I assume her legs are like that because she can’t produce enough pressure to extend them. If she’s got a break in her carapace, when she tries to pump hemolymph into her legs, it probably loses pressure so she can’t extend them properly. Poor girl, I’m sorry Petco :(

I think alot of newer people in the community that this happens which is unfortunate. Alot of people forget that bad molts often happen more in the wild than in captivity and we just cannot interfere with this delicate process. Please don't scream at creators unless they are dismantling a tarantula during the process. This happens it's not unusual for a tarantula or true spider to molt and the that molt becomes a bad one.

I doubt that enclosure humidity is related to the issue. It is usually not recommended to mist an enclosure to help tarantulas molt. What matters is that the tarantula gets enough hydration before they start the molting process.

Yes it’s true the spider can’t get moisture from the air, but Humidity affects the rate at which a tarantula loses moisture. It probably also affects the drying rate of the fluids produced by the spider during a molt. It is probable that the new carapace dried too soon, and became fragile. It’s also possible that the fluids dried too soon, before the old carapace was completely separated, causing it to stick to the new one, and eventually causing to rupture.

Before the molting process? As in like, the food they ate and the water they drank before that? I've been feeding mine superworms, but she hasn't really been drinking water, because she blocked the entrance to her coconut hide with substrate and won't come out to drink from her dish... All I can really do is to water and mist the substrate around the hide and hope for the best...

Just a thought about the webbing in the small enclosure. When I kept spiders as pets as a kid, to prevent them from webbing the lid I would always keep the containers upside down with the lid on the bottom. Since they normally web the top I could safely turn the container and drop food into their web without destroying it. Maybe an idea for you moving forward. Would need to affix the enclosure decorations in a way that it wouldnt move or spill though. Hope you can come up with something.

@bellowick7 ай бұрын
@@mixtaperadio Because there's no science behind it. For every instance of a T dying in a overly dry enclosure, there are an equal amount of them dying in humid enclosures. If you owned 100+ dogs, some of them are bound to become ill with something at some point. That doesn't necessarily make you a bad owner, it is just statistically more likely for something to go wrong when you have several of the animal. Tarantulas show when they are stressed, right? So if the environment was not correct for them (ie, not enough or too much humidity), they would show their stress long before a failed molt even has the chance to occur. We don't know if this tarantula was showing stress prior to the molt and it is only petko who knows with 100% certainty. Final thought, the average life expectancy of a human was lower BEFORE we were educated on various ailments, what causes them and having the right equipment to safely cure said ailments. The same applies here, until we know what causes ailments in tarantulas, the telltale signs of the ailment and how to deal with the ailement, we cannot expect tarantulas to live ailment free in captivity. If the tarantula appears to be comfortable inside of their enclosure and they fail a molt, it is an fatal incident, not poor keeping.
@sortfaar37 ай бұрын
@@bellowick also regarding the stress part. there have been previous cases of T's having issues in the dark den where they start behaving differently (i assume this is what you refer to as stress), and petko have made videos regarding these odd changes in behaviour. what i'm trying to say is that he has experienced these changes and have shared them with us regardless of if its a positive or a negative change. sometimes it is to ask us for help in case there are somebody with more knowledge and/or experience. Petko seems to me like a guy that cares for his pets and does neccessary research, and i'd like to think that cheeps (is he a crested gecko?), thor (leopard gecko i think) and 8 (his turtle) proves this to a certain degree. Felix and despacito both had genetic issues if i recall correctly and petko voiced his sadness and frustrations regarding the topic, but we have heard nothing regarding Cheeps, Thor or 8 simply because there is nothing to show. they are healthy, and they don't enjoy being on camera (well.. 8 is probably in the garden somewhere having the time of his life) and if they did enjoy being on camera then they'd likely get the same treatment as despa regarding enclosures.

Really sad. I'd hate to see her suffer for her last hours of life. Refrigeration seems like the most humane way for her.
@avanelletheclockfriend25157 ай бұрын
Freezing isn't actually humane due to how slow the process is; it just extends the time spent suffering while adding even more stress. The idea that "spiders get cold in nature so it just triggers hibernation mode" doesn't take into account that there is more to hibernation than just temperature(there are various other stimuli that trigger it), so the spider isn't going to have the same chemical signals going on, or exhibit the same behaviors. It'll just understand on some basic level "it is too cold I need to go somewhere not cold or I will die", rather than just going to sleep, effectively being aware that it's dying but unable to do anything about it. It's generally agreed that crushing(or piercing, like how you humanely dispatch lobsters and crabs) or ammonia poisoning are better. The former is best in terms of being the fastest and causing the least amount of suffering. The latter is slower but better for preservation and still faster than freezing or asphyxiation.

I have 30 Ts and snakes every evening I make sure they have water and have seen them drinking so many times. I don’t see why you can’t give them water in a bowl if you cannot provide this because you collection is to big then that’s the own fault It’s also no good having a water dish if it’s empty
