Right? I it’s the best. Nearly every set I stain has at least a little java. I’m a java junkie.

You should do a video on your US Cutter. I would be interested in how to make the decals and the software for it. Keep up the good work!!

Hunter and I, who share this channel, have different cutters, different software, and completely different approaches to designing. Thinking of a compare and contrast methods video.

Yes please do this! I just bought a US Cutter SC2 but have to use Sure Cuts A Lot because I have a Mac. I’m still trying to figure out how many stencils to make for colors without wasting a lot of vinyl. It’s a lot to learn!

Hi Gary, I just completed staining boards using your technique for the 1st time. I don't make enough to justify a cutter so I hand cut the stencil but would love a cutter. This is also the first time I used oil based stain (General Finishes Gel, Nutmeg and Java) You commented below that it's ok to use the waterbased Pro Finisher, but my question is, do you use a (Parks) Sanding Sealer first, or go straight the Pro Finisher on the stain? Also would love to send you the pics of the boards. Where can I post those. Thanks, Dave

Hey David... no Gary in the collective yet (but we’re excited to get one 😜). Congrats on the first set! We just started the group “cornhole collective” on Facebook where we have a growing network of supportive builders sharing every day. That would be the perfect place to share!!! Hand cutting is brutal but we’ve felt that pain. You may consider buying stencils from a fellow builder to save yourself a bunch of time and allow you to perhaps do another set in the time you save, but once you’ve done it a couple times it quickly justifies just buying a plotter. As for the parks, we go straight to poly after the stain has fully dried (24 hours for most shades and 48 for black). Hope that helps and we’re stoked to see your work!!

@@cornholecollective7116 LOL, don't know where I got Gary from. I think my request to join the group has been granted so I'll post the pics there, thanks. Finding another builder to cut the stencils did occur to me, and do you know of anyone or a way to find someone with a cutter if i provide the vector file(s). I provided a vector file and got a quote from "FastSigns" that was $125 per board, 2 (2x4) stencils, and I even said i would weed it. Regarding waiting longer for black, does that include the color Java or just pure black? Thanks again.
@cornholecollective7116
@cornholecollective7116 4 жыл бұрын
Wow that’s crazy! Yeah if you provide a vector you should get a builder to make for a super reasonable price. The benefit beyond price is that a builder uses the vinyl you want, and understands what you’re doing. A print shop will likely sell you something permanent that will damage the wood or leave residue behind and have no clue what you’re doing to help advise. Feel free to DM me (@burlybags on Instagram) if you have trouble finding someone. As for drying it’s just black. For some reason it takes longer. Unless you choose to lock your stains with aerosol poly as with our “poly over” method As for the group, I see you’re in... welcome to the collective David

@@cornholecollective7116 Thanks. Actually Brent Snyder commented on my post in FB and said to DM him in messenger. He offered really reasonable prices to cut. apply transfer tape and ship so i will go that route next time.

It looks like you use Pro Finisher (water based) over your Gel Stains (Oil Based) but I always understood you can't put water based finishes over oil stains. How do you do it?
@cornholecollective7116
@cornholecollective7116 4 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, it was a hard thing to try, being one of the most fundamental rules, but it totally works. We wait 24-48 hours after stain, and the water based works beautifully. It’s surprisingly a super popular combo used by nearly every single builder in our group and that we follow on IG.... I’m surprised it’s not questioned more often actually

@@cornholecollective7116 Thanks for the tip. What about when you add the aerosol Varathane WB spray finish to seal in the stain so you can stain over, do you also have to wait 24-48 hrs for that step?

Curious to hear your thoughts on the High Performance top coat. I've used and love the Arm R Seal finish, but that may not be the best for cornhole boards as it can yellow over time.

I’m pretty new to woodworking and finishing. Early in the video you mentioned “mix all”, “mixal”, (not sure the product spelling) for creating your own colors. I have searched, but not found this product. Can you provide a correct spelling, or link to the product?
