Most exciting bike in our class that can be spoken about in the same conversation as 600cc bikes. Like you said I didn't think Kawasaki were actually gunna release it and so soon. It's the same in Italy, where a 400cc get a way lighter insurance cost. E.g.: get a 2005 ZX6-R Ninja as a complete two-wheels novice and pay +1200 € per year - whilst as an apprentice with a 2018 Ninja 400 you can indulge on a more comfortable 750 € insurance bill (price refer to a complete novice insurance, as a rider located in a busy city like Rome - and the busiest they are, the more you will pay).

Saying that as someone who owned ZX-9R E1, have XVZ 1300 Royal Star Venture (which will go) and have Monkey 125, PCX 125 and Gladius 650 (SV 650 basically) to accomodate. Why? I tested Ninja 400 for two hours and it was crazy fun and surprisingly fitting with my ~ 6'3". This ZX-4RR should be slightly bigger, especially fairing wider and so on. Ninja 650 was great fit. I want sports-tourer with good weather protection, not so radical sport seating, light, FUN and engine which I can really use. I was able to use ZX-9R, but is not good for your license, it SUCKS under 100km/hod and heats as hell. Only other alternatives for me are Ninja 650 or with more complaints CBR 650R. Even during test days no one wanted to try Ninja 400 that's why I was able to use it easily for 2 hours straight. Everyone testing those liter machines. But as I said with the amount of traffic, radar controls and such if you want to have fun those machines are not the right option. I was sure that ZX-25R will never be in Europe, but confirmation of this ZX-4RR comming here is great news. At least for me 😀

Suzuki made a bandit that was a inline 400cc in the early 90 making similar horsepower. Great bike for its time. My daughters ninja 400 twin is a great bike also. I’m a bike nerd. I love smaller bikes. And as you mentioned, hearing the engine scream doesn’t instantly put you at Mach 1 and license suspension territory. 10 years ago I got my K-Tech certs. I fell in love with a ninja 250 when my best friend got me on my first bike ever, in my late 20’s. I’m a skinny guy, so 80hp is plenty. As you mentioned, less gyroscopic inertia is great for carving twisty roads, and not having a ton of torque is very confidence inspiring when accelerating out of a turn. Less concern of the rear washing out or kicking, and fewer unintentional wheelie situations. The bike will still walk a new Supra from a dig in the quarter, and demolish it in the turns with the right rider. For 1/10th the cost.

Just to add value from the other end of the hemisphere. Licenses in Asia are usually limited by theirs CCs. Where I am from Singapore a Class 2A license similar to Japan's motorcycle class system and Europe's A2 class, are limited to 400cc.The most powerful bike of this class was the the Honda CB400SF, which is a 4 cylinder Rev happy machine with VTEC making 55hp. It has since been discontinued as of Oct 2022. I believe what Kawasaki is doing here is to fill that gap and provide a Rev happy, 4 cylinder bike in that 400cc class. Most bikes below 400cc either come in parallel twin configuration or single cylinders.

What appears to be different ergos make me think the R7 and ZX-4R would not be cross-shopped. ZX looks like it has much higher bars. this engine in a new Z please! a cute little super naked Z400RR, also acceptable for a Z400RRS a retro look with a pint sized 4 cyl would be fun and flickable. also seeing 4 pipes off a retro harks back to those UJM bikes and would love to see it

I think the ZX4R is best as someones first sportbike (if you have a lot of money) You first start commuting without hitting high revs so the bike is more easy to handle As you progress you can get up higher in the rev range, take a track day etc. The bike has a lot of tech so it isn't going to be outdated any time soon If the price will be worth it depends of there is going to be a 2nd gen. If not, the used market will have skyhigh prices making the investment worth it.

Good Video. I love this bike. Own a 1988 Yamaha FZR-400. It is/was a scalpel. It is still sitting in my shop. This form-factor has been done before. Only my TZR 250R handles better. Its about 100 pounds lighter with 60hp. One correction to your presentation. (From Kawasaki's spec sheet: Horizontal Back-link, BFRC lite gas charged shock w/ piggyback reservoir, adjustable compression, rebound and spring preload/4.9 in.) The rear shock is fully adjustable.) I too wish the forks had clickers.

i think it's perfect for small people like me who like a 4 cylinder bike for the sound. also, if i want a full blood screaming sportbike but dont want it to be too expensive like the liter sportbikes because it will only be used for short rides, this makes sense for me. in short, if you want a cheaper zx6r, this could be it.

10 grand for a 400 cc 4cyl motorcycle? What about $11,099 for a new KTM 300exc? It's all about Prospective folks. I guarantee this bike is going to be so much fun to wind out and get that Hugh rpm sound and be able to actually use it to its full potential on twisties and your average roads..

Yes, this I don't live in a Texas or Houston. We have shitty rural roads where I live that have a lot of logging trucks drive over them. No reason to have a ZX6R unless I drive 50 miles to I-5

I think the spike will be lucky to last three years in the US market over priced. No suspension adjustment in much too closely marketed against competitors that will produce more on the street for most riders. A true enthusiast machine and I hope I’m wrong I just don’t think there’s a big enough market here in the US.

In Canada they asking 10k for the zx-4r, 11k for the zx-4rr and 13k for the zx-6r. I believe they would also be a 1200$ difference for the plate every year because in Quebec supersport fall under the high accident-risk motorcycle category and i think the zx-4r would fall in the 126 cc to 400 cc category.

I believe Kawasaki put a 160 in the rear because of the torque output, giving it a 180 the low end will surely suffer, it's like you're always starting in 2nd gear

I was expecting this bike to be set up to be a track monster vs the Ninja 400 but it sounds like a slightly improved version of the 400 instead of a superbike upgrade. That is disappointing to be honest.

there are 250cc, 300cc, 400cc, 600cc, and 1000cc, it depends on your budget before you look at your capabilities to handle those bikes. I've seen some 250cc with loads of buck spend on their bikes and some stingy riders with bigger cc bikes who slack off on their bike maintenance due to the cost of maintenance. Affordability is the key to smaller cc existences here.

It kinda make sense that they made a inline 4 starter bike so it will get beginners custom to the inline 4 so when the jump of to 600 it’s not going to be as bad

It sounds awesome,,,,but I think so many features about the bike miss the mark quite a lot. I dont need freaking TC on a 80hp bike. The chassis can be more lightweight, and better. The suspension is...non-adjustable. As you said, I dont know how this fits into my life. Having a bike be inside a racing class is a huge bonus because there are so much more parts floating around. I would rather get the zx6r tbh. I love how Kawasaki is experimenting, but I cant get behind this one.

I’ve bought and ridden many bikes that cost less than the wireless charging phone mount setup from your sponsor. It’s sad because it’s very basic tech and production costs Pennies, but these companies are all out to steal everything they can from bikers. Charging setup base price $350+ for something that cost rock mount $1.25. Been using my $19.95 Chinese Amazon version for three years now on my grom and the only downside is having to wrap a hair tie around the phone to make sure it doesn’t fly off. But rock form insists their same thing is worth another $350 and up.

It's a $6,000 max and even then, it's for rich people who want a starter bike. My first bike was an '83 Kawasaki GPZ 305 and I extracted every horse I could out of that thing, but I got it for $300 practically new from a friend of a friend who was upgrading after 300 miles on the odometer back in '84. Manufacturers better stop acting like COVID is still in effect and people have more time & money than common sense. Nobody's going to pay 10 grand for something that's not even a 1/2 liter. I'll take a used ZX10r all day long and twice on Sunday for that.

For not much more and you can get a Tuono 660...but I'm biased. Honestly, I couldn't tell you why this small CC 400 appeals to me. I think it's because it's so unique and affordable 4 cylinders are kind of being killed off by 270-degree parallels that having one of these is pretty much a flex lol.
