With the added factor that the initial Carter-Voracek trade was one of several moves that allowed the Flyers to sign Bryzgalov as a free agent, which was a huge part of why they ended up moving Bobrovsky. (AND that these trades were made when the Jackets were still in the Western Conference, but almost immediately afterward the division were realigned and the Flyers and Jackets ended up in the same division. Just to rub salt in everyone's wounds about it.)

@@honoratagold They moved bob because it became public knowledge that he won't be resigning with the Flyers due to the Bryz contract (the owner told the then GM to get a top goalie no matter the cost cuz they lost in the playoffs due to shaky goaltending, hence Bryz). He didn't see a path to being that #1 with them. When that news broke, his stock plummeted and the Flyers had no leverage anymore. They got what they could. It seemed that the Flyers intention was to ride Bryz while Bob develops, then trade one...big uuf there. To extend the tree, the two eventually made another trade, sending Steve Mason to Philly, who ended up playing decent for them for a few years until concussions killed his career.

I understand when your team wins 3 stanley cups in 6 years you want to keep your star players as happy as possible but you should do it smartly. I mean of course star players did major job to win those cups, but what was great about that chicago, is that they always had good depth players in all 3 cup runs. but after 2015 chicago gave too many huge contracts to their star players and it backfired because they no longer have room for depth players.

@@mathiscaty4408 Oilers scouts ranked Ryan Murray over Yakupov that draft, 9 of 11 scouts wanted Murray. Oilers brass didn't listen to the people who they employ to advise them on the who, instead they must of been watching TSN. Heard rumors here in Edmonton that Lowe vetoed the Murray pick. When asked after the draft about not picking Murray, he pointed at his cup ring and told the reporter "I have six of these, I know what I'm doing."
@mathiscaty44084 жыл бұрын
inneedofmedication would have been a better pick but still... Murray could have Turned out great. Still that the only player who is not a bust in the top 5 is Reilly, so I think that the blame should not be completly on The Oilers. Its like that Hishier-Patrick draft. They both seem like they are going to bust, both neither Heiskanen or Makar was an option at the Time.

Yakupov was the result of Daryl Katz's son having a love affair with him. Everyone else wanted Murray.

Its always funny how so many of these trades or drafts were considered "smart" or "a steal" at the time they happened (and for good reason in many cases), but it just proves that its hard to tell how things are going to pan out with players. A great player may struggle or get injured... there could be chemistry issues or people clashing with coaches which isn't anticipated.

You forget how AWFUL the Wild were before the Parise and Suter signings. Those deals vaulted the Wild back to relevance. There’s a reason they made the playoffs 6 years in a row after signing them. Wild absolutely made the right move to sign them.

lol Abdelkader didn’t even score a goal in 49 games this year. I’m from Detroit and the only reason he ever had decent numbers is because Babcock put him on a line with a couple people named Datsyuk and Zetterberg sometimes. And of course Chicago’s had to be trading Panarin for Saad huge joke lol
@RobCl19853 жыл бұрын
What makes the Sergachev / Drouin deal even worse was the fact that Drouin was not only starting to look like a bust, but also didn't even want to play in Tampa. It was looking like Tampa didn't have a leg to stand on but managed to pull this deal off. And I think the Pens giving up on Fleury, essentially losing him for nothing to the expansion draft, is worse than the Perron deal.
@michaeldipietro50104 жыл бұрын
Forsberg and Vrana with some young unnamed playmaking center would look good these days. The former looks to be a good finisher. The latter has elite speed to burn defenses with a good shot to boot.
@futuremet914 жыл бұрын
For the Rangers, Richards wasn't bad for them while he was on the team and they used a compliance buyout on him, so that cost them $0. I'd say the worst move was between drafting McIlrath in 2010, signing Dan Boyle in the 2014 offseason instead of re-signing Stralman, or trading for Eric Staal at the 2016 deadline.

To be fair to the Oilers for that Yakupov drafting, many people saw him as a great player. If I remember correctly, he was more or less the consensus for 1st overall.

Yeah as a Caps fan, that Forsberg one still hurts to this day. If we had kept him, he would have been on a line with Oshie and Either Backstrom or Kuznetsov. Not so sure they could have kept Carlson, Oshie, Kuznetsov, and Orlov if they had kept Forsberg though.
@TeddyUsick934 жыл бұрын
For the Leafs in 2011 they traded the 30th pick and 39th to move up to the 22nd pick and get Tyler Biggs. Anaheim used the 30th pick for Rickard Rakell and the 39th for John Gibson As a Sabres fan though I'd say the Ryan O'Reilly trade stung the most. But obviously the Ville Leino signing was bad too. The list is long haha.
@enriqueleon11694 жыл бұрын
Regarding Las Vegas, signing Shipachov didn't work out, but didn't cost them assets. Trading a #1, #2 and #3 for Tatar who was eventually traded to Montreal as a throw in was 10 times worse.

As an Islanders fan, this isn’t a full representation of the story. Tavares made clear he wanted to resign and didn’t want to be traded before the deadline, so the organization decided not to move him. He then pushed off extensions and allowed himself to slip into free agency and signed with the Leafs. It’s not that the Islanders didn’t want to get nothing for him, but more that there wasn’t an expectation we’d lose him until July 1 creeped closer and closer and no new contract was signed. Can still be classified as a mistake I guess, but I disagree

0:45 18 games, 3 points. Took him 3 more seasons (165 games, 47 points) before he became the William Karlsson we all know now. Hindsight is 20/20, so I wouldn't call that their worst move of the past 10 years.

Agree the Pens trade for Perron never worked out, but they were able to flip him for Hagelin who was pretty integral to them winning TWO Stanley Cups! I would have put the Brassard deal instead. Sure it didn't exactly hurt them in the long run, but it just seemed bizzare coming off a Cup win to start putting guys primarily on your team to fight when they never really had that mindset before, plus Brassard was never going to be happy on the third line, despite his third line level talent lol.

Yeah I've had resentment for McPhee since that day. Think god he got fired not long after. If we had Forsberg today, man him on a line with Kuznetsov......godly like dreams!!!!
@doaftheloaf4 жыл бұрын
the problem isn't that they traded grubauer, it's that they didn't get enough back. copley can do a competent job as an NHL backup...but it's unlikely he gets the chance in washington. maybe winnipeg picks him up on waivers once they figure out brossoit is awful...though i figure they'd pluck dell off waivers first. next year, i figure the caps either have vanacek backing up or another veteran. grubauer had to go sometime, samsonov was always the future.
@nolananderson47822 жыл бұрын
Looking back at this from summer 2022: The Karlsson trade is without a doubt the Sharks' worst move. Shipachyov doesn't even crack the top 5 worst moves Vegas has made -- instead it's things like managing their cap so poorly that they traded Fleury and Paccioretty for nothing, trading away Nick Suzuki and other young stars, alienating everyone who's ever played for them....

Wouldnt Dylan Strome be a bigger mistake on Arizonas part than Perlini? Strome was picked 3rd, never played and then got shipped of to Chicago where he excelled.

the Minnesota Wild's worst decision for me is drafting Benoit Pouliot 4th overall in 2005 considering the Canadiens took Carey Price the very next pick.
@chengliu8724 жыл бұрын
I feel like the Karlsson trade could be the one for the Sharks if the 1st round pick ends up being a top 3 and at least one of Josh Norris, Rudolfs Balcers and Mads Sogaard ends up being really good.
