My fave band of last 30 years.

This video is comparable to their early Austin City Limits set, but memorialized at a fraction of the price. One of the best channels in KZbin history.

Have listened to their music through the years but just happened to bee helping my daughter in Denver last weekend...on one of the many trips for car parts to Englewood, our last trip back home to her apartment, I noticed the OLD 97s name on the marquee at the Gothic Theatre. I yelled NO EFFING WAY! I told her we were going, got tickets, and we did not regret it! They still rock like this video... a full throttle hour and a half of great memories!!! And aTimeBomb encore of course.

Whiskeytown opened for them that same night. There is a YT video of Whiskeytown at that same show at the Hi- Point on April 5, 1997. Imagine being there to see that double bill!

Saw these guys at the 7th St. Entry in Minneapolis around this time on the No Depression tour with the Picketts, Freakwater and Whiskeytown, I’ll never forget that one!

Cracks me up seeing Rhett able to smoke a cigarette, sing, and play guitar all in the same song.

One day in 2003 or 2004 I was drinking at Sheffield’s in Chicago and randomly saw this band was playing at the Vic. That was one freaking amazing lucky day for me.

So young and full of energy!

It’s crazy to think that when Rhett is talking about the “new record”, and kinda apologizing about playing so many songs off it, he’s referring to the bonafide classic “Too Far To Care”.

Thanks for posting! I've felt the best of Old 97s live has been criminally under-represented on KZbin by videos that somehow miss the joy, abandon, and genius that their live shows consistently exhibit in person. This one captures it! They'd come to Lexington KY and play Lynaugh's pub every 6 months or so during this era, when about 300 of us would squeeze in the door, ignoring the fire marshal's posted limit, and two dozen at a time would claim the dance floor from the previous sweaty shift, who would have stayed longer had they larger bladders or greater stamina. Everyone got a workout at their shows, and this video comes closer that most I've seen to reproducing that band-crowd energy exchange.

How have there only been ~1000 views of this? This is definitely the best video of them on YT from the 90s. I was in Columbia MO at the time, so I missed this, but I saw them in CoMo in September '97 at the Blue Note and then that December at Mojo's, which is still my favorite Old 97s show out of 40+. Seeing them in St. Louis in two nights!

First saw them at about that time, at the 40 Watt Club in Athens GA. One of the best concerts I ever experienced. Seen them many times since, in Athens and Atlanta. The energy is definitely still there.

When Old 97's played Tipitina's in the spring of '05 it felt like a General Strike of New Orleans service workers.

I have two day tickets to see them in NYC in September 2004. I felt like I was late to discovery on a New Orleans jukebox in 2004. Saw them in 2005, and Rhett solo in 2009. Crazy that this vid is closer to both of those than today.
