I got to see Derek in 3 incarnations: Playing slide with the Allman Brothers, with Clapton on his world tour where he recreated all of Dwayne Allman's slide work for Clapton doing much of Derek and the Dominos Layla album, and with his wife in the Tadeski and Trucks band. He started so young, and never deviated from being super competent.

I didn't see him with Clapton, but have seen him with 4 bands - the Allman Brothers, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Derek Trucks Band, and Frogwings (his uncle Butch's side project from ABB for a few years in the late '90s).

Originally recorded by the great O.V. Wright for Hi Records out of Memphis, the same label that produced the classic Al Green soul masterpieces under the tutelage of Willie Mitchell. Another song co-written by keyboardist Charles Hodges (the Hodges brothers were the house band for Hi Records). This was Derek Trucks, the best slide guitarist living today, before he formed Tedeschi-Trucks Band with his wife Susan Tedeschi. Mike Matison is the singer, still touring with Trucks & Tedeschi. Thanks Dave and Harri.

An awesome piece hear that illustrates the sheer genius playing of Derek Trucks and company...The bands for these high caliber artists need due credit for providing the musical foundation that allows these artists to shine! Ty brother Harri

Other than the Allman Brothers Band, The Derek Trucks Band is my favorite of all time. Their live shows were otherworldly. They would literally cause me to have an out-of-body experience. Just amazing talent.

I am glad to see that this performance was very well received especially. Harri, I really enjoyed your review. For those who may not know, this was Derek's band before Derek before all of the players combined with Susan Tedeschi and some of her band members when Derek and Susan were married around 2001. John Chu gives a good summary in his comments. The featured vocalist is Mike Mattison who is an outstanding singer and songwriter. Nearly all members of this band transitioned as the core artists when Derek and Susan combined bands around the time of their getting married.

Actually, they didn't join forces for about ten years after becoming a couple. Their first album from the Tedeschi Trucks Band wasn't until 2010's 'Revelatory', which won the Grammy for contemporary blues. There are some fans from the original DTB and Susan's original band that have never quite forgiven Susan and Derek for dropping their other bands. I'm NOT one of them, even though I miss how tight the DTB was and the fact that they were a little more adventurous than the TTB. Still, musicians need to change to grow and I really appreciate what the TTB does.

RIP Kofi, gone waaaay too soon. Met Derek and his band at Syracuse jazzfest maybe 99’? Mike wasn’t with them then but the whole crew nothing but love. To this day, they carry the work on their backs.

Well this just put Monday in a new light. Oh, my. Derek on, the slide guitar is so phenomenal. He makes my heart reverberate. 💓💓 And yes I agree Harri, big shades of Joe Cocker from Mike Mattison. This puts the blues 💙 into a new level of perfection. Live just escalates your appreciation of such greatness. Glad you loved it Harri. I always agree with you. You're so enjoyable. Thanks Harri and Dave. Wonderful choice. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Mike Mattison is at his best here! He has been with the band since it's inception. Can't imagine the TTB without Mike. Great reaction Hari, as always....TY.

You are right about Mike's voice, one that grabs you and won't let you forget it. That's prob what Derek Trucks thought when he heard him singing at a subway station and hired him on the spot. True story. Maybee his best decision ever, aside from picking up the are and Marrying Susan Tadeschi tho, lol
