Found this in storage after 30 years. Concert was on the night of October 6, 1979, at Sevier County High School. Earlier the same day she attended the dedication of the Dolly Parton Parkway.
Her family was there, including her daddy and grandpa. Her daddy was working the t-shirt stand for something to do, but said "hush" to us when we spoke to him--he didn't want anyone to know who he was so he wouldn't get mobbed by people.
Recorded on a Panasonic industrial VHS camera and recorder.

I WAS THERE!! Such a great memory. I have seen Dolly in concert many times , but this was my favorite. She was so happy to come home a star...and all the East Tennessee area were so proud for her! There will never be another Dolly Parton.

If this was Saturday, October 6th, it was right before Dolly performed on that year’s Country Music Awards, which she would have done on the following Monday night (October 8, 1979). she must have been in the midst of filming “Nine to Five” at that time too, and presumably took a break from that to return to Tennessee to do the Country Music Awards in Nashville, and this concert in Sevier County, and then back to Hollywood to resume work on “Nine to Five”. It was a busy time for Dolly.

Loved this lady since I was a kid. There is none like her, you cant help to love this lady, she always puts me in a good mood. Regrets: Dixie Stampede in Orlando closed, I use to take my family there to get in the Christmas spirit, in 90 degree weather. My 94 yr old grandmother had never seen anything like it. Thanks Dolly. Other regrets: I've never met her.

Coming back to your high school to perform a concert after you've become a full blown superstar is the ultimate "Look at me now" success story and smack in the face to anyone who was mean to or doubted Dolly back in school! Go Dolly!!

What a weird thing to write, especially about Dolly who clearly would never be motivated by something like that.
@Texaslawhorn
@Texaslawhorn Жыл бұрын
@@ChazSmithProductions Dolly has said that classmates were mean growing up. Most of us dealt with people like that in school. If you think I meant Dolly was obnoxious about it then you're mistaken, but if you think enjoying being successful in the face of people who have put you down in the past is weird then you are the strange one in the minority.

I remember when "To Daddy" came out and of course I was a lot younger, and things seemed a lot simpler then and that song sort of broke my heart because not only did she leave "Daddy" but she left the children also. She thought they were old enough that they didn't need her anymore, but I am now in my 70's and I can tell you that I STILL need my momma. I haven't had her for over 40 years, but I still need her and miss her. When this song came out, I wondered why she didn't explain the way she was feeling to Daddy and MAYBE things would have been different. Like I said, I was a lot younger then.

whoever is the person who recorded this show should have sold it to the recording company to be put on dvd. this is a gem.
@NOVELBITES
@NOVELBITES 7 жыл бұрын
That is not how these things work. Each song would require an individual license so that all appropriate parties (writers, producers, etc.) would receive royalties, not to mention the unauthorized profit of Dolly's likeness. Dolly would have to buy the footage and release it herself. That is very unlikely.
@viking956
@viking956 4 жыл бұрын
@@NOVELBITES Nope. Those licenses and "likeness" etc. would only apply once the material was PUBLISHED by the recording company. An individual recording this could have sold his or her "rights" to it to a recording company.
@NOVELBITES
@NOVELBITES 4 жыл бұрын
@@viking956 Incorrect. You cannot sell someone else’s copyrighted material without permission and licensing. Each song is copyrighted and would require permission and licensing for a commercial release (unless the song is public domain).
@dannydougin3925
@dannydougin3925 4 жыл бұрын
Who cares about buying and selling and copyrights. If people can see it here that is good enough. Besides the quality is not good enough for DVD..... just enjoy the concert, before youtube takes it down! Sheesh!
@viking956
@viking956 4 жыл бұрын
@@NOVELBITES Normally you would be correct....except this was a free concert for anyone who wanted to attend. That pretty much puts this performance, not the songs themselves, in the "public domain". Accordingly, this specific performance is fair game so to speak when it comes to copying and distributing. Kinda of like if you take a photograph of Dolly walking down a sidewalk, she can't claim any ownership of that photo because she is in the public domain.

Watching this October 2024, so 45 years later, and I was just a kid back in 1979, but a country music fan for as long as I can remember thx to my grandparents. It's almost like they are here again with me even though they've been gone for years now. I'm now a Sevier county resident (not because of Dolly, but she's just a bonus), and I met a couple, a very young couple, on the square today that were Dolly fans all the way from Germany. She has touched so many. Thank you @OlBanjoPIcker for sharing this gem!

The lyrical genius that is Dolly Parton. The way she so effortlessly added a whole 2 completely different lines on the spot in Two Doors Down is so crazy. It's amazing how she can just let it flow out and it go together so well and it's.not even.part of the original song!
