Daytime Soap Opera "GENERAL HOSPITAL" made this popular. The character Luke Spencer a Disco owner assaulted Laura Baldwin while this song played in the background. The two characters would later marry in the one of the biggest weddings on television in the 1980's. It would only be surpassed by the Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana! Other Alpert instrumental to be heard that followed were "Route 101" and "Garden Party". Saxophone player David Sanborn songs like "Bang Bang" and "The Dream" should be heard also. His saxophone sound is heard through out Rock like David Bowie's "Young Americans" and James Taylor's "How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You" and The Eagles "Sad Cafe". Also featured with Eric Clapton in the first 2 "LETHAL WEAPON" films.

Alpert is the only musician to hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 as both a vocalist ("This Guy's in Love with You", 1968) and an instrumentalist ("Rise", 1979). I think it's so interesting about Herb Albert And The Tijuana Brass is that from 1965 to 1973 in the USA they outsold The Beatles, Rolling Stones, every 60s band you can think of. But how often do you hear them now or how many folks under 50 even know who they are? At one point in 70s Herb Albert was the richest musician in the world because of his band and also his record label.

I don't know how many people appreciate the talent it takes to play a horn as well as Herb Alpert could. I played a bugle and a trombone (just capable of hitting the notes). What I always appreciated about Alpert was his unerring SMOOTHNESS. Even when he's tickling the valves at speed, the transitions are so smooth... Most instrumentalists seem to make hard transitions so as to accentuate their speed, but Alpert plays it down. I don't know if it was due to genius or simply an appreciation of what subtlety can bring to music, but I love it. I have been a fan of his music ever since I first heard him when I was a child, sixty-some years ago. Amazing musician.

A funny story I heard about this song is that Herb had been a record executive (he being the A at A&M Records) for like a decade and hadn't hardly played the trumpet. He had to go back and take some lessons before he could record this song. Even the greats need a little help now and then. His cover of This Guys in Love with you was a huge hit in the late 60"s were Herb sang. Quite a shock to people who grew up listening to his instrumentals.

This is one of my three all-time favorite songs! I first heard it on General Hospital. I think I was in the 6th grade. Such a beautiful sultry mesmerizing song! Two more great instrumental songs y'all might enjoy are Love's Theme by Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra and the Theme From A Summer Place by Percy Faith.

I was searching the comments for my fellow General Hospital watchers ❤❤❤ Unfortunately this song is associated with one of the worst incidents of this show. Can’t help but remember that awful scene from listening to this instrumental

Your right this was the song that was playing when Luke took Laura. My mom got me hooked on G. H. Back then I was a huge Dark Shadows fan.

@@BigCheifJJ Yeah, originally I had the word "haunting" in my comment because of the "rape" scene on the dancefloor. That scene was so confusing! Especially since they got married later on and were probably the most famous couple in daytime tv history. I was young at the time, but I thought she wanted to be with Luke. That show messed with a lot of people's heads!

GH ruined this song for me. I loved it prior to that- now, the minute the horn kicks in, it makes me uncomfortable. Haven’t heard it in decades….and I didn’t even recognize the name of the song, but the second it came on….cringe.
@robertlanier22352 жыл бұрын
I heard it on General Hospital when it was played when Luke and Laura's son Lucky found out what happened years later. He played it to get at his Dad when he asked him to admit to him what had happened all those years ago.

I am flooded with childhood memories of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. They were huge. My parents played them all the time! It didn't matter how old you were or what genre you were into, everyone loved them! I highly recommend you keep going with them! Loved this reaction choice! Thank you! 💙✌

Jay & Amber, You'll love Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass's "Lollipops And Roses", "Whipped Cream" and "The Spanish Flea"!!!! Every song on their Whipped Cream and Other Delights is GREAT.("a best of" album). The songs are great but too short! I have most of their albums thanks to my parents. At least 3 of their songs were used during different parts of the tv show 'The Dating Game'.

I used to listen to my dad's Rise LP over and over. One day in the 80s when I was a teenager I went to an air show. After the flight portion was over, my friend and I were wandering around looking at all of the cool planes. We even got to meet Pappy Boyington! As we wondered, the background music they started playing was Rise. Just as I turned to my friend to tell him I had just listen to that song that morning, I swear I saw Herb Alpert himself walk past me! That was an awesome day.

They played this on the soap opera "General Hospital" back during the time Luke and Laura were together. I think they were dancing in a department store and had to keep ahead of the security guard. I remember they carried this out to a commercial. 1983? or some where around there. GREAT INSTRUMENTAL. GREAT MEMORIES! Thanks for playing this!

I started this video thinking I probably wouldn't watch the whole thing. I just love some vocal to be part of a song, and sometimes it makes me closed minded. I've of course heard pieces of this. I forgot I was even watching a reaction video at first because I just closed my eyes and got into the music. Your pause jarred me out of it and reminded me that I was watching you guys lol. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing this tonight.

Going by Amber's shirt, check out "Star Wars" by Meco, which is an instrumental. It's disco, not jazz though. The album version is around 15 minutes long, but there is a 45 single edit that was played on the radio. Herb Alpert is the founder and co-owner of A&M Records. He's the "A" and "M" is his business partner Jerry Moss. Herb had a documentary not that long ago, maybe a year or 2.

No one millions of people had never heard of Herb Albert before until this song was released it became a number one hit then all of a sudden the millions of people that didn't know about her Albert bought the song and the album and he became super rich and people bought up all his older albums Herb Albert was a legend in his own right with type of music he played but that's strange just one song attracted an audience of millions of more people had never heard of them before you rarely hear about that my favorite her Albert song is called beyond that's a very good excellent song

Herb Alpert was one of my dad's favorite artists from back in the 60's. We don't get many pure instrumental hits anymore, which is unfortunate. Anything by Herb, Chuck Mangione, Chick Corea and the like you just can't go wrong.

As several others have commented, he is the A in A&M Records. He co-founded the company for the purpose of helping up and coming artists who were unable to cut a deal with the big record companies. He gave a start to many who might otherwise never have made it at all. The song you just listened to is one of his later ones, 1979 I think. You should try some of his 60's stuff, "The Lonely Bull", "Spanish Flea", "Tijuana Taxi".
