inherit any prohibited handguns if it was made befor 1946.The second option is take it a dealer, a dealer could own it or sell it to a museum, movie prop company, and any person with a s.12(6.1) or s.12(7) attached to their license then of course as he said barrel swap to longer one making it be treated as a normal handgun. I think we should be keeping these lugers in Canada even if we have to swap barrels because we shouldn't be whittling down our supply of cool historic collectibles and sending them to a country that allready has alot more cool collectables then what we have.

Also as a side note handgun mags are capped at 10 rounds but luger snail-drums are exempt and can keep their original 32 round capacity.

How much would it cost for a US Citizen to import a Luger? What is the process? Can it be done by a Citizen or does it have to be done by an import/export dealer? Speaking of import marks, I've purchased several Makarov that were marked on the underside of the trigger guard, or similar non obtrusive location. Have you thought about taking deposits on 500 or so of these, with balance due upon arrival to the US? You, of course, would get a "finders fee" for handling the import. Deposit would be returned if the import failed to go through. You are trustworthy, sometimes I can't say about some dealers.

Pretty complicated but has to go thru a Canadian exporter, to dealer in US. And yes, that could be Legacy Collectibles. Cost is at least $200.

I am a Canadian, and proud of it, but owning a firearm here (in Canada), our unhonorable selfie loving leader doesn't treat me as a Canadian, I've been collecting military firearms for 40 years for my retirement fund, and now that I'm 67,he basically said F-U to a lot of us!! I guess growing up in Ottawa as a very protected child, he never learned what it is like to grow up as a Canadian with a pellet gun as a kid,and learning responsabilities that go with it, and the fun of shooting and collecting firearms are totally out of his grasp!! On another note, thanks for the great videos, and understanding your friends to the North are in deep doodoo with this bonehead at the controls!!! Cheers!!!
