Excellent work thanks for the inspiration! I am willing to start into modular world but maybe should go semi modular first (Dfam +M32? Dark energy)? Which drum machine (Jomox? Tanz)? Sequencer and sampler? This has to sound hard tek old school (Spiral/Cirkus Alien) and then I would add eurorack modules step by step. Any advice welcome!
@OLANGALACTICA4 жыл бұрын
hi, it really depends on what you‘re comfortable with. but a semi modular synth combined with a drum machine is certainly a good idea. i‘d go for a 909 clone if i were you! cheers

Great set! How much of the sounds/melodic patterns are created on the fly? Do you take snapshots of the Turing machines and marbles melodies that you like before you start? What about the drum patterns? I presume you have some preprogrammed kick/hat patterns in the DrumSeq?
@OLANGALACTICA4 жыл бұрын
thanks! almost all the melodic patterns are created on the fly with the turing machines and marbles. due to the properties of the noise engineering sequencer, i sometimes reuse the 4 sequences i programmed there though, since i usually forget to save the state of the module before powering down. with marbles and the turing machines i start blank. most drum patterns are also from pattern- or random sequencers (turing machines etc). on the erica drum sequencer i have preprogrammed patterns for kick, hihat, chord stabs, erica pico sampler, rings and i can change them the common way by reprogramming or using the random step function on the fly
@tomburnell76744 жыл бұрын
@@OLANGALACTICA Do you use the trigger out from the marbles for melodic sequencing too? I don't find it to be that musical. Do you drive it from a regular clock or another sequencer? Which voices do you find work best for improv? It would seem that wide sweet-spot and simple control is best. I've been using Rings and BIA but find both a bit samey after a while. Got a modulargrid link?
@OLANGALACTICA4 жыл бұрын
i use the erica drum seq as master clock. yes, i‘ve used the marble triggers. however, i‘ve ditched the marbles now and will be using another sequencer for my bass lines on the next video. i like all kinds of sequencers and voices that are hands-on. i hate menudiving when improvising and the only modules where i scroll through the menu from time to time to use different sounds are plonk and braids. also, although make noise make great modules sound-wise, i only use the ones i absolutely need. because their interfaces feel counter-intuitive to me. here‘s the modulargrid. it‘s a bit dated. it‘s the setup of video #12. www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/command_center/49480

thanks mate! it‘s two synthrotek/mst mixers! i have 8 different voices on there and thanks to these modules i can mute them with a flick of a switch

Man I'm listening to this for the second time and it blows me away. Great job man! I am trying to build a similar modular setup (live performable) but I'm having a hard time getting variation to keep it interesting without it sounding like too whacky. i think it has to do with modulation and sequencing. Do you have any tips about this? :)
@OLANGALACTICA4 жыл бұрын
hi, thanks! to keep my patches sounding ‚lively‘, i use the modulation outputs of my turing machines and tides to a certain degree. for example i sometimes modulate the ‚structure‘ input from Rings. But it really comes down to the mix. Having an analog mixer with cross-talking/cross-compression is great for keeping things moving. i use the WMD performance mixer.
@TheHoinoel4 жыл бұрын
@@OLANGALACTICA thank you for sharing your wisdom :) I'm using the befaco hexmix, which is working well so far. I realized that I can use my disting to do compression on my kick and bass. One part I am still struggling with is the melodic sequencing. Perhaps I should just bite the bullet and lean more music theory... anyways thank you for sharing. It inspired me to change some stuff in my system around :D
@josephwright51404 жыл бұрын
Seriously the best techno SET I've seen on a modular yet. Is that marbles upper right corner? How do you feel it lends itself to your performance and is this mostly improvised or carefully rehearsed?

thanks for the nice words! yep that‘s marbles! all my performances are fully improvised. nothing rehearsed in advance.

@OLANGALACTICA5 жыл бұрын
thx man! for cv sequences on this video i use: marbles, 2x turing machines, mimetic digitalis, modseq and sometimes the cv channel on erica drum seq. so it‘s coming from everywhere :)
@jasonbarile20145 жыл бұрын
@@OLANGALACTICA are you quantizing all those CV sources somewhere?
@OLANGALACTICA5 жыл бұрын
Jason Barile nope, no quantization at all. our ears are the only quantization we need when it‘s just melodies

yeah it‘s definitely the main drum sequencer and also the master clock

@OLANGALACTICA5 жыл бұрын
the chord comes from music thing modular chord organ through a erica pico vcf3. the weird delay sounds come from mutable instruments braids (ring mode) through an syntrotek/mst filter

@@OLANGALACTICA Thanks! Im too poor to buy those modules but good to know. (building my own eurorack - my channel)
@OLANGALACTICA5 жыл бұрын
ok. if you‘re interested in DIY you can build the Braids, Chord Organ and MST Filter yourself. i saved around 50% on diy modules. helped me a lot to get going because eurorack is so damn expensive and my pockets arent‘t very deep
