And of course, freedom is what Jack values most. He values freedom with such intensity that as a sailor for the East India Company, he freed the "human cargo" that he was unknowingly charged with transporting by Cutler Beckett, leaving the service and starting the bitter hatred between the two men. His conversation with Barbossa in Stranger Tides is emblematic of his character development, no longer desiring immortality.

Finally when the crew goes against the world government, after Nico screams “ I want to live” the compass immediately points to the straw hats.

I feel like jack remaining without a fruit would be the most interesting play for his character. Especially if he knew the drawback of ocean-hating. Being an otherwise normal, lucky guy would be interesting in such a place as one peice, having to be smart and plan, as he does, of course without appearing to do so.

Jack is a tactical genius, insanely lucky, a master swordsman (top 3 in the series), has come back the dead, has killed the dead (somehow) on multiple occasions (skeletons, zombies, Davy jones and crew, and Salazar' and crew), has beaten the untouchable East India Trading Company, out planned gods (Calypso and Davy Jones), survived Blackbeard, tricked and killed Blackbeard, manipulated the Brethren Court successfully, and has survived being marooned twice. Even without a devil fruit or haki, Jack would run circles around these people.
