Hi Ken, pausing at 9 minutes, it is quite simple to set up an irrigation system for your beautiful grape orchard. Living in Nevada everything is irrigated if you want lawn, side gardens, etc. Run small tube, and only add spout attachments to each plant.ok editing after watching rest of video about drought tolerance. But then again with the years of no rain, it would not hurt to add a bit of moisture to stop raisins! Also it takes a few years to show the immediate slow death of trees.

Good morning! For me, perfect summer days are without excessive temperatures...it becomes uncomfortable and dangerous. A little rain given the drought situation and the scourge of fires was a blessing. It's interesting to think of a "drought" when the water table is just 25ft deep. Occasionally we hear about wells drying up here in Norther California and many wells are 200ft deep or more. Consider an evaporative cooler for when the humidity is below 50%. It's upper 80's outside right now and inside the house it's 70. As long as the humidity isn't too high, they work very well, plus it only pulls 200-300w depending on the setting, way less than an A/C. Ours is a Bonaire 5900.

@9:23 I dont agree with you. Because trees are stressed during such heat wave, if you dont do (irrigate) so you will end up attracting wood borers and other pests that will destroy all trees. Also you wont enjoy any fruit crops. With regards to superficial roots and watering I dont think watering once every 15 days will make trees develop superficial roots. What we do here in Malta where we have the same climate as Portugal we water them once every 15days in June and July that would be enough and for certain trees only 1 or twice during summer deep watering . I agree with you in terms of tillage even tho I have mixed toughts. Tilling will eliminate fire issue, will encourage trees to root down but most important it will preserve water from evaporating (as no till soil will crack and will become dry like a stone which is even worst..)

You might find some value in this video of how one U.S. farmer won his war on flies: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnere32FmbStgZo The flies haven't been too bad here this year in my part of coastal Texas. I think the heat wave suppressed them along with the mosquitos.

Interesting. I was wondering why you are not attempting to keep water on the land during rainy months (creating ponds etc). I think this is necessary because of climate change.

Because we already have two huge spring fed wells and a big dam. This is the hottest recorded temperatures in 70 years. We wanted to see how much water we would have left after summer on the hottest year and if its worth getting more storage. So far so good and we have lots of water left. Our spring fed storage is much better than old rainwater sitting going bad during the hot summer.

Gena, lovely to see you, but I am a little worried about your black eyes.

Is that solar panels on your roof? Or skylights? If solar, I'd like to check out your system, if ok. I have solar on my sailboat.

Hi Melinda, its a solar water heating system. The panels are heat exchangers that use sun to heat water We have a small solar system in our Motorhome. I'd love to get a big one for the house but they are very expensive!
