Why would it be cheating for Danya to look at an opening book? Ordinarily what he's doing would be considered sandbagging and it's against the website's fair play policy, but this is a speedrun and the opponents get their rating refunded. Honestly, I don't see why it would be wrong for him to just use an engine during the game if he wanted; though it might make the videos less interesting.

I agree. I don't enjoy watching engines compete against each other, as they calculate at such a high level, it's almost impossible to tangibly understand their "thought" process. On the other hand, watching a GM explain their ideas as they battle an undefeatable machine, is really invaluable.

"Our opponent taking his time on fxe6, good stuff" "I have a very, very strong feeling that we're going to lose this game" Love how Danya handles cheating, much more refreshing than me yelling at the screen IRL lmao. Also I like how Danya points out that this guy isn't just a cheater, they're a shameless cheater. They don't even try to hide the fact that they're using an engine, which indicates they're probably not a very good player who could mix in human moves to throw you off. You know it's a red flag for a computer when they outright ignore threats with some calm improving move turn after turn, or happily jump into long exchange sequences knowing all the intermezzos beforehand. It's always fun flagging these types when you can, and extra fun if they actually start playing rather than just let time run out and try to keep up the charade. Then you get to see what they're actually made of, and usually they lose completely won positions instantly. Sadly Danya didn't have the time here.

I kind of find it the opposite in that the cheater videos aren't very helpful. Since regular folks will never reach the level where they'll seriously try to compete against an engine there's a lack of practical examples shown in the game where you can apply it to whatever your level is. And you can see Daniel has no time to explain anymore as the engine mercilessly move every couple seconds which hampers the effectiveness of a speed run video. I mean, sure it supports the idea that small inaccuracies lead to losing but this only applies when the gap is this huge.

People consider games against an engine a "waste of time" - it's not. It can feel extremely demotivating but if you'd only play against an advanced engine with a stoic mindset, you'd still improve your chess significantly. I actually like playing against an engine (not max strength but high) in *slow* time controls, where I have a high change of losing if I'm not very accurate.

I did some analysis on the line, white can push for more than a draw after Ng4 with 1. Bc5 Bxc4 2. Qxc4 Qb8 3. b4 Na5 4. Qb4 dxc5 5. Qxa5 b6 6. Qa4 with the threat of playing Rd7, putting pressure on the bishop and thereafter Nd5 to put even more pressure on the bishop, forcing the bishop to the passive d8 square. It is for this reason that black must play 6...Nf6 to prevent Rd7, whereafter we can play 7. Qc4 with a solid hold on the d5 square.

Another fantastic chess experience with Daniel. Good show at the big show in Madrid. You and Hess is a perfect team., By the way, Did the Banned take place? Sometimes an engine player is reported without any action or communications! I am wondering, how many players get reported for using an engine and what percentage is banned. A useless question? Chess professionals have too much to lose to risk cheating while a Joe Blow gets a thrill to play a GM and see them fall to an engine. With so many other websites to play chess available, the engine player moves on to another scam. Imagine being banned across the WEB on chess sites that offer challenges. Talk about putting up barrier to scam playing! Is that even possible?

@@kidthump No you see, when you're 500 blitz and the opponent makes 7 blunders in a row to get checkmated, it's quite easy for every move to be the best move. It's considerably harder to achieve at higher ratings for obvious reasons.

I've played 1000s of games on here, and only for sure encountered a cheater just once. Am I too low level to encounter cheaters (approx 1500, a bit lower in blitz), or am I just not experienced enough to recognize it?

I like the games against the cheaters because the theory and play are really out there and it teaches us tactics when you review the games. Cheaters suck though, they should keep it in unranked only then maybe everyone wouldn’t hate them

I guess cheating in chess is easy comparatively to other online games since all you do is fire up Stockfish. It’s still wild to me that you’d want a bot to do everything for you. Like at that point, why even log on.
@kruksog
@kruksog Жыл бұрын
Exactly. I've never understood it. I've certainly been tempted to open stockfish in a super sharp position (never have, mind you) but to let the engine play the whole game for you? What's the point? Yea, you "won," but talk about a hollow victory. It just doesn't make sense to me.

How is it easy when you get insta banned after they analize the game an how perfect all your moves were. I think it would be pretty hard to cheat with engine and don't get caught but maybe it isn't idk
@thomasmergener6666
@thomasmergener6666 Жыл бұрын
@@mysteriousdoge1298 thing is you dont really need to play perfect moves with an engine. An engine gives you a list of legal moves and their scores, you will win as long as you pick moves with scores that are good enough. Id say you can even make some inaccuracies on purpose because you can simply trust that an engine like stockfish will be able to revert most situations against virtually any human. One of the main giveaways for engine usage is the cheater’s time management tho

I am convinced that cheaters only exist to piss people off. Why cheat in a game? They didn't even work for the victory they gained. It's a shallow one. A win you can't be proud of. The only reason for wanting to cheat in a game is, because the cheater believe that they deserve a victory without effort. No one else should win against them, and the thought of anyone winning against them pisses them off. So they work to stroke their damaged ego. The cheater isn't playing to have fun or enjoy the hard work of improve one's skill. No, they have a weak mental and can't stand the hard work the comes with it, and a shallow pointless victory is enough for them. Cheaters are the worst.

Is this true for you or in general? And do you agree with his advice, that a novice should turn that off if you want to get better at calculation? Thanks.
