“Know your rudiments” Best advice to any drummer who wants to add flavour to their playing.

I just saw Korn last Tuesday, and this guy is their new centerpiece. Everyone watches him on stage. He's a fantastic drummer, and he's a lot of fun to watch.

Ray is the man, I've always been impressed by his skill behind the kit and more recently I've been blown away by just how great of a personality he is. He knows his shit not just in terms of drumming but also in regards to being a professional musician.

@@illsalvo7854 I know I'm answering after a 6 years and you probably don't even need to know the answer anymore but that kit that Ray is using in this video is made by OCDP 😃

I wish more people would watch this. It's nice to have a well known musician say you need to know the basics before you can play this and this. Rays a great guy. Check out other things hes played on. He is a MONSTER!
@pirotrav12 жыл бұрын
Ray is so on point in terms of his technique, and more importantly, the right way to learn. While I had a great jazz instructor who helped me learn my bassa novas and swing beats, I spent too much time in high school smashing perfectly good drum heads and turning around the beat. I was the best in that small world, but if you want to be truly great you have to stick to the basics.

thanks for breaking it down ray! that's what make drummers better is learning from others. i'm a drummer and have picked up some things from this. you're awesome, keep making vids!
@ViciousMandy328 жыл бұрын
I wonder how many drummers take time to listen to the songs and figure things out themselves? Learning by ear and feel is how I learnt, and it's really paid off. Being able to figure out what part of the kit is being used and when by listening to the track over and over can be a useful and intuitive skill. Especially if you have a song to learn quickly.

Says who? You? Korn, if for *nothing* else...has been about its LIVE SHOW and the experience that comes with that for the fans...and Ray delivers! I know alot of people that aren't too into Korn but admit that their live show is incredible. That's a win for the fans. Period.

love his air drumming
@Davephatbuds10 жыл бұрын
"Apparently, air drumming is where it's at". Tommy Lee is known for that. Air drumming died in the 80's. I wish someone would tell him. At this point, it's obvious. Anyways, Ray is the drummer in Metal in the last 10 years to bring back the basics in heavy drumming. People who don't know that haven't caught him live. The guy's a monster!! His fills are incredible.

You Obviously dont know Morgan Rose,this guy is a fucking monster on the kit,check him out
@Davephatbuds8 жыл бұрын
badcrowJC : I know Morgan Rose. Drummer of Sevendust. I like 7Dust, but Morgan's drum patterns seem recycled. Every album sounds a carbon copy of the previous. But he's still a badass drummer. Just wished they'd go outside the box a little bit. Yeah. they did some acoustic stuff too, but.

Young drummers, take note. Learn the basics, then graduate to blast beats. It's helps.
@Davephatbuds10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but the urge to do so is there. Most young drummers wanna learn way too fast and be a monster behind the kit before taking the time. That's what I meant.

Playing "like" Ray Luzier involves a lot of versatility and many different musical influences. Be careful not to be locked into one style so you can only play, for example, hard rock.
