I'm one of those guys who started out on a 600, specifically a 2006 ZX-6R. I grew up on a farm and had a lot of experience on various three and four wheeled ATV's and snowmobiling, but very little two wheeled experience. So, in a way, I already had some experience operating similar machines. I had no issues when learning to ride the ZX-6R. I found the power at low rpm to be completely manageable, and the bike was easy to handle at stops and slow speed turns. I'm also a person who is able to control my impulses and not do something stupid, partly because of my previous experience on the farm. So I find the idea of what a beginner bike should be is up to the individual. And I kept the ZX-6R, it's a machine I will never outgrow.

Everyone is talking about how the ZX4RR is priced high enough you might as well get a 600. Its important to remmember that if you dont live nect to race tracks, karting tracks only allow 400CC and below. It is meant to be a perfect mix between daily and track. I think it hits that spot very well. If you live within ~30 min of a kart track and more than 2 hours from a car track, this bike makes a lot of sense in those particular situations. ALSO 400CC looks great on insurance. A lot of insurances do not take on new PREVIOUSLY UNINSURED riders with bikes above 400CC in Cali. Just making some points to show how this bike does make a lot of sense in particular situations.

I started on an R3 and went to an R6. Due to it's weakness in the low RPM range the R6 would have actually been an OK starter bike for someone who isn't going to be tempted to speed. It won't wheelie itself or run away from you very easily. Much weaker at low RPM's than other 600's like the ZX6r. I suspect the zx4r is similar to the R6 in this regard. It will get you into trouble with speeding above your skill level, but that's a choice not an accident.

Just bought mine today! It’s getting shipped in tomorrow. They are getting harder to find due to limited supply, but I’m glad I found one. Not gonna lie I am a little scared, but I can’t wait to grow into it. You’re not wrong about it. It’s an expensive first bike. Everyone’s telling me to just get the ZX6R, but I’m a beginner and know myself. I don’t want to get tossed on the side of the road. Plus, after getting comfortable, I can tune it and I get a Baby ZX6 😅 And because it’s a 400cc, my insurance rate was phenomenal! Only 360$ for the entire year I’m very new to the bike community, a squid very very much so, but have intensively looked at your videos, other videos, practiced on a z125 for a day just to get a feel for it, and well, excited to be a part of the community. I think it's between beginner and intermediate. Beginner because it is not torquey and aggressive that's why beginners can easily have a grasp and control over the bike. But as you rev it and unlock its full potential, this is where intermediate riders comes in. Intermediate to advanced riders can really appreciate the sensations that the bike can give on the streets. And it has a more useable torque and power that intermediates will appreciate if they were not able to scream their 600s on the street.

Heads up, ZX4RR was $300 a month full coverage for me. To also give context, I'm over 25 and clean record with over 10 years on biked. Ducati streetfoghter V4 was $226 full coverage, triumph speed triple 1200 RS only $89 full coverage, and by the way coverage cost isn't really on me as liability only for a $30,000 ducati was only $225 a year so most of the cost they said was just based on the bike and they wanted $300 a month for the ZX4RR. Absolutely outrageous for a 53hp motorcycle. Insurance is gonna kill this bikes target market. Outrageous that a 208hp full fledged super bike was $226 a month with a bike replacment cost of almost 30k but the 11k 53hp ninja is $300 a month.
@derekwright5722
@derekwright5722 Жыл бұрын
That's insane. I pay like 30/month for full coverage for my ninja 400 and this isn't that much more power. I assume eventually it'll moderate when they realize it shouldn't be priced so high but until then, yikes. Nobody will want to pay that.

Change your insurance brother. I am 26 and have geico. Im paying 68 a month for full coverage on my 2021 scout bobber and 2022 aprilia rs660. Both for 68$ and i have totaled my r6 last year. Paid 10.5k when i bought my 2017 r6 but geico offered me 16k flat when i totaled it.
@DDRDK
@DDRDK Жыл бұрын
@Crusoe Art it's got nothing to do with insurnace provider, I've gotten quotes from 6 different companies, geico included. Geico wanted $8,000 a year for the ducati so I laughed and never bothered checking any other bikes with them. I have a clean record beyond well beyond even the 3-5 year record insurance looks at. Biggest issue after that is simply where you live, what the bikes worth, and what rap sheet the bikes typically have. They literally told me my rate is about as cheap as it gets for where I live and my age. Issue is the bike, location, and what the bikes typically have issues. For instance, I can get a triumph speed triple 1200RS which is literally in the same class as the ducati V4 street fighter but one is 226$ a month full coverage and the other is $89. Reason she told me was simply triumph owners in the area typically don't get into accidents or get tickets. So I said well I don't have any tickets so that doesn't make sense she said well it's about what the people who buy those particular bikes do and we calculate the risk partially off of that not just my own clean record. I can get a triumph thruxton RS which is worth about as much as thr speed triple and ducati if you look at the lower spec V4 ducati and she said simply that people who buy Cafe racer classed bikes just don't typically get into trouble. This is also proven by the fact that both the ZX4RR and the 30k$ ducati where only $300+- 50$ a YEAR for just liability, so that means in their eyes I'm not the Liability and simply they have bad experience with certain bikes in my area like them getting stolen etc. It all plays a part but they said I wasn't the issue. So triumph it is lmao.

And also for the people that say that for this price you might as well just get a ZX6R since it costs 1000$ more: Other than all the other reasons why you might not want the ZX6R as a beginner, here where I live the ZX4RR costs around 10k whilst the ZX6R costs around 13k, so for us the difference is 3000€, which is not that small.

I went from a ninja 250 to a 636 wasn't that bad but I had the 250 for like 4 years before I could afford a bigger bike . But the way I rode it then vs now is definitely day and night you just need to take the time to get experience riding and learning your bike. Now in the future when you can these zx4 used that could possibly be a decent upgrade from a smaller bike if not a zx6r

It's fantastic that Kawasaki made this singing little 4-cyl. The power and the sound is perfect. I don't even mind the "walkaround" of the ridiculous noise/emissions policies by limiting throttle @ higher rpm. It's just such a shame that they used the cheapest and heaviest frame and swingarm. With this price the bike should have 15kg lighter alu set. It would transform the machine. This is probably caused by total lack of competition in this niche. They can put this gem of an engine in the crappiest frame lying aroud and still charge 12k in total for it.

I mean maybe the SE or the regular R versions are better for beginners(or the Zx25R if it's sold in your country). Less stuff to adjust(which a beginner might not even bother tweaking), still screamers, fun and will be a lot cheaper. But I agree with Yammie in that if you have some sort of experience and you want something to keep for a long time then the 4RR might be it.

In my country Indonesia, this motorbike has a "younger brother" which is zx25r. In my opinion, the zx25r is more manageable for beginners like me. However, I don't know whether if this bike was in America it would be able to keep up with the speed limit there or not. Because the maximum speed of the zx25r is only around 180km/h or 111mp/h. But these bikes (zx25 or zx4) are really fun to ride. Oh yeah i forgot. Zx25 can rev to 18.5k rpm

Kawasaki priced it in a strange position, apparently its $9700, which is $700 more than an r7, which weighs the same, plus has more hp and torque, it also has fully adjustable forks, you could get about the same hp from the zx4rr but that requires a pipe and an ecu flash, which would probably set you back about $600 for the pipe and roughly $400 for an ecu flash, which brings the price up to $10700, which makes it $1700 more expensive than the r7, so why would I buy it over an r7? plus for another $800 you could get an aprilia rs600, which is 5kg lighter and has 100hp.

the r7 is one of the worst bikes to get. It has no soul no sound just like a 125cc. Its fun around the track but has bad seating for the streets. The bad seating would be okay if you would get speed and sound coming with it.

@@omargholam2514 I've never ridden an r7, but I have ridden a t7, I think most modern bikes have no soul, they're just too refined these days, the r7 does sound good with an aftermarket exhaust though, and the whole seating position is exactly what I would expect on a sports bike.

Adding upgrades over time....tail tidy, Rizoma mirrors, flash ecu, exhaust, air filter/Venturi tubes, grips and bar-ends, you mentioned the brakes weren't radial pull so maybe they'll be an upgrade for that to a more traditional master cylinder along with handle bar levers. This bike is so good and would just get better over time so it should last years not that regular few months where you grow out of it.

To all the beginner riders. You need to graduate from the beginner rider class and move on to amateur. The reason you buy this bike is not because you're a beginner. You buy it because you wanna have fun. I have a ton of fun riding my R3, and a ton of fun on my MT09. The R3 is light and slow and fun. The MT09 is aggressive, heavy and also loads of fun. This ZX4R will be light but heavier than the R3, fast but slower than most supersport bikes, and loud but quieter than sports bikes and easy to ride, but not as easy to ride as an R3. So if you ttok the best bits from an R6 and made it worse and the best bits of the R3 and made them worse, you get the zx4r

tbh i dont know why people are stuck on the idea that this is a beginner bike. The beginner bike is the ninja 400. This bike was made for asian markets, where there is a huge cost of ownership on large displacement bikes, but a 400 cc is financially managable and you still get the inline 4 feeling and sound. And for those who want to get into track riding. The suspension and everything is higher spec than the ninja 400 so you get a bike which you can track straight out of the dealership. If you want a begginer or every day bike get the Ninja 400, if you want a track bike or live in aforementioned regions, get the zx4rr. The US and Europe are miniscule markets compared to Asia and South America. Kawasaki made the bike so may as well just bring it to the US as well. If they sell some, profit, if not, well who cares, they make it up in different markets. Same deal with the zx25r
@chrisgermann6658
@chrisgermann6658 Жыл бұрын
I would say this is more of a "track" focused machine hence the price tag. If you want small displacement but something out of the box to rip around the circuit on this is the answer. For a "true" decent first bike just opt for the regular 400 with twin cylinders, the insurance will be cheaper and it can still be tricked out with nice parts.
