On those GM oil caps its a good idea to spray some silicone around the rubber gasket. They become tough to removed with age.

Helped to see someone doing the job before I did myself. Thanks fellas. I warmed up my truck so the oil would drain out better but the damn oil filter was too hot to hold onto and I dropped it in the pail lol. Other than that, the job was a relatively easy one.

Looks good. A few things tho. I’ve been a mechanic for over 20 years. 1) I really hope you didn’t spray the cleaner (we sometimes use break cleaner at Chevrolet) to get the oil off. But if u did, I just hope u didn’t get it in the actual oil filter drain. 2) if your car is a 3.6L, then you would reverse it and normally put 6.3 qts. It’s okay to go over such as 6.5 quarts. If it’s 6 quarts, then just fill it to 6. No need to fill it almost to there. Better to over fill than under fill as it would burn your engine. You did a good video tho for the people who didnt know how to change their oil.

Never tighten an oil filter with a filter wrench... ever. 1. You could easily over tighten it 2. You could just as easily dent the filter (a dented filter is no good and should be thrown out right away)

Use 5 quarts of oil ! I have a 1999 Tahoe . I drained the oil, changed the oil filter, added 6 quarts of oil. After warming up, the oil dipstick read about a quart high. The next day I dropped the new oil filter, dumped (and saved the new oil, approximately one quart), cleaned the outside of the oil filter and reinstalled. After warming the dipstick indicates a proper full reading now . Use 5 quarts of oil even with a new filter is my lesson here.

Okay, so I'm watching this after my friend tried taking off my filter and I just wanted to make sure we were twisting it the right way, because we were going lefty loosey but it wont come off. My friend tried so hard that he dented and broke open the filter. It is really mauled. I took a picture of it and showed it to my friends dad who is a mechanic and he told me I need to take it into a shop right away. The only problem is I dont have any money and was wondering if theres a way for me to still fix this on my own.

2 things wrong with this video. NEVER use a filter wrench to put on filter. Hand tight. And pull the filler cap prior to draining the oil allows for proper and quicker drainage.
@2carpros
@2carpros 10 жыл бұрын
Due to the position of the oil filter it is difficult with people with large hands to get " hand tight " on this oil filter. In the video it says to tighten with the oil wrench but lightly clamp the oil filter not damaging the filter internally. Also the oil cap does not need to be off for the oil to drain out of the pan or filter. All of our videos have been done by a certified ASE mechanic with over 35 years of experience. If you have anymore question, feel free to ask at www.2carpros.com/questions/new
@Boobtube.
@Boobtube. 9 жыл бұрын
2CarPros if the mechanic has 35 yrs experience, he should know that anywhere in the "hashed" area of the dipstick is within spec. Does not have to be up to the "3rd hole" as the video said.
@2carpros
@2carpros 9 жыл бұрын
XboobtubeX Is the 3rd hole in the middle of the hashed area? Then I believe it was stated correctly.
@Boobtube.
@Boobtube. 9 жыл бұрын
2CarPros People are led to believe the oil HAS to be to the 3rd hole the way this video is stated. All I am saying is, it is ok for the oil to be above or below the "3rd hole". just as long as it is in the hashed area. The video says nothing about oil level being ok anywhere in the hashed area. All that is shown is the 3rd hole. While this is still a good level, it is not the only safe spot for the oil level to be.

I always take oil cap off first, helps the oil flow, also I crank the engine, not letting it start, amazing how much more oil comes out.
@hedionda71
@hedionda71 5 жыл бұрын
Cranking the engine may be causing the pump to draw oil from the filter which you would be draining anyway. This may drain the pump and filter lines of old oil but it may also introduce air into the lines and affect the time it takes for new, clean oil to get to the valves. I go so far as to put oil into the new filter before installation when possible to reduce the amount of time it takes to fill the lines with oil.
