The irony is that all of these villains should theoretically be able to kill Ethan in seconds, especially when he gets overpowered or overwhelmed, like with Miranda's daughters, but then their attacks suddenly stop going through his flesh when he blocks, and even when they do, it's dramatically less effective than it should be.
