In these cars with A/C (4:46), like yours and mine, you can just take the cooling fan out and you will have plenty of room to get the manifold + front cat assembly out with no problem. There are 6mm (if I remember right) bolts at the top corners of the fan and the bottom just sits on little hangers. Remember to unplug the fan and then disconnect the fan plug wires (bottom left/driver's side) and the A/C wires (bottom right/passenger side) from the fan housing before lifting. Also, be careful not to damage the radiator.

Really appreciate you taking time to make the video. I’m leaking oil on my 2012. From what I can tell it’s coming from the center / passenger side. Oil all over the belt & even the alternator. I’m assuming it’s going to be the gaskets you replaced here.

Finally. This is helpful for the new thermostat housing assembly, I lost my gasket and it was bad so I cannot stop the oil cooler from leaking and I cannot find the seal that goes into the gasket anywhere ?? 🤦🏻‍♂️. The new thermostat assembly is all made into one with the oil cooler return line but it comes with jk new gasket. Stupid and I hate these cars 😂

Great vid! I have the same car for me ma and it is giving a small leak at the oil cooler and pan. The dealer told me $2000+...WTF!!!! Then after I tell him no 3 times he comes back and takes over a $1000 off!!!!!!! WTF is going on??? I'm looking at the parts list and they are replacing the cooler, pan and everything for a couple bad gaskets. My question is: Is there any good reason besides that oil cooler being crushed that I would buy a new one?

Hi I just swapped out my thermostat and Intake throttle/thermostat hose since I had a coolant leak. It was coming from thermostat. So I was pretty careful swapping out the thermostat but the oil cooler pipe did move a bit BUT ssemed to me like it was still in the other pipe. Go to add coolant and it starts dumping out right where the oil cooler pipe is inserted. I pulled the whole oil.cooler.pipe out and the o ring on outside does look a little rough. Simple as swapping out this o ring and reseating the oil cooler pipe? I don't think there would be another reason for a leak here. Anyone can help or has done this let me know please. Appreciate it.

Since it is leaking and potentially going to mix with the oil, is there a chance oil is going into coolant hoses (which are not designed for oil) ? Should you replace them at the same time? If they have had oil in them are you at greater risk of headgasket failure due to hoses rupturing? Great video!

i had the same problem and i fix it by myself It has a plastic spring and a small valve inside just where the oil filter is placed ... when it fails, the oil circulates with more pressure thats why it leaks on top of the manifold.. you can get this plastic part online or you can buy the entire cooler.. heres a pic of the part ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1duXIanjxK1Rjy0Fnq6yBaFXa8.jpg

@@C4SS865 the name is Engine Oil Cooler filter one way Valve and its pretty easy to replace.. You have to remove the oil from the engine and then remove the oil filter cover and replace the valve with the new one. Yes as the seals go bad engine oil pressure is greater than cooler pressure so oil goes into the coolant rather than coolant in the oil. Same problem with my vauxhall astra GTC 1.6t in the UK engine code a16let

I get told that replacing the cooler in a 1.6 Vauxhall Astra H (looks the same as this car) is 4 hours in total. It looks like it takes you a _lot_ less time. If you unbolted the exhaust from the bottom of the car instead of from the bottom of the catalytic converter would it have been even quicker to get the the point where the exhaust manifold is down and out of the way with less risk of bolts breaking? Could you have dropped the heatshield down instead of lifting it up? Could you have unbolted the catalytic converter bracket only and removed the exhaust manifold just as easily?

@@CLIFTYPOPS no, I didnt get it done, with such a high price everywhere and so little guarantee and because it only happens with the coolant fully topped up and it's fine just a bit low and the cars has many things wrong that people all say is great I'm just taking the car to its inevitable conclusion. It's starting to be obvious the UK is all socialised up with price controls so you can't get anything correct anymore. Added to that, when I tried to discuss eliminating the head gasket first while doing the timing belt and for them to check if the problem is sorted while the car's apart, a they were adding the prices of work not to be done because it was shared tear down and rebuild, and they were trying to just push up the prices after estimate and not wanting to discuss the feasibility, just taking money as if I'd outright commissioned the work already. I can imagine lots of ways to eliminate various causes if only they were free to optimise the business but it clearly doesn't work like that in the UK. Everyone's under someone else's thumb and some central control is making everything absurd. With this pandemic lock down I heard that farmers are culling their stock due to lack of demand while the shops round here are short of good meat, stocking a few bits of rotting stuff with odour suppressants and people think there's no stock available and that's why, even though the farmers reportedly have surplus. This is how mad the UK seems to be now.
