Oil Painting: How To Remove A Dried On Paint Cap

When I bought my Strada easel kit, it came with a tool to help remove dried on paint caps from my tubes of oil paint. Although something similar would work to help grab and torque off a stubborn cap.
Before using what is demonstrated in the video I would use a small piece of thin leather to help get a better grip on the caps which worked pretty well most of the time but I do recommend a more purpose dedicated tool.
Keeping the threads on the paint tube as clean as possible would help a lot in preventing this problem in the first place.

That is a great suggestion. One thing I learned early on is I can avoid that paint on the tube threads altogether ... if there's a little paint sticking beyond the lip of the tube take the tube right side up and tap the base of the tube against a hard surface. It forces that little bit of paint back into the tube without even touching it. You end up with clean threads.

Great trip that I will try. The stuck caps and clogged threads is a pain.

@@edheim87 can't take credit for the idea but it works and is worth passing on. I may require a couple of taps on the hard surface to get the paint back in the tube.
