Today I learned about "the opponent chooses how to stack modifier effects." I actually run a Purphoros deck inspired by yours, so this was an important bit of knowedge.

Depends on what a replacement effect affects. The affected player or controller of the affected permanent gets to choose. So for example if you have two effects that change your creature's power, you get to choose the order; but if you have two effects that change how much combat damage that creature deals to another creature, that creature's controller gets to choose.

17:28 If you have Pyrohemia and an indestructible Ojer with Dragon Mantle, distributing your mana so that the number of times you activate Pyrohemia is equal to Ojer's power will deal the most damage. If you have 8 mana to spend and there's nothing else on board that affects Ojer's power, it's best to activate Dragon Mantle twice so that Ojer has 6 power then activate Pyrohemia 6 times to deal 36 damage. If you spent all the mana on Pyrohemia you would only deal 32 damage.

I know it’s a completely dumb and bad way to build this deck, but I want to make a version of this deck that waits to deal any damage until his power is exactly 40, and only then use little pinging effects to end the game. Highly unlikely in mono red but the concept itself is so f**king tempting.

You can go with blackblade and the other equip that gives +1+1 for each basic land with imprint. Problem is ramping in mono red is not the best. You can also go planar lens effects plus fire breathing

Try out using unleash fury + underworld breach, even without any other pumps 3 casts (2+6 = 8 mana) will get you up to 32 power

I think Mithril Coat might be better than Darksteel Plate, it's more mana to equip but flash and free equip on etb more than makes up for it imo. of course you could always run both

Chandra’s incinerator seems really good here. Unless I’m misunderstanding replacement effects, whatever buffed damage done to players is then dealt to creatures they control, and it gets cheaper to cast the more burn is thrown at opponents

I dont think Chandra's ping emblems work with Axonil, Axonil specifies red sources and I believe chandra's ping emblem do not have a colour so they won't get the damage boost as its the emblems doing the damage, could be very wrong though

Those emblems are also owned and controlled by the opponent, so there's a second layer to that not working (unfortunately!)@@PleasantKenobi

Artifact sources, and colorless emblems don't trigger Ojer. Birgi is a fantastic card to help Ojer with either impulse drawing or refunding red mana. Same with the new saga version, of Urubrask.

I will always always remember fondly pulling out Firecat Blitz in my Purphoros deck and having people have to read this card they've never seen before that just wins me the game on the spot. It's not a *good* card but in that deck it was great. Could potentially fir in here too.

Roiling Vortex might be useful redundancy for Sulfuric Vortex. And Neheb, the Eternal will create a buttload of mana for you post combat, to use even more ping-effects. I'd actually cut the Flip-Chandra for it, as she'll become a Planeswalker immediately after she pings once with the Commander out. And if you give Ojer indestructible or just have good attacks, Two-Handed Axe is a relatively easy way to just double their power to do even more damage post combat. Oh, and Mirran Banesplitter is a better version of good ol' Bonesplitter, I think. Heck, this might even be the deck to play Shivan fucking Gorge in :D Seems like a ton of fun (for one person at the table at least) & I might just have to build it. I personally think grapeshot could go a bit nuts in this deck. Cast a couple of spells and then just lay down gs for storm 5 and that is 20 damage. And that assumes you haven’t changed ojer’s power at all.

If you liked that one, my I also suggest unleash fury, for the low price of 2 mana you make all your burn that turn 8 damage. Also on buffing power, consider Claws of Valakut, which gives +1 power for each mountain you have in play.

Others that i like for this deck are sword of fire and ice and sword of war and peace for the buff and for the burn, they can also protect from 3 colours between them, one of which being white which can get around swords to plowshares and path to exile plus both mirran swords solve the pyrohemia issue

I don't think chandra's emblems work, that emblem isn't a red source you control. Perhaps Flame Fusillade might work better, allowing all your creatures to tap for 4 damage for a turn, or lava dart to double trigger your thermo alchemists and double tap someone for 8. Valakut exploration's also a decent draw engine that can blast your opponents every turn if you need straight damage, and chandra's incinerator can be a huge creature for 1 mana that starts shredding your opponents' boards whenever you ping them.

I´ve been playing Flip Urabrask for a while now and Ojer Axonil can simply slot into that deck really well. Another well protected, board wipe resistant piece of damage increase to make sure you have enough reach to end the game when you pop off.

Sweet deck tech video! Definitely got me wanting to build around Ojer. Just FYI - the emblems Chandra, Awakened Inferno gives opponents are colorless and therefore won't synergize with Ojer.

Blazing Shoal seems like a fun trick to just ramp out massive damage out of nowhere. Even pitching a lowly 4 cost means all your effects will do 8 damage. Livaan, Cultist of Tiamat is another fun include, every noncreature spell you cast will grow Ojer a little bit more.

Hey Vince, if someone is building a red commander deck with burn-based board control, then I usually suggest the pro-red swords. Sword of Sinew and Steel, Sword of War and Peace, and Sword of Forge and Frontier could easily swap in with a buff spell and an indestructible equipment. And of course, Sword of Fire and Ice just brings card draw if Ojer connects.

I have this deck, I built it right after I pulled the Axonhil .....I've never been group stomped off the table as fast as when I play this deck before. everyone works to kill you first then they fight each other with their collective 10 HP left over. if you just wanna be a sh*t disturber its a fun deck to watch everyone panic. I would also recommend having the cards "Bravoto" and "Granite Grip" if you are about to storm off with ping damage

I made a Madrotha deck that makes the game so long. I mean I made it because my friends were doing burn and fast combos, I wanted a deck that can take the hits until they run out of gas and I slowly win with a somewhat inf combo, but it still requires me to play out my turns because not having haste is a thing, but once I show that I have enough removal to replay and that I can swing for the next 54 extra turns, I'll get there. Honestly shes my favorite deck that I don't play very often. I usually go Gruul or Boros for fast games.

First of all, this deck is amazing. There are some interesting cards I run in my chandra typal that would be good here. Chandra, Fire Artisan: Impulse draws and punishes your opponents for attacking her with multiple small creatures Path of the Pyromancer/Into the Fire: While they're not card advantage, they can help you shape your hand in the early/midgame to find lands and mana rocks or help you dig for the finishers to close out the game when you have dead cards in hand. And honestly, you're already buffing Ojir into oblivion, so a Temur Battle Rage out of nowhere can just steal games

You can run inferno titan, when he enters and on attack do 12 damage divided in sections of 4. unleash fury turns ojer into a 8/4 until end of turn. blackblade reforged turns ojer into a big/big for pretty cheap,

I take any excuse I can to mono red storm, and this seems like the best grapeshot will ever be in commander. Throw in a few pump effects and everyone gets wrecked three times over

Red is doing well with both Imodane and Ojer back-to-back sets. I feel that the often looked over Hexproof equipment Champion's Helm and Mask of Avacyn should be great options. Even more ability to buff and protect Ojer at the same time. Sure, they are less mana efficient compared to both boots, but it is a couple more additions of straight up hexproof that stick around after a creature sweeper. Thran Power Suit can also become an option with a lot of equipment for buffing in addition to the ward in case you have nothing else to protect with. Plus, if you aren't running Greaves due to budget or preference, you have even more of a clear path to running a more voltron-ish giga punch sort of deck. Run cheap power buff spells and Lava Darts start looking like game enders. Makes me wonder about Imodane too. Sure, I don't think she's an include for Ojer and she wants to be running different types of cards, but does it seem like Ojer is more efficient at dealing 40 to everyone? Has she been powercrept in a single set?

So note on the Chandra emblems. Your opponent's control them so your commander won't replace their damage. It'll only do 1 per emblem, not 4

I'd play the Ring of Valkas personally, because although it may take longer to out-value Bonesplitter, there are definitely games where it can get Ojer to a higher power, especially because you can play it off as "It's gonna take a couple turns for this to be a problem anyways, don't worry about it."

I agree that lots of damage replacement effects is a bad idea with Ojer because they are largely non-bos because of how multiple replacement effects work. I do think, however, that 2-3 such effects in the deck (such as Torbran or doubling effects) as *redundancy* in case it becomes too prohibitive to cast Ojer due to the table targeting it down too much and keeping it hard to flip back from a land such that Ojer costs to much from the Command Zone and is hard to transform. Since you'r in red it's not too hard to build in looting effects to your draw such that you have the ability to pitch those cards as fodder to draw more relevant spells in the case that the game is going well and you don't have difficulty keeping Ojer on the board. Also, Leering Emlem would be pretty strong with Ojer in a build that has higher levels of spells cast in a turn. If your 3rd spell cast is an Earthquake for x=1, Ojer is a 10/10 and your opponents get slapped upside the head with a hammer. And a reminder that while Ahnk of Mishra might be good in the scope of an overall punisher card suite, it's not a red source and therefore will not be modified by Ojer.

I replaced Torbran with Ojer as commander and am playing with Chandra's. It isn't as fast as I want it to be, but it's a fine casual commander to where if I need to blow up a player, I can with little consequences.

Chandra doesnt really untap because on her first activation if you have Ojer out ahe will do more than 3 damage and then flip immediately. Also Rush of Blood and Unleash Fury double Ojer's power and then Grapeshot seems like an amazing play.

Question: Wouldn't X spells that deal damage technically have their damage increased to Ojer's power even if you cast them for X = 0? They are still being targeted by the effect, and all, it just doesn't deal damage normally. I could see there being an argument or ruling that dealing 0 damage means that there is no damage to modify, so things like Ojer and Torbran can't just ping people down with 0 mana X spells, but I *think* Ojer's replacement effect might work? And a follow-up question in case my reasoning on why 0 damage effects not being impacted is true: If an effect that removes damage from the stack/ an effect is sequenced right to reduce a burn spell to 0, would that stop Ojer's replacement effect from impacting the damage dealt? Not that those effects are ever played, but still.

In both cases, damage would be 0. Because they all are replacement effects, the person receiving the damage decides how those are sequenced, and can stack them in the way they want. For example, if the ojer player played a shock against a player who had an effect preventing one damage, they could either go prevent then ojer (resulting in 2->1->4) or the other way around (2->4->3). If the targeted player had an effect to prevent 2 damage, on the other hand, if they prevented the damage first they would take 0 total (2->0) This is because in general for a replacement effect to apply to an event there needs to be an event to replace. If a replacement event causes the event to no longer happen (ie: notion thief vs draws) then no further replacement effects can apply. Since an x=0 burn spell does no damage, no replacement effects can take place. If damage is prevented down to 0, bo further replacement can take place

Imodane is better. Damage a single creature with an instant or sorcery, deal that damage to ALL opponents. And it doesn't care about color or amount.
