Also, the girlfriend isn't overreacting, it's prefect normal to what she said and it's justified. As a plus size woman, I didn't blame or angry at the brother called out on his plus size sister, Jess. The only person that is bodyshamer is his sister, Jess. Not the brother. Ok two things: 1. I'm from New Jersey which has the most diners than any other state in the country and I can assure you that NO ONE rings their bell to call one of the waitstaff for an order. Heck, even snapping your fingers and whistling is considered rude and uncalled for in the States. You don't even see that kind of nonsense in movies or tv shows that take place in the States so what the heck is he talking about when he said "It's America, it's common and people don't care". 2. Don't give the excuse "It's a free coutry" to do whatever inappropriate things you want, there are things called "laws" that allows the manager of said diner the right to kick you out of there for disturbing the peace, which is against the law to do so. For the second story, the sister is just being rude for making light of a serious eating disorder. There are doctors out there that believe that just because someone is above or below their recommended BMI number for their height and weight, it automatically labels them as "unhealthy" without even taking consideration on how active they are or what foods they eat. They could be some of the healthiest people on the planet but because of their BMI, doctors would see them as unhealthy. Anyway the point is, just because someone's skinny doesn't make them automatically the picture of good health but at the same time people should skinny shame people or fat shame people because they could easily go through a lot of stuff like depression that has them eat more or less than what they really should.

As an American, the bell thing is an jerk move here. Also it defeats the purpose of tipping. My mother taught me the system. Their tip relies on how full her glass is. If she never reaches the bottom, it's fifteen percent. If she has to wait for a new soda it's ten. If she has to wait more than twenty minutes it's five. I only ever saw her give twenty once and it's because the waitress brought her a new glass when her other glass was only a quarter empty. Waiting for food is understandable especially if they are busy. Drinks aren't. She also sneaks the waitresses tips when we are with my grandparents because they refuse to tip always, no matter how good the service is.

As an American that guy that rang the bell is very rude. We do not ring bells do get waiters attention. “Free country,” yes, but it does have some rules. But, most Americans think about what they do in a public place like a restaurant first. So I apologize for that man’s behavior.
@DwarfDragonwulf2 жыл бұрын
The only reason I got a dryer is because I'm disabled and can't hang the washing on the line anymore. It makes it so I'm able to do it. That guy is wasteful. I wouldn't be surprised if that ends in divorce.

About the hanging clothes thing(I’m from America) I don’t do it that much, only with towels and rugs but other than that I take the clothes out the dryer and leave them overnight to dry in the washing basket

In America dryers fully dry your clothes so there is no need to hang dry them. We used to do that back in the day. Either way the guy is snobby douche canoe. His neighbors probably don't pay him a lick of attention.
@Kyutie.2 жыл бұрын

@mistinghaze2 жыл бұрын
Omg yeah exactly; I thought the whole point of having a dryer was to dry your clothes completely, and if if didn’t then you either have too many clothes in there or you just need to dry it again. And a lot of places don’t even have balconies (or useable ones) so you can’t dry your clothes outside anyway. And if you don’t have a washer and dryer usually there’s a laundromat close by anyway; I’ve never seen anyone hang their clothes outside these days.
@wendyhood19622 жыл бұрын
Dryers seem to be a very American thing to me. For starters not all clothing can go in the dryer. It is also more environmentally friendly to line dry clothes. I get it in areas where you have snow etc that it is not an option but otherwise why not line dry. Nothing smells as good as sheets straight off the line on a freshly made bed
@mistinghaze2 жыл бұрын
@@wendyhood1962 True, maybe just in my case the area where we live in there is literally no place to hang clothes outside, especially since we don’t live in a house so we don’t own anything. Even if we found an area to hang clothes the amount of pollen, insects, animals, neighbors, maintenance, rapid weather changes, etc there is, it would be almost impossible for something not to happen to our clothes to the point where it would be ruined.
@benwagner50892 жыл бұрын
@@mistinghaze Especially the weather changes. In the Seattle area, we'd only be able to hang dry about six months out of the year, and we'd have to keep an eye out for rain all the time. I heard a story about some immigrants who moved to the Chicago area who tried to hang dry in their basement during the winter, and the next day the clothes were still not dry. Makes me wonder how people did it before electricity. Just hang it in front of the cooking fire I guess?

Absolutely NO ONE in restaraunts do this in America. If you want the waiter, you wait until the come back, or you can call out to them if they are near you. But, some restaraunt do have this system where you press a button on the table and the waiter or waitress knows that you need them, so sometimes it is different.

as an American, I would like to say that it is also unacceptable to ring bells in restaurants here too. anyone doing that would get dirty looks and would likely be asked to leave. it’s not ok here either (unless bells are provided in the establishment specifically for this reason) and that boyfriend is a dramatic liar.
@Mythical42272 жыл бұрын
If they SUPPLY the bell (probably to log times that customers ring it) then that’s dandy but if you BRING the bell that’s just not okay. They are not servants and even if they were your $7 meal isn’t paying them, not nearly enough.
@dio65862 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've been to restaurants with these handy buttons you can press to get the servers' attention without having to raise your hand or shout and it's pretty handy not just for the customers but for the staff as well. On the other hand you can't just bring a bell to a restaurant and expect to be served like a king, I don't think restaurants use bells anymore either if they do have a similar system, yknow since technology has made life so much easier.
@Mythical42272 жыл бұрын
@@dio6586 Yeah, usually the bells near me are buttons that clue in a server and also log the time that the button was pressed with a cool down. It deters Karen’s from saying that they have been waiting for 30 minutes.

I've only seen bells when the place can get really busy, even then you only ring the bell a couple times when the waiter is in hearing range. This is extremely inappropriate and rude and I cannot begin to explain how frustrating it can get when a bell is ringing constantly like that.
@LeeOfShyness2 жыл бұрын
I think the dryer vs hanging stuff out thing was the view of either hanging everything out with no dryer or only using the dryer. At my house we have both an outside clothes line, a foldable clothes line and a dryer. We hang blankets and bed stuff outside, pants/shirts/sports stuff and hand towels inside and put singlets/undies and socks in the dryer
@autisticdancer2 жыл бұрын
With the first story, I am from American and I can confirm that ringing a bell to get a waiters attention is NOT ACCEPTABLE here. I don’t even know any places where that would be acceptable. I have literally never seen anyone do that in America. Also, just because we are a “free country” doesn’t mean you can do rude or cruel things without judgment or criticism. You can be rude but don’t expect everyone to be okay with it. And honestly that should apply to the 2nd story too. That girl can skinny shame all she wants but don’t expect everyone to be okay with that. If you are mean to someone that person has the right to be mean back (or in this case the boyfriend/narrator telling his sister off) because YOU started it. Also with story number 3, is letting your clothes dry in the sun normal anywhere else? Because like I said, I’m in America and I don’t do this and I haven’t seen anyone do this. So that isn’t a normal thing here (at least not that i’m aware of.) Is drying your clothes in the sun normal everywhere else?
