food for thought guys; I don't know if you seal the top and bottom as if only one could be the problem of warpage of countertop as the untreated side will take in moisture thus make tension. love your channel guys.

Both pieces curled up equally there is an icemaker on one side and nothing on the other and yet they were still even As well as inside a controlled environment thoughts?

What is the concrete curing on? Looks like laminated sheets? Anyway I think that's the problem, it's forcing all the moisture to the top of concrete. Just my thought 🙏

I love the look other than the big crack looking gap where the sink is , Have you ever tried to fill it , Or make them in place so that doesn't have to be there ?

You can't make them in place because they have to be polished and that uses a lot of water .

They are made upside-down to get an even flat surface so you cant make on place. Also the thin area around the sink would most likely crack anyways.

Very nice, what would the approximate price on that countertop be,. I showed the wife, now her interior design demon came out. Every time she watches HGTV my wallet takes a hit and now she has that same look in her eye. You would think I would learn not to show her stuff.

Nice job with the counter top, the only flaw I saw was the seem at the sink join. Tom is there anyway to have made that disappear? All in all the counter looked marvelous. Good job Tom.

I really like doing the countertops the seams are the worst part of the finished look we have tried a couple things but we always go back to the flexible caulk

Really cool process. I had no idea it was that many steps. What about the seam at the front of the sink? Is there any way to make that a bit smoother? Love the live edge look!

What do you do about the join line seen on the front face of the sink to the edge where the 2 slabs join ? That line looks a water, debris trap ?

Another example of why you, your son and your team are the best. Customer has a problem? You fix it. I would guess a countertop like that is at least $2k?? Competitive with other options? Just wondering.

TOM, the possibilities are endless, was just thinkin, is it possible to do inlays, (using rope, string, even a hot glue gun on the forms, then fill with colored crete, epoxy, metal flake, then sand,,seal, polish ? Yinz got the knack!

I am following your water problem a little bit not sure what the answer is there you’ll be happy to know the water we used at the shop comes from downspout collection barrels rainwater.

Great Video. Looks great. What sealer did you use? Is it a cure and seal? I recently did concrete countertops for my outdoor kitchen but I'm waiting on the 28 day cure period to seal them but by then it will be too cold to seal. Any advice?

We use a water-based sealer with lots of food say floor wax for protection I’ve tried Apoxsee‘s but they didn’t seem to hold up so well outside it didn’t make sense to me I’m sure I was doing something wrong but I’ve had good luck with the water-based sealer From Butterfield

Did the concrete shrink and warp, or did it it stay straight and the house settle unevenly?

The countertop shrunk and warped the mix on is very sensitive and we have to watch our water usage that is my guess what happened but just a guess

How strong is the surface? My wife wants concrete countertops but is very drop prone. Will the withstand glasses and pans being dropped, or will the top chip?

I know ceramic flooring holds up well,....but, plates and glasses dont. Ask my wife!!! Lol

They hold up fairly well I always worn I worry about the edges around the sink bringing in a cast iron skillet sliding over the edge could definitely scratch as well as Chip but they are very durable as well With that being said most of our countertops go in basement bars or Family room bars we also started doing bathroom vanities with building sinks we have that one coming up in a few weeks

I think I saw Sakrete 5000 bags in the video…is that what you’re using? Are you using any plasticizer or glass fibers?

No that was for some pier pads we had to pour. Steven‘s previous video on countertops he went over mix design our video is getting way too long

I would assume the advantage to a concrete countertop is that you can get far more creative in your shape, pattern, size. For example, why make it flat, when you can add recesses for the toaster-oven, and tv-stand, or blender, or dish-draining-rack ??

Gorgeous. Would love to have an outdoor kitchen with these! Question. Do you seal the bottom as well? Would the concrete top warp like a door that’s only painted on one side?

A couple other people of asked that same question we never seal the bottom my thinking is I didn’t want to trap moisture in there but I am going to check on that I believe it warped because it was poured too wet

Have you tried a rubber float. We used it to grout floors. I also used that to take the honeycombs out of the facing on stairs.

I don’t know whole lot about that the electrician put it in.it’s just LED stick up lighting not sure if it’s the same stuff but I did see it at Costco thanks for watching

Hi Tom, I know this is scary but I was thinking,..... Would heat lamps help the drying process so you did not get that warp in the concrete later like the counter top you had to replace, just wondering.

It’s best to dry the concrete slow so it gets stronger in 10 years this was the only one that moved on us

Why pour it offsite and do this additional polishing? Isn’t it better to just pour it on the bases and just trowel it and burn the top?

The majority of the time, our customers want a multi color finish. Doing it this way allowed us to do that as well as (in this case) polish it down so it’s as smooth as glass. We’ve tried poured in place and I wasn’t a fan of it so this is the way we do it 👍🏻 Thanks for watching!

Sometimes we use an epoxy based clear coat for the sealer. We don’t ever add any color to it tho.

That edge is CLASSIC, unlike the usual smooth edges we are accustomed to seeing on most other tops.
