Oh No! I broke the choke cable - KLR650

I went to start up the bike and run it for a while, when as I move the choke leaver (enricher valve), I felt the cable break. It had got moisture in the cable and corroded through.
Now the decision was to get a new cable, or to replace it with a cable eliminator.
I threw a message on facebook and a guy down the road piped up and has a cable eliminator, so I dove up to him and got it.

I saw where a guy did the same as you. On his, He unscrewed the plastic pull out knob and put very narrow fuel line on it to extend it further out so reaching it is easy. Reason for me coming across this thread. Bought a bike which stalls when turning right. Seller didn't know what was causing it. I noticed choke lever moved every time it stalled. It's either reroute my cable or do a remote choke. They are 9.00 Canadian with free shipping on aliexpress

My choke cable is fine but I like the idea of getting rid of the cable. Are you happy with it? Do you find it inconvenient to use the choke now?

I'm just reinstating my cold start back to OEM, such a pain in the arse trying to get to the tiny knob and having to wait until the engine will idle by itself.

If you were riding the bike daily, and in a cold climate, it would get annoying for sure.. Reliability in remote places is more important to me.

Been watching your vids off n on for years now and love em! Curious as to how many miles you have on the ole girl now? Any huge mechanical issues? Ever do the doo?

I have done around 26K Kms. I only ride it for trips, I rarely ride it around just because, and I don't commute on it. Except the issues earlier on caused by the dealers work, and the structural issues with the rack that I fixed, I haven't had anything really go wrong. I haven't done the doo. The doo on this model is better than prior models, so i hop it hangs in there.

So was the cable corroded out or fatigued? Which end, carb or handlebar? Probably something worth checking once in a while. Nice intro btw. 👍

Ken Pickett corrodes. Right in the middle. I’m guessing in a low part where the moisture would Sit.

What threads? this was fixed years ago when I took out the clearly broken (because of corrosion) cable and replaced it with a non cable solution..

I broke my choke cable elbow the first time I tried to remove it from the bike. I got the lil pull knob, like yours. Gotta reach under the bike to choke it but goodbye to the funny bone (elbow) of the KLR.

yep, its not as convenient, but you only use it once a day, and in Australia only in the winter..
