Yes, I'm doing a Sawstop review but one with a little difference. I've had mine for 13 years so it has some miles on it. These are my thoughts and observations over those 13 years.

Thanks so much for a nice long term review and tips. I just picked up a 1.75 hp “professional” saw this afternoon and I’m glad to hear from a long time owner. Thanks again!

Appreciate your comments on the quality of the saw, aside from the safety features. Almost every SawStop review focusses almost entirely on safety - which is important - but I want to know if I'd be buying a quality saw. Based on what you said, it sounds like I would be.

Well said. And clearly convincing based on your experience. Sawstop doesn’t need a marketing department.

Good review. I had an accident like yours two months ago (no bones, only flesh ...), and the ridiculous thing is that my wife made me change the saw bench, just like yours! :DDD Unfortunately, sawstops do not arrive in Italy ... The only choice here is the festool TKS 80, which looks like the sawstop jobsite pro. Thank you for your time. Marco.

I just watched your video on the SawStop and want to congratulate you on a job well done. I cannot agree more on the quality of the saw. I had a similar experience about 18 months ago and needed 15 stitches. After I returned from the emergency room my wife confronted me and told me that I needed to get rid of the saw (1953 Delta Homecraft) I had and buy something safer or she was going to sell ALL the tools in my shop. I told her that it would be expensive and that there was only one saw on the market that was safer and that was the SawStop. She said the expense paled in comparison to reattachment surgery. She told me to order the saw configured as I wanted it and to order everything I wanted. I had followed SawStop for many years but raising children, time to do woodworking and the budget did not allow the investment. Being retired I had more time to spend in the shop and had saved some money so I purchased my SawStop. Best purchase ever for my shop I love it and spend a part of almost every day in my shop working on a project of some kind. Lately it has been tool boxes and toys for my grandsons. Having a great time making sawdust.

Nice job. I clipped the end of my thumb similar to what you mentioned about a month ago. My wife learned about SawStop and announced I had to get one. I should have it soon and I hope to be as happy with it as you have been with yours.

When originally shopping for a table saw, all the sales people spoke about was the safety feature of SawStop. I would always tell them, "I'm not buying a saw to 'not cut' my finger...I am buying a saw to cut wood. No one seemed to get away from talking about the safety feature until one day, a guy focused on the fact that if a saw is designed with such a safety feature that allows for a reset and use, it must be designed with a more robust trunnion and assembly. That makes cuts more accurate and consistent. I bought the saw and love it. By the way, a friend suggested that if I could possibly afford it (the saw PLUS electrical work), I should buy the 3hp version. I did that and don't regret it at all. I love the extra power!

Yeah, that's the thing. Great, it has the safety feature but how about it's a very robust, accurate high-end table saw. Marc Spagnolo (The Wood Whisperer) just bought, set up, and gave his first impression. He's been using a Powermatic PM2000 for twenty years and said the SawStop beats it in a few key areas. Check out the video on his channel.

Hi Kevin Love you review, I have had so many similar things with your saw like showing my wife the finger saving system to which in getting this saw. Just seen your video last night and noticed you said you can only use thin kirf blades do to the riving knife only supporting thin kirf blades, The riving knife is adjustable to accommodate full kirf blades very easily, I have the same saw for about 13 years too and my first activation was with my Incra miter gauge as well. I love my saw too! Have a look on page 62 of your awesome manual for aligning your riving knife, it is easy to do. Hope this helps Dan

I just read that section. Thank you now I know something new. I think it was Mark Twain said, and I think I'm paraphrasing here "a day you don't learn something new is a wasted day". I'm good with using only thin kerf blades but it's good to know if I need to I can change that. Thanks again.

Thanks for a great review. I love my Sawstop and I believe it will be my forever saw. I keep one of the used cartridges hanging on my shop wall as a gentle reminder to be careful. I have also have had to dig the nut out of the bottom of the saw more than once.

I have one hanging in my shop as well. If you put a screen in the dust shoot use a 3/4 mesh and check for buildup.

Its funny how someone told Gass ( sawstop inventor) that safety doesnt sell, and he was rejected by all the big name companies, turns out safety does sell, and is selling quite well. I am determined to buy one of these and only this one, especially after reading the sawstop underdog story.
@KRWoodworks
@KRWoodworks 3 жыл бұрын
Safety does in fact sell. The other guys were also afraid of liability. Turns out, if you improve the safety of your product too much, the lawyers git it in their heads your previous models are of course defective. I also followed the Gass story and wanted one from day one and I said in the video, it wasn't until I sold leave back to the company I was leaving that I could afford one.

When you say take off the safety features off do you take it permanently off or you are just putting it on stand by off every time you switch it on Thank you for the advice
@KRWoodworks
@KRWoodworks 2 ай бұрын
When you term off the safety system, it's only off for that cycle of the saw running. Once you turn the saw off, it automatically resets to safe. If you want to use it again without the safety system you have to tern in off again. There's no switch to tern it off, you have to hold the key turned to the right as start the saw and wait for the lights to stop blinking the let go of teh key.

I still don't understand why they don't just drop the blade. No need to ruin it. Bosch has a competing system in Europe that does it but they won't allow it in the US due to our patent system awarding ridiculous patents on technology from the 80s to Sawstop as exclusive.
@KRWoodworks
@KRWoodworks 3 жыл бұрын
Does the Bosch system stop and drop the blade in less than 10 milliseconds? Also, blades are not that expensive. Do you have a link to the Bosch system in action?

@@KRWoodworks kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGStpIh9rNmSg8k&ab_channel=ProToolReviews . I think SawStop's patent is expiring this year so we should see some other options for the safety feature in the coming years. That said, the SawStop is well built in other ways and I'd be happy to have one even if its safety feature required paying for new cartridges. Hopefully the competition will drive down prices.
