I've been telling my husband we should trellis our pumpkins, they would be healthier and take up less room. Do you have a video or tutorial on the construction of your tunnels?

Hey Bree..... I'm a little late to this video but I'm glad I watched it... I use my panels the same way you do for your squash. I did grow loofah this year I'm growing in Chicago land grow zone 5b. Those trellises do get very wobbly. The only thing that I have found that helps it if you're not worried about aesthetics is slamming at least two 5 foot t-post into the ground her cattle panel per each side... The higher you go with the t-post the more support you will have... I hope you try it and I hope you see that you will not have such a wobbly pumpkin tunnel
@Blossomandbranch2 ай бұрын
Hi! This is the first year she’s been wobbly because of our windstorm and the plastic on it taking flight this past winter. Otherwise it’s always been very stable even as a growing tunnel in off season! We can’t do t-posts as we cover it with greenhouse film from fall to spring and they would rub and rip the film :)

I love your videos Bri thank you so much! I hope your house renovation is going well and wrapping up before winter comes. As for pumpkin recipes my husband's favorite is Curry pumpkin soup. Which is saying a lot because he isn't a squash fan. I still make it because squash is 1. Affordable and 2. I really love it especially acorn squash. I struggled hardcore with my zinnias this year so I am super looking forward in your zinnia video. Sooo much fungal issues I have had here this season.

This sounds fantastic, thank you! Will have to try! As for the zinnias be sure to check out our growing tutorial on them too from this past spring!

Interesting stuff. This year, I tried a Milpa/Chaos garden mix to see if I could actually grow anything. It included pumpkins. Unfortunately, they all ripened by late July and the squash beetles wiped everything out. Nice seeing what pumpkins are supposed to do.

Love this. You inspired a 3 cattle panel greenhouse here in MA. I planted some lettuce kale and some other winter crops. Wish us luck when I cover it with greenhouse plastic 😆

So beautiful Thank you! love your tunnel so resourceful for so many more than pumpkins too! My dream oneday to have space and build a tunnel. Its so good to see those cattle panels are bendy for this purpose and they stick straight in the ground. Do they need any other supports than this?
@ForagingYourRoots3 ай бұрын
It's just the nature of the beast with those cattle panels eventually falling over with the wind. I only have six in my garden that have tall t-posts from TSC on each corner. And, I use them for something that weighs way less (yard long beans), but one of them still blew over in the wind. Those Galeux pumpkins look great though...such amazing work.

I’m impressed that they’ve held up for three years through heavy snow and rain with no problems!! Pretty impressive for how easy they are to construct!

You've opened my eyes to cover cropping. I planted winter peas a couple weeks ago and they are germinating and looking great. Question though, will winter kill it or will they still be green come spring? I'm in Boise, ID, zone 7. Also, if it survives the winter, do I just till it back into the ground before I plant vegetables in it's place?

Hi. Just curious as to why you don’t use 4-6 ft T Posts on your trellis for supports? We put in cattle panel trellis this year with those posts and it didn’t budge an inch. We’re doing another trellis next year to relocate loofah (side note; to do a different kind, one that that’s better for zone 6). Thanks! ~Janelle

Because then we can’t cover it for winter; the t-posts rub holes in the greenhouse film. The tunnel has held for four years without even needing shaking in snowstorms, our mistake was leaving one end open this last winter. :)
