Happy summer time! I hate this mix I wanna strangle it. Honestly it might be kind of bad. I was having trouble getting the volume right and balanced… And I think after you listen to it too much you start going “it’s too loud turns it down no it’s too soft never mind turns it up no it’s too loud *turns it d-“. So I’m kind of :/ about my mixing this time around. But I’ve already spent a lot of time with the mix and I’m starting to get an earache. So I figure it’s time to just post it and deal with it not being perfect mix wise. …TBH I only recently started taking mixing more seriously… I never had in the past because I figured even if my mixes were bad my vocals would show off enough to put that aside LOL
Anyway. Isn’t this such a happy song? Haha. God I LOVE this song. One of my favorite instrumentals ever created for a Vocaloid song. MikitoP does an amazing job at really transporting you right into the feeling of summer. I can’t think of any other Vocaloid songs that use steel drums and now I kinda wanna find more. Also it makes me wanna go to the beach! …If I ignore the lyrics.
Apparently this song was loosely inspired by the 1994 Japanese drama “Ningen Shikkaku”. Though instead of girls it’s a pair of men, where one of the boys who has a secret crush on the other but also complex feelings towards him, engages in/allows the bullying to happen towards him.
For the record the beginning section of the original is ambiguous as to who is saying it… Which kinda sounds weird in English so I wound up using “I” anyway. Since it’s my personal interpretation of the song with clues such as “if we’re able to love each other in the transparent world, then…” etc. lyrics that the singer followed her lost love into death and jumped in front of the train as well. …Only to find the girl she loved, now a ghost, knows the truth of her death.
If that’s not what you think, then just assume it’s a POV switch… From the girl who died at the beginning to the singer after.
Let’s go. This was technically my July upload so late August upload too LET’S GOOOOO (Hopefully. I have a song in mind but given how much of a perfectionist I am at everything IDK if I can do it. But I hope to see you then if I do!)

David thank you as always for listening to my covers and especially for this 😭 TBH singing this song was mainly hard on the technical front for me. Powerful belting didn’t seem right but also I wasn’t sure if I could be as memorable if I head-voiced it either… So I did do a LOT of retakes and tried to get that breathy indie singer sound for this song. I’m glad you liked how it turned out bc it means my agonizing over this song stylistically was worth it! 😭

I'm not sure if someone has already mentioned this in the comment section, but the line "But today, your desk has a flower that would mean you're the bullies' prey, and all because of me" is referring to that the girl has died or is being told to kill herself, because in Japan leaving a flower on someone's desk means that person has passed away, but if you leave a flower on a living persons desk it is basically telling them to go die or kill themselves, for those who didn't know. I think this song is about the girl's friend being bullied to the point of killing herself and the girl feels terrible about it watching it happen and not doing anything to stop it, and/or feeling guilty for not being there for her and trying to stop her (maybe didn't realise she was going to kill herself). So now the girl wants to kill herself out of that guilt or because she really loved that girl since they are really close and can't live with the fact that someone that close has died. I apologise if the interpretation is wrong but just wanted to give my thoughts on it, thanks for reading :>

In this translation, the dead girl’s friend’s actions can be interpreted more kindly, as the translation shifts more blame onto the bullies by making the girl’s actions more vague. “I made you the bullies prey” could be interpreted as catching their attention accidentally. The girl sounds so distraught throughout the song missing her friend that it makes sense to interpret her actions favorably. If she is so upset why would she do something to hurt her friend on purpose? But, In the original the lyrics do strongly suggest that the friend actively encouraged the bullying in order to keep her friends attention for herself. The lyrics say something like “In September my true colors were revealed” “the person who left the flower vase on your desk was me” then the singer begins to blame the dead girl for that, because she should only pay attention to her friend. Then she tells the friend she’ll save her so it’s ok she’s being hurt. This is obviously unhealthy, shown in the next line that goes something like “I placed a soft kiss onto your hand as you were drowning” which really highlights how childish the girls plan was. Kisses don’t help when someone is drowning, no matter how gently or lovingly you pushed them in. Instead of getting what she wanted, the girls friend is distressed by the bullying to the point she jumps in front of a train… I interpret it as the story of a girl with overwhelmingly strong feelings for a friend, to the point she tried to manipulate her into becoming dependent on her. She only regrets her actions when she loses her friend, and is so grief stricken she longs to die in order to follow her into the afterlife. It is a young selfish love that was only going to hurt and sadly ended in tragedy. I hope you don’t think I’m shitting on your comment, again I think your interpretation is well supported by this translation of the song. I just thought it was interesting how a few choices of words can change the meaning of a sentence. It really highlights how difficult translation could be, especially translyrics. I also wanted to share my own interpretation of the original as I’ve been obsessed with it for the past few days

Cause I definitely think the singer is misguided but highly manipulative. She definitely regrets her actions but they were still really. Childish as you said. I translated it as “you look away, I won’t let it go” bc it had more flow to it but the original 僕だけを見ててよ (look ONLY at me) is very childish, along with the whole そう君が悪いんだよ (yeah that’s right, it’s all YOUR fault. I love this line for how it sounds like she’s really trying to convince herself she’s done nothing wrong.) My personal interpretation of the song is that the girl didn't directly bully her friend but did do things like leave the flower on her desk, and the sort of mob mentality took over the whole class. Like... She didn't need to do anything else after that happened, because the classmates saw who the next person to pick on was and they all went along with it regardless, if that makes sense. She also might have directly contributed to the bullying but the finger-pointing at the end symbolizing the Ghost Girl knew who caused her death makes me think that when she was alive, the other girl was playing nice to her... "Let me make it better now, let me save you from the hate I secretly caused." She was the cause of everything her friend went through but she played the loyal shoulder she could cry on as the bullying happened. To me it gives the finger-pointing at the end line a sort of shocking meaning, especially if you think the singer tried to die as well (my take) and join her lost love in the afterlife- like maybe she failed in her attempt and saw a ghost that said “hey I know what you did to me now” or she got there and realized she wasn’t forgiven. IDK going further in my interpretation of the song is that both of the girls, originally, were outcasts/loners of sorts who came together. And the singer was convinced if that her friend would abandon her for other people and acted rashly when she saw her making new friends as a result. 2人きりこのまま愛し合えるさ - when the two of us are alone together like this, that’s how we’re able to love one another). Kissing her drowning hand. I had fun translating that line because my intention with it was "I was placing kisses on your hand you waved above as you drowned, but clearly I didn't kiss them enough because you died anyway", if that makes sense. It was different from the original which is “as you drown I softly place a kiss on your hand”, so I did kinda add my own meaning here… But hopefully it wasn’t too out of line with anything the song was saying anyway. I wanted to have a lyric that rhymed subtly with “above” so it won out for me LOL Anyway I'm just putting my two cents in! Both comments very interesting and fun to read (in a sad kind of fun way bc this song huuuuuurts). Sorry for the essay I just really love talking about this song LOL

Thought it would be cool to give my own interpretation of the song! -There are two girls who are dating but have to keep their relationship hidden until they graduate -in some way their secret gets out and both start getting bullied by it (the ghost girl in particular) -the two girls don’t know how to stop the bullying without further worsening their relationship and end up falling out and decide to break up to stop the hate -this unfortunately makes it worse and the ghost girl ends up getting bullied even more, the vase of flowers on her desk, the nails, and drowning (a symbolism of depression) evident of this fact -the ghost girl feels bad that this all happens and decides to talk with her ex, thinking the best way for them to be together is to stand on the train tracks, the other girl is wary of the ex’s choice, deciding it wasn’t a good idea but instead promising to be by her side no matter what. -the next day or so the girl heads to class after summer break and finds out that her ex decided to actually go onto the train tracks, a vase of flowers now mourning her death. -the girl is overcome by grief and succumb into a deep depression, a few weeks later deciding to go onto the train tracks and reunite with the girl she loved so dearly.

noo i had a dear friend, and i loved her a lot but i didnt know that i loved her until later. in 7-8th grade summer we spent a lot of time together and the song was just like that.. she was bullied in school and struggled a lot with depression and anxiety, but i could barely do anything because we had no shared classes and she wouldnt tell me who the bullies were cause she was scared for my sake. she struggled so much and barely told me any of it, even though i was obsessed with protecting her. i was so worried that she might end her life but i was so overwhelmed and desperate that i barely did anything except try to stay with her as often as possible. in that summer all i wanted was to be friends with her forever and always protect her, but then something happened and my parents made me stop being friends with her. i realized later that i had really loved her and i struggled for a long time because we couldnt be friends anymore. thankfully she is still here, but realized they're actually trans and a fair bit different from when we were best friends. i forgot how much i missed them. the cover is super beautiful and amazing!!

I lost someone a few years ago. About a week before he disappeared, he confessed to me and I turned him down. He was clearly suffering and I never reached out to him. The guilt of it never goes away, no matter how much therapy or medication I try. The memories of him are so vivid they still feel like they happened yesterday. Even now, it's like my mind just can't keep up with reality, it keeps telling me he's not really gone and I'll see him again at some point, even though it's been years. i want you to know that you shouldn’t need to blame yourself. Whether it’s because you feel bad that you regeted them or that you feel like you need to apologize for your actions, you truly don’t. A romantic relationship wasnt going to immediately fix everything that was happening to him. you want to rewrite the past and try to save him, and maybe you could’ve - however, this is the present. life will always continue on, and it’s admirable for you to keep him in your mind’s eye, but you can’t dictate your life on someone else’s. all that we can hope for is that he is in a better place in the beyond, or at the very least he’s laid to a peaceful rest. coping is awful, i’ve recently lost someone close to me and it’s so difficult to think that i’ll never be able to hug her either, but we have to move on. they would want us to move on. i hope you all the best, antexe.

ive got a thought on the song’s meaning, and that its two different thoughts - the first half being the girl who died, the second being the one who lived, but wished she didnt so she could be with her. She wished they could be together because the depression is “drowning” her to a point where she wants to die, so she’s trying to reach out to reach her beloved friend, and be with her.

This song makes me question my life. It feels so happy and there's like no indication that somethings wrong other then the train sounds and that sound at the end, along with the giggle, but the lyrics are dark as it can get. It sounds like a song about a lost romance due to suicide (that's already a knife twister) but it has hints of "I drove you into suicide and now I'm sad about it but also not really" and it makes me question everything also kikou's hole dwelling uses steel drums but I'm not sure that counts as kikous kinda his own thing

Idk abt everyone, but heres how it works on my head -a girl has a crush on the other girl (ghost girl) but does not know how to confess, so she talked her way to someone or some ppl and those ppl bullied and harassed her (s3xually+mentally) so that she could be the only one that she (ghost girl) could trust -the plan didnt work out well, but the ghost girl knew it was her who did those. She invites her to the railroad tracks and confesses the fact that she knew it was her making her life Miserable -the other got depressed because she didnt know what to do when she saw her the ghost girl die so she jumped off the railroad tracks

this comment contains topics of suicide and mental illness i know this is probably tmi but i recently just found of 6 years tried to take his life yesterday. he's in the hospital and his condition is stable but i can't help but feel that it's my fault. we were both really big project sekai fans and this was one of our favorite songs. it's lyrics are like a parallel to our situation now and listening to this just brings me so much pain an comfort. i know i really didn't need to share this but i don't my therapist until next week and i just don't know what to do with myself.

If you read the actual lyrics backwards in a way without the chorus it tells a story that is advancing, basically, girl A (the one singing) bullied their friend girl B into commiting suicide, girl A wanted to be girl B's only friend and she thought the best way was to bully her so girl B would only turn to her, but, girl B commited suicide and girl A presumbly joins her at the end *the train tracks and static implys girl A commited suicide too*
