i played an IM who was born in 1948 in a recent otb tournament. I played him round one and i managed to get a draw which was a very good result, and i thought he might be a bit washed up, but then he went on to score 6/9 which is a very good score. I don't think he even lost rating even though he's far past his prime. in his prime he actually drew mikhail tal and beat boris spassky which is pretty crazy

Eric I appreciate you taking the time to do these. A glimpse of chess from you can make a steady gaze at many stressors seem to fade. I also would like to say I purchased an Oh no my queen sweatshirt and it makes me look so muscular 😂 I’ve gotten many compliments.

The mental fatigue and its effect on your ability to calculate is absoluetly real. I'm a parent of 3 young kids who sometimes wake up at night. I'm puzzle training alot lately. Last week i was consistantly hanging around 1900 puzzles, then i had a couple bad sleeps and immediately dropped 150 puzzle rating points and struggled to get back up above 1800 for awhile. This did not surprise me though. Having dealt with non sleeping kids for years, lack of sleep is absolutely a valid reason for mental performance dips.

I don't know if you were thinking about the GM title in this tournament since you don't often talk about your thoughts or plans for it, but whenever you do these videos, I quietly hope you'll stomp everyone in the hopes that some day you can be GM Rosen.
@vezquex Жыл бұрын
He's gotta get back to 2400 first. He'll need to be 2500 for GM. Not bloody likely.
@xxFortunadoxx Жыл бұрын
@@vezquex Then 3 tournaments with a performance rating of 2600 or greater against at least 3 GM's? There is zero chance this is happening. As far as I'm aware, IM John-Paul Wallace was the only person to secure a GM norm from this tournament, and he finished number 1 in the tournament. He's 56 years old, and while he now has 2 norms, his peak rating was back in July of 2006 where he was 2419. He was 30 years old at the time. It's safe to say that despite him doing extraordinarily well in this tournament, he's never going to be a GM, especially considering his age. Getting the 3 norms is hard, but it's a cakewalk compared to reaching 2500 FIDE.
@infinickel7423 Жыл бұрын
I believe in the announcement (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oarYnp2MjKuZjKc) vid he told he'd like to perform great and have one gm norm. Not this tournament, but it seems in general he considers the idea of title.
