I bought a big cooling pad (usually used for cooling sprained ankles or stuff like that) and when i want to paint with my sennelier oilpastels in the summer i put a paper towel on the cool pad (i store it in the freezer) and then i put all the colors i want to use on the pad, so between using them i get a short cooling break and they actually stay quite nice and usable during the summer heat.

Very beautiful work, you must do commissions! May I inquire, I notice that you use both Mungyo and Van Gogh brand pastels, in your opinion which of the two blend more easily? I have some Van Gogh and am looking at the Mungyo's. Sennelier's are out of my price range! Cheers! 😃
@YolandaBlazquez Жыл бұрын
Mungyo! I bough 5 pastels from Van Gogh and found them to be pretty dry and chalky, which is weird since they are oil pastels. Mungyo blend well, I’m quite satisfied with them. I’m planning on making some lightfast tests because I don’t know how well they’ll hold🤞🏻

I've just discovered your channel. You're so talented! I used Sennelier oil pastels for the first time today (and first time using any oil pastels). I found them more difficult to use than I thought 😂 but it is summer here (30+ degrees), so that may be why. If you don't mind me asking, what is the blending stick you use? Is it specifically for oil pastels?
@YolandaBlazquez9 ай бұрын
Thank you! Hot weather makes them much harder to use, they get very very soft so I prefer Neopastel during summer and Sennelier for the rest of the year although I always end up mixing them somewhat. The blending stick is a regular paper stump for pencil drawings 🙂

Hi Yolanda, your artwork is beautiful and I’m just wanting to try them out because I did a double portrait on drafting film with colored pencils, which are use very often especially for portraits or soft, pastel, etc. and I messed up the background. Nothing would stick to it until I saw video from some other artist that said oil pastels adhere very well to the drafting film and I was able to put a background and the drafting film which excepted it perfectly where it had been damaged by erasing and washing off so I want to try to do a Whole portrait with oil pastels that is. I have not heard you say that you’ve used drafting film. Do you not recommend using film? If you advice against the drafting film what paper do you prefer to use? Thanks so much ……PS on your Patreon site do you talk about the colors you use and why in certain places , in other words give a more detailed explanation of the process. Thanks again look forward to hearing from you, Brenda Morgado
@YolandaBlazquez9 ай бұрын
Hello Brenda, I can’t help you with that since I’ve never used that film, I’m not even sure I know what it is. I’m used to paint on paper for most of the works I do so it’s always my first choice (other than linen for oils). On Patreon I tell exactly the colors that I use for each tutorial and explain why. Some tutorials are more in depth than others and vary in length from half an hour to several hours in real time. Have a nice day!

They are a bit tricky, don’t be discouraged. I like sanded papers made for soft pastels but also regular printing paper.
