Very nice painting! Ever try using an acrylic ground so you don't have to wait a week to start? Also, do you seal your charcoal drawing before you start to keep it from smudging? Thanks.

Hi Chris- I normally use acrylic gesso but occasionally try the oil ground to experiment with the texture of the support and how the absorption rate of the paint. R Schmid uses it exclusively.. When using charcoal to draw, which is rarely, I blot excess off with a rag or Viva towel so there's just a ghost of an outline. Thx for watching.

Hello- the color charts I mention are described in the book Alla Prima by Richard Schmid. I personally love his work, bought the book and went through the process of creating those charts. I learned a lot about color and still use them today for both indoor and outdoor painting.
