I just installed the Ohlins NIX30 carts in my '17 FJ09. Piece of cake. Used a couple of the inexpensive tools I have from changing springs on my '14 FZ09 a few years ago. Find a good tutorial on the forums, buy the few tools you need, and always have a manual for you r bike handy (Haynes are good and inexpensive). I did't need any of the proprietary Ohlins tools mentioned here. Save yourself time money, headaches, and maybe your life by learning to work on your own bike. Nobody takes as good of care with your stuff as you do. :)

i did my own on an mx bike.....ttx cartrige kit it wasnt too bad but lil different than streetbike (actually was bit easier than this)........have to say the ohlins was huge upgrade as i am sure it is with street stuff.......well worth the money imo, i wouldnt hesitate to use it even for street use

i just bought and serviced a set of the 98-02 i always service all mine differently ive always poured the oil out to measure the amount then once rebuilt mine easy to the parts £50 then further tools about £20 just for a service

If you do not have access to a service manual or tech documents for the cartridge kit in the forks you are servicing this would be another way to get the oil level. - Van

@@sportbiketrackgear sorry i found it easier my way for the simple fact was a pain in the ass to put the oil in it before putting all the parts off it measure the oil in again, i didn't have a tool to drop in to pull the tube out then screw it on, so i left oil out turned upside down then when it dropped a little i pulled it put it all together then then filled the oil slowly yes plus pump it around the system seems all good to me, ive never motorbike ones before but been been mountain bikes for about 20 years now and have to say some of them a lot harder to do especially the BOSS kit

You know the Ohlins NIX 22 Kit? It says "Easy to install".... Is this like the same install procedure for all cartridge kits? Cuz it ain't so easy.

IMO installing fork cartridge kits requires advanced mechanical skill. If you don't feel comfortable after watching this video I would send them in to get serviced. - Van

so I've got a question. I bought this cartridge for my FZ-09. NIX30. It came with a mounting instructions booklet and an owners manual. The mounting instructions say after I have installed the cartridge in the fork tube to first put the spring, then the preload tube and then the spring support. The owners manual says to install the the preload tube first then the spring then the spring support. Which one is correct? I called Ohlins but no response yet.

@@sportbiketrackgear I'm sure he does good suspension work with good outcomes. The top-cap 4 pin Ohlins tool is not expensive. Only a basic open end wrench or socket is required to turn the pre-load adjusting nut. Using channel locks in lieu of the proper tool is not professional. If he put channel lock jaw teeth marks on my top cap, I would not be a happy customer.

Yes you can. You are able to change what is called the "Cartridge" with an ohlins cartridge kit while keeping the stock out tubes. Good question.

Don't know where you're buying your special tools but the OEM tools cost no where near that. Kind of sounds like you might be driving customers to not do the work themselves.

The specialty tools to install Ohlins fork kits are available from Ohlins. With certain forks you will also need some specialty tools to get the OEM cartridges removed. We have some of these tools on the site and they are pretty reasonable. The reality is for most people best practice is to have the forks serviced by a professional. - Van

I'm just guessing thst "very fair" is not going to be very affordable lol lots of very fair prices are totally out of reach for most people....hey why not give a "for instance" since this is for a single model and a precise kit nix30....I mean it is a given there could be worn out parts that need replaced but GENERALLY there is no reason not to just quote "as of todays date yada yada" I just always assume a price is through the riif every time I have to practiclly pry a quote out of a business....just saying hey maybe I'm wrong? Ill be amazed but maybe?
