I have been meaning to sing a song from MI8K for a while. His stuff is criminally underrated and I’d love to cover even more… His songs are pretty high on my “sing it NEXT” list. I thought I’d start here.
avogado6’s PV is of course amazing. Very intense and I had to look away sometimes when I first watched it since I was like “oh my god that must hurt OW OW oh I can’t look” but beautiful nonetheless.
I wanted to talk about what this song meant to me but I think it’s sort of hard to describe it like a narrator so here’s something I wrote about what I think the singer might say (mixed with my own emotions):
“I want to advance. No matter what. I’m tired of being left behind. I want to be like you, who are so cruel but so beautiful. I don’t care what it takes anymore.”
…It feels thematically similar to Love & Destroy with Fallen Hero vibes… Though Love & Destroy can also be more interpreted as somebody being forced into the hero when they just want to be a little evil. Either way it’s a very cynical song full of anger and sadness and I love it a lot.
I’m really glad ‘across’ sounds like ‘a cross’ too. I so lucked out with English double meanings this time around.

It reminds me of Osamu Dazai's "No Longer Human", the more literal translation being "Disqualified from Being Human". Funnily, I feel like this is a merging of "No Longer Human" and Franz Kafka's "Metamorphosis", except the singer is turning into a sloth instead of a bug. Although I can relate to this song. I lost all of the confidence I had... And now I'm absurdly sloth-like, needing to sleep immense hours and needing to spend an hour to even get out of bed...

@@dawn9546 I heard about "No Longer Human" from Oktavia's cover of "Melancholy of the Literary Boy/Depression of the Young Literati", where it's implied that the young boy's favorite author was Osamu Dazai. I knew about the literal translation as well prior to Wendigoon's video. I just never fully read the book because it was too gripping for me. Wendigoon's video made it a lot more digestible.

This is…Surreal and violently beautiful. Fantastic job! As far as the song goes, it screams this desperate need to be like someone else because the singer considers themselves “empty”. And they’ll do *anything* to be like that someone. As far as the AV goes…I think the monsters and ESPECIALLY the sloth represent what the faceless person wants to be. That’s why they gave up their heart (turning them into a shell) and allow themselves to be mutilated by these scientists. But it doesn’t matter how often they alter themselves, they won’t be like the sloth. This is represented by the multiple crucified monkeys. So by the end, they decide to take it all by force and *literally* become the sloth, at least on the outside. But they’re still empty because they are only left with someone else’s skin, not their heart. My interpretation of course. Sorry for the long comment, I just adore horrific Vocaloid AVs 😉

I think the Scientists putting the Sloth leg on the singer's is meant to represent how they're trying to change themselves to be like the Sloth and when that wasn't enough, he took his skin to try and become him.

I've really grown to love this song. One thing I've noticed after several listens is this little tinging from a xylophone or music box sound that plays when she goes into the more intense parts of the singing. Almost like there is this some amount of innocence attached to actions or even some form of reluctance or sadness despite how angry the lyrics are.

Recently I've been going through some crap and I don't know what it is but this song hits hard. I can't stop listening to it last few weeks I've listened to it multiple times everyday. I find a sort of comfort in it I find a reason in the way it makes me feel Music in general is very important thing to me. Without music I barely feel. I feel like the song has a meaning of trying to be a happy person in the world. After so long you see how much goes on in the world. Good people being taken advantage of or how people in power choose luxury over life. You can't just close your eyes to it, or fight against it because in some ways it makes your life easier. Maybe you have been taken advantage of already. In the end you mentally let go of your innocent ideas and try to survive in the world we live in, even if it means you have to pretend to be a different person ultimately loosing *yourself* in the end.

I guess i never commented lol but I rlly want to. I remember seeing this video many many years ago, it put me onto the visual artist Avogado in the first place. It's so dark and gruesome and i love the angry cursing you use in some of these lines. There's alot of power in these vocals and I can tell you can probably relate to this one in the same ways as me.
