That's very beautiful! I love your works - there is a lot of tenderness in them.

I love your colors. It's a unique palette for a form study (so used to everything being brown-tinted) I have to take this as a hint to use the colors I love!

Lena , love this demo. Do you usually take your values down compared to the subject. It seems so much softer than the true color on the picture. Do you take down the color value from outdoors,example ,the ocean
@LenaRivo6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Roxanne. I do not deliberately take the values down. It is just... I never copy photographs. Having painted from life a lot I seem to know how things should really look (sometimes I fail). I dont like painting from photos (I cant see well colors and subtle shades in them. Contrast and values are often messed up in them too.), but when I do, I take colors mostly from memory and use the local color-values of the objects I see in the photo to build the value scheme of the painting. When I paint outdoors I do not try to manipulate the values nor colors. Painting from life I can see so much beauty that my only goal is to capture it as best as I can, leaving all my previous experiences aside.

Lena your gouache course is such a success you should make one for oils! I'd definitely buy it ☺️
@LenaRivo5 жыл бұрын
:) Thank you, dear Ayna! I’m glad you’re enjoying the course! I’ve worked on it for almost a year. I can’t believe I will ever have enough energy again to make another online course :D Maybe I just need a short vocation :)
@aynapaisley5 жыл бұрын
@@LenaRivo I love it! It is very detailed and one can see how much effort you put in it. I'm only halfway but there's already so much information! I really love your oil painting as well I tried to adopt the knowledge I have in gouache for oil painting but it doesn't seem to work. My oil art is so dull and uninteresting.. hopefully you'll have enough motivation to make an oil course as well! For now have a well deserved rest 🤗
@LenaRivo5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Ayna :) Yes, alla prima oil painting technique differs a lot from all the other painting techniques... I might create a course on it sometime in the future, but I think when you finish my course on gouache, it will become easier for you to work with oils too because in oil painting you have to clearly understand what you are doing. We need to block the shapes with the right colors and values right away without repainting them over and over again. So, for example, the exercise with a koi fish in the course, you can try to do it with oils, I am sure you will end up with a great painting. The approach I am using in that lesson is basically how I paint with oils.

Awh I love watching you paint. I was wondering if u do watercolour?
@LenaRivo6 жыл бұрын
leesuh :) thank you! Watercolor is probably the only medium I avoid, because I like to paint in full strength values and, even though it is possible, it is harder to achieve with watercolor.

Лена, это просто волшебно!!! Столько воздуха и света!!! Успехов Вам и вдохновения! Скажите пожалуйста, какие растворители вы используете когда работаете с маслом?
@LenaRivo6 жыл бұрын

Lena, is this alla prima? How do you stop your colours from blending with each other? Mine just becomes a mess... Thanks
@LenaRivo5 жыл бұрын
Katya Carrington Hi Katya! Yes, I painted this one in one session. I use painting medium from W&N to paint the first layer . Thanks to the medium the first layer of paint becomes sticky in a half hour and allows me to add another layer on top of it. I also try not to apply opposite colors (complementary) on top of each other. If I did, they would mix and created a gray mess.

I LOVE watching you paint! Color, composition, shadow and light, it’s all wonderful! Do you have a favorite medium? I love oils but I don’t love the cleanup. I love watercolor for its simplicity, but also because it has a mind of its own and is unexpected. It is so easy to do anywhere you find yourself. I am just learning gouache, but so far it is fascinating.
@LenaRivo6 жыл бұрын
Kana Michelle thank you, Kana! Honestly I love all the mediums I work with. I love gouache for its matte finish, oils for versatility; acrylics for me is something in between gouache and oil: easier to clean than oils and they don’t have the gouache’s color shift that wastes my time so often 😬 Also I need to switch from one medium to another from time to time in order not to get bored 😁

I do like your art very much. I just have a thing against timelapse videos. I'm a watercolor artist and just lately getting back into oils after many years.

Barbra Joan Thank you, Barbra. It took me about three hours to complete this painting.. I can’t post videos this long here on KZbin, but I do realize that real time demos are much better for learning things so I will find another way to share them.

Lena Rivo thank you for your reply. Your art is colorful and exciting, and I'm trying to inhale as much as I can. I'll sub and watch despite the timelapse. Good luck !
