Is it common for these to fail?

Well, these engines does not fail very often, but these pumps are one of reasons if they fail.

@rustoil Good to know! I have this same engine that's why I asked. It's the main difference between the DW10BTED4 and the DW10CTED4 was the introduction of the variable flow oil pump. That said, I have seen these DW10CTED4 engines with over 800k KM on their original oil pumps so I would say frequent oil changes (10k) will prevent failure. Was the oil pump the cause of your engine failure? And if so have you any idea why that might have been? Cheers!

@19jacobob93 well, I dont exactly know, what was the main cause of the failure. I guess that it was not properly repaired after cranshaft/connecting rods bearings replacement and those failled again. Pump chain was in place. I dont know if there was any problems with oil pressure before engine started to knock...

@rustoil It sounds like a failing pump (low oil pressure) was what caused the bearings to fail in the first place! Such a shame though, I really enjoyed watching your vids on the C5! Thanks for taking the time to respond

I was about to write my guess on it. I'm guessing wrong oil. Coupled maybe with negligence from the owner, who didn't change them religiously every 10.000 kms and....there goes the pump, and then the bearing, and goodbye engine. Too bad, cause these were pretty good and reliable engines, if taken good care of.👍👍👍👍

​@@mr_nice.Highly possible. My theory is that the sump hit a rock and possibly was driven with less oil for a while after which it Wasn't repaired properly resulting in the above failure.

​@mr_nice. I've seen these (slightly older DW10BTED4 at least) go 50k KM with no oil change and no apparent ill effects haha just flush and refill, and it's still being driven every day

Good video but leave that horrible free KZbin 'music' out, it ruins your video. I have same engine and I have a coolant leak at the rear where I can't get too, currently just relying on sealer additive to hold it.
