Today I'm working on a 2012 Chevy Cruze with the 1.4L Turbo engine that had a oil leak on the oil cooler and the oil would leak into the exhaust.
When I called a Bud at the dealership for parts he knew exactly what I was going to need and send them all to me.

I have done many oil coolers but I have a lift. I don't remove the turbo or the exhaust manifold due to the oil return line being so brittle. I use a rachet strap and pull it back. And remove the cooler from the bottom of the vehicle. Saves a lot of time.

I HATE Chevy Cruze with a passion. My mom and my roommate both have one. Both have different engines from one another and I'm still constantly having to fix them craps. It's like every other week there's something wrong with them so they keep me busy. And if course, the reason I'm watching this video here is because one of them now has a P0067 code and leaking coolant and transmission fluid 🤦🏽‍♂️

GMs stupid for putting that tiny lil oil cooler behind the hot @ss turbo. They HAD to have done that to cause a leak on purpose. Guess with the intercooler in front they had nowhere else to mount that. At least they could have used something that wasnt going to leak & require all that labor.

Hi, I got my oil cooler replaced last year because of oil mixing in collant. Yesterday i noticed the same issue and i am in doubt that how could a brand new part fail in just an year with only 2000 km covered since replacement. Any idea on what could be the reason of failure ? The mechanic says it need to again replace the whole part which i again doubt. Could only replacing the gaskets solve the problem ?
@FalconsGarage

MAYBE you can get away with just replacing the gaskets .. the problem is .. if after everything goes back in it still leaks .. you will have to pay for the labor of going back into it.

My brothers cruz recently broke, rough idle, knock sound. Motor shakes back and forth. Probably a bent rod and a wrist pin put into bad shape. I blame the stupid oil cooler. With the coolant gasket passage being so close to the oil one cause we did a head gasket test and it wasnt that. Did a oil change on it and nothing but water came out first so my assumption is thats how the coolant is getting into the block oil passages 🙃 good job chevy you made another P.O.S

@@FalconsGarage I don't know if it has enough oil or clean. I had all fluids replaced about 2 years ago. About a month ago, a garage in town checked it for an oil leak and said they couldn't fix the oil leak because it was under the valve cover?? but they put trans oil in because it was low. The GMC dealership said they can't check it "no dip stick" without giving me an appointment and lifting the car which costs $105. I read someone where that you should never have to add trans fluid. Another place said a trans shop has a tool that will tell them how much oil is in it. I had batteries replaced for $123, Radiator fan for $523, Turbo Charger $1,200 and now this trans oil light. Also, I did see in pictures I had taken of codes that someone read a P)420 code but I am no longer getting that code after all the work.

YMMV: this took me closer to 12 hours. the car i worked on had 150k miles and we live in the rust belt -- salt corroded most of the hardware, either fusing nut/bolt into a solid piece or disintegrating the nut to a point where nothing will grab it. Two of these problem nuts/bolts were inaccessible by grinding wheel, Chinese hot wrench (i.e., torch), or reciprocating saw, so I had to hand file them off or drill them out. Plus, if the leak is bad, you will spend a lot of time just cleaning all the gunk off the engine.

I just had this done today by my Mechanic. The Engine Oil cooler was leaking oil ONTO the Catylac Converter, NOT inside the Catylac Converter. Check engine light came on with the P0420 code for Catylac emissions. What was happening was when the oil was dripping on the Catylac Converter (CAT), it was raising the temperature and telling the O2 sensor that the temperature is out of range. The CAT was overheating. Once the mechanic pulled out the CAT, he showed me that there is no issue with it from the inside. It was nice and clean. However, from the outside of it, he showed me the burning of the oil on the outside surface of the CAT when it was being vaporized by the temperature of the outside of the CAT. Remember, CATYLAC Converters can reach temperatures of 1,500 Fahrenheit. Very dangerous to touch obviously. So, imagine oil dripping on top of the surface of the CAT, it'll only increase the temperature. It tool my mechanic and another mechanic working with him on and off about 2 to 3 hours total. It's was time consuming.

Hey, I'm trying to a replace an oil cooler on a 2016 chevy trax LT 1.4L. I can't find a repair manual for it or a video for the specifc car or model. Is the setup and parts locations the same as it is for the vehicle in this video?

Yes, the 1.4 ecotec (Opel Family 0) on your Trax is identical to the 1.4 on the first gen Cruze - although some hoses may look different or be constructed of different materials

when u took out the turbo you have to un bolt the oil return line the one that broke it from bottom so it wont break ?
@FalconsGarage

The reason why it broke is because it’s made out of plastic. So it gets brittle with time.

@FalconsGarage

are you talking about the coolant lines?
@gustavolule9881
@gustavolule9881 5 жыл бұрын
@@FalconsGarage I'm honestly not sure. My guess is that coolant leaked out from one of the hoses that goes to the thermostat housing. I do believe that the conector that goes to the oil pressure switch either broke off or popped of because in the video the line or connector is hanging off to the side. I'm going bassed off of a video she sent me of the car. She's an hours drive away from me so I'll be going to check it out tomorrow after work.

@@FalconsGarage Got it fixed. Replaced the inlet hose from the oil cooler, the oil pressure switch & it's connector. Also found that coolant got into one of the spark plugs and was causing a miss fire. Vaccumed the coolant out and cleaned the rest out with a a rag. Called it good.
