I drive school busses here in Florida and this man did no wrong he did everything right to prevent a life ending tragedy. You can fix bent metal and replace busted glass but you can never replace the smile of an innocent little child. The fog and his load were the only factors involved and he was doing it right. Honorable man and the hand of God helped him through it as well.

Exactly what I tried to explain to people when they complained about that guys sentence in the Colorado wreck and made him the victim. Nobody mentioned the run away ramps he passed, or the fact he could of ditched it before he ruined innocent lives.

Horrible title on this video. Most people would see that "Ola man sacrifices himself" means that he died trying to save those kids. But he was barely hurt. That reporter (and the person who uploads your videos) needs to learn how to report better. Do better without deceiving the public.

Naw the bus had the stop arms out and kids crossing so he took the ditch from either rear ending the bus or trying to pass it with kids crossing

If he was really driving slow he would have been able to just stop. If ditching it was your only option to avoid hitting something you couldn't see through the fog you are going faster then the distance you can see where you can stop by.

You try driving an 18 wheeler, with 80,000lbs of logs on the back. See if you are able to stop in time. It’s just like a mini train. The truck would have been able to stop, about a 1/4 mile after he hit the bus. It’s one thing to keep a distance from the vehicle your following behind, and even go slow in the fog. However, if the bus had crossed to block the oncoming lane, no driver would have been able to see that until the body of the bus came into view. Most cars would have been able to stop on time, with the assistance of slamming the antilock brakes. An 18-wheeler would not. This is why blocking the road with the bus, to stop people passing, is not a good idea. An 18-wheeler, depending on conditions, might not be able to stop. If the driver didn’t do what this guy did in the story, the results could have been, catastrophically devastating.

You can’t go too slow, otherwise people with nuts for brains will try and illegally pass you, creating an even more dangerous situation. So I’d say the truck would have been going at least 20 under.
