Okuma Record Chaser Review and First Impressions

Okuma's newest catfish/gar/sturgeon rod. I go over it's features and what I think about it. Also a quick action sequence catching a cat with it.

I bought a battle cat and then a record chaser back in may. Couldn't find much info on the chaser at the time but it's easily my favorite rod so far. I also have the Coronado cdx on it but the 55 size. I own 2 avenger afb "b" series reels as well and they are not near the quality of the Coronado..

Great setup. I was wondering the lb braid and how many yards? I'm currently fishing an okuma thundercat with CDX reel. Looking at picking up the record chaser.

Thanks. I use Sufix 832 80lb. I use mono backing as filler and 150yrd braid.

Home Depot has zip ties with a little hole on the bottom that work perfectly for hook keepers

I have had the insert from the second guide come out two times now. Had to pay the first time for Warranty, second time okuma made good on it. Have you had any issues?

Are the orange stripes on the tip painted on after the fact, or are they under the clearcoat so they're protected?

I guess I'm not sure. I think under the clear coat because they have not faded or chipped yet.

How's the okuma holding up? Light and strong is what sold me. Remember the old, heavier fiberglass rods back in the day? Lol.

I have moved on to Madkatz, but the Okuma were great rods. No real complaints
