Every weekend. Couples skate break. I was a backwards skate date (driver’s seat). Didn’t think I’d miss those times so much, no thinking just carefree days grooving with the community, collaboration of people with music. I took my grandkids to a rink a few years back (night-time) and it was like being at a school gym class on wheels with an hour of limbo, tag, secret corner, speed drills, and raffle prizes; a DJ that played all genres of favorites and kept the house lights up; more shoes than wheels, no one brings their own beloved skates and about 95% of them looked like they’d rather be elsewhere. My heart cried a little bit, because they didn’t feel a tenth of what I felt at our roller rinks. The Joy.

How fortunate was i to be born in 1961, to be a teenager in the 1970's and in my 20's throughout the 1980's Two other Howard Johnson songs not heard often are. "Keeping love new" from 82, and "if you want it", where he sings with the group 'niteflyte'. Have a listen, you won't be disappointed.

Former lead singer of 70s male R&B group Niteflyte, who recorded a few albums that received good airplay on R&B radio stations. This song, released in 1982, came out a couple of years after Disco burned out and Rap started taking over R&B stations. Videos starting on MTV (that most only showed videos back then) came out a little over a year before this hit was released.

This is a classic 80s dance track - there are so many . Both my sister and I always danced to this - I can almost feel her sitting next to me. She was a massive fan of Kashif. I remember as we carried her coffin into the Chapel - The song was " Kashif - Lover come turn me on " it was the 12 inch Version and seemed to go on forever LOL - makes me smile to think about it . the power of music!

I believe he produced this song and wrote/produced many songs of this same flavor for Evelyn Champagne King (another great R&B artist) and others.
