We finally both decided on a name for our new Rooster and decided to call him "Rui" (Rui Rooster). Rui is a traditional Portuguese name meaning "Famous Ruler" and we think he will grow into his name well 🐓
We revisited the infamous Well that our Serra da Estrela puppy Edmundo got rescued from 🐕 Seeing it in the daytime is a whole different thing!
We also repainted our house and give you guys a peek. Unfortunately, we got the colour totally wrong so we will need to do it all over again! 🌞

I would say the colour you need is more terracotta than yellow 💕

By Ocre powder to mix with white paint, then add till you get the terracota colour ayou like. But if I was you I would go for the traditional Portuguese blue like the one on the tank steps. All the best.

We've been using Tractive on our dogs for a couple of years now and really like it! One of our dogs is deaf, in the rare event he wanders away he won't hear us calling and I really appreciate the piece of mind of being able to quickly locate him.

only saw this comment now... it can get pretty cold but we haven't seen snow yet. It has happened in the past though. We will find frost on the ground in the early mornings, and it can go down to zero Celsius overnight.

HI, Ken and Gina. In fact, the name Rui is a diminutive of the name Rodrigo, of Germanic origin: Hrodric (Old Germanic) > Rodericus (Latin) > Rodrigo (Portuguese) and means famous prince/ruler (hruot + rik = fame + prince).

Anyone know where you can buy yellow "outdoor" wall paint in Central Portugal? They only seem to sell white or grey outdoor paint. The only coloured paint is for indoors. They do offer a paint mixing service at the different hardware stores, but you have to use their white paint base and it costs around 140 euros for just the white paint, not the dyes!

You should be able to find that at Leroy Merlin, Bricomarche or even at an Agriloja if there are any near you. From a quick look on the websites at least the first two should have it.

The ocre ( ochre) is the color that you want....check with Le roy M if they have it in stock.....because the paint exists but sometimes they do not have stock of it

Based on the old color it doesn't seem like you're looking for a yellow to do the base of the house? It was more of a burnt sienna color - an earth pigment? Yellow has more green in it.

How odd. In Australia you buy whatever paint you want in the base colour (Usually white unless you want to mix a very dark Colour). Then they will tint it any colour you want for free & they don't care what brand paint. Basically they say it all evens out in the end & the Manufacturers don't seem to mind. Mind you we have the massive Australian Owned Bunnings Warehouse Company & they have a lot of power over their suppliers. Also I actually prefer that Yellow you did it in.

Highest quality paints, in the states, can range from 70 to 100 dollars per gallon. Five gallon pails are usually a bit cheaper per gallon. Tinting and color matching are included in the cost of the paint. The big box stores all sell paints and supplies but we also have smaller dedicated paint stores. The folks in the trades often prefer the dedicated dealers. They tend to know more about the grades of paint and the prep work required to get a long lasting finish. I don't know if it's true in Portugal but we have seasonal sales. Paint prices drop 20 to 30 percent during those sales. My hatred of painting has given me some incites. Expensive paints often cover better, last longer and cause me less aggravation. BTW, I'm no fan of yellow...but...it does look kinda nice on your place. Thanks again and good luck.

Hi. You can buy white paint and add dye ink (corante) . Maybe to create the right yellow you need 2 different dye ink. Dye ink is cheaper and you can mix in the house and near the old paint to compare. Adding small droops of dye ink to the white paint and mix together, you will see the color appear and compare to the old paint or to get the tone that you want. Maxmat and other´s have this in small bottle´s (250ml) to add to white normal paint for exterior use. If you do this,make sure to make a lot cause if you make 2 different batch or mixes,the end result maybe different between mixes. If possible you can weight or measure the dye ink that you use in the previous mix to make another batch.But is always better to do in one mix.The color will be perfect.

Hi Pedro, yes we bought 4 bottles of this dye from Maxmat and it gave us a very pale yellow colour you see on the wall now.

@@OKportugal Try add orange and red dye ink. Try in a small (1 litre) batch to see the result. I make grey color for my house whit black dye ink. Never try yellow but in the web they recommend red and orange dye ink.

No caso da tinta, eu não acredito que seja assim tão difícil arranjar tinta dessa cor ou pigmento para adicionar à tinta branca. Os técnicos de tinta têm um aparelho que lê a cor da tinta e depois é mais fácil arranja-la. Experimentem contactar a robbialac ou a Cin, ou outra marca qualquer no mercado, ou até a Leroy Merlin e certamente arranjarão tinta parecida. Um abraço
